Released in 1989, Indigo Girls’ self-titled major label debut sold more than two million copies behind the strength of “Closer to Fine” and “Kid Fears,” helping establish the Grammy-winning duo of Emily Saliers and Amy Ray as one of the most successful folk acts of their era. Across a remarkable career spanning more than three decades, the pair has released sixteen studio albums, sold over 15 million records, and cultivated one of the most loyal audiences in modern roots music.
“We joke about being old, but what is old when it comes to music? We’re still a bar band at heart,” says Saliers. “We are so inspired by younger artists and while our lyrics and writing approach may change, our passion for music feels the same as it did when we were 25-years-old.”
Their most recent studio album, Look Long, finds Indigo Girls reflecting on identity, history, and the passage of time with the same honesty and melodic grace that has long defined their songwriting. Produced by John Reynolds and recorded at Peter Gabriel’s Real World Studios outside Bath, England, the record continues the duo’s tradition of pairing personal storytelling with larger themes of justice, resilience, and hope.
Indigo Girls concerts remain legendary for their crowd-wide singalongs, where audiences often become part of the performance itself. That sense of shared spirit, activism, and community has always been central to the band’s enduring appeal.
When they arrive in Boulder this May, fans can expect a night of beloved classics, deep emotional connection, and the kind of communal joy that only a band with this kind of history can create.
