Grateful First Fridays on Haight Street Feb. 6 – A Celebration of Bob Weir at O’Reilly’s in SF
The legendary sounds of the Grateful Dead are returning to the birthplace of psychedelic rock with the debut of Grateful First Fridays on Haight Street, a new monthly concert series launching at the historic O’Reilly’s Pub in San Francisco’s Haight-Ashbury district.
The series begins with a special one-time free kickoff on Friday, February 6, 2026, honoring the life and music of Bob Weir, who passed away on January 10, 2026. The evening, billed as A Celebration of Bob Weir, will feature live performances by San Francisco’s Playing The Dead with special guests Scott Guberman and Preston Barnes, plus Bay Area favorites Lovin’ Dead and David Gans & the Broken Angels, with additional surprise guests expected.
Designed as a monthly gathering point for Deadheads and live-music lovers alike, Grateful First Fridays will take place every first Friday of the month, with each installment built around rotating bands, guest musicians, and special appearances—offering a fresh, communal run through the Dead’s vast catalog and the many musical side-roads it continues to inspire.
“We’re building on the monthly shows that we started here at O’Reilly’s in late 2024, bringing in even more incredible musicians and bands to create a regular gathering place where the magic of the Dead—especially Bob Weir’s remarkable contributions—can be celebrated right here in the Haight,” says Jason Movrich, bandleader of Playing The Dead and owner of PTD Presents. “It’s about community, shared experience, and keeping the Dead’s music alive right here in San Francisco, where it all started.”
For a neighborhood that helped ignite a cultural revolution—and a band whose music has never stopped moving—this new series aims to bring the spirit of Haight-Ashbury back into the room: dancing, singing, and that familiar feeling that the next note might open a whole new door.
