Justin Hiltner & Jon Weisberger’s third single for Mountain Home Music Company, “Nothing Between Us,” is a charming duet sung by Hiltner and acclaimed singer-songwriter and artist Sarah Siskind. Co-written by Hiltner and Weisberger with their longtime friend and GRAMMY Award-winner Molly Tuttle, it’s a bluegrass waltz with delectable country touches that kicks off with lush twin fiddles performed by Libby Weitnauer and Aynsley Porchak.
“Both Jon and I have written songs with Molly Tuttle before – and she played guitar on our 2018 album, Watch It Burn!” Hiltner explains, “But this song was the first time we three sat down together to write a song. I brought the idea to the meeting, imagining a country two-step about long distance love that doesn't feel the same once the couple is reunited.”
The clever, lonesome hook of “Nothing Between Us” is part-and-parcel of the pair’s writing style, and bringing Tuttle into the puzzle of writing the song’s triple entendre was a perfect match. Meanwhile, Hiltner and Weisberger had been wanting to collaborate with the Western North Carolina-based Sarah Siskind for years, and tracking their upcoming Mountain Home album at Crossroads Studios was the perfect opportunity. Hiltner and Siskind swap verses and join together in tight, acrobatic, and old-school harmonies on each chorus. The stellar Seth Taylor (guitar) and Jenni Lyn Gardner (mandolin) complete the band.

“I don't think I'll ever get my fill of three-chord country waltzes,” says Weisberger, “and framing Justin and Sarah's delicious duet with a classic tremolo mandolin solo from Jenni Lyn and lots of twin fiddles from Libby and our pal and colleague, Aynsley, was the icing on the cake!”
A standout track from the pair’s upcoming Mountain Home Music Company debut, Sycamore, due for release in early 2027, “Nothing Between Us” shows how, with their troupe of superlative collaborators and Tuttle as co-writer, Hiltner and Weisberger always place friendship and community, wit and playfulness at the center of all they do.
“I was honored to be invited to join Justin on this waltz!” Siskind chimes in. “He and Jon are such pros at what they do and I thoroughly enjoyed being a part of their creative process.”
“Nothing Between Us,” with its mighty list of credits, the performance of its musicians, and its thoughtful lyrics, is an endlessly appealing and modern country-bluegrass waltz.

About Justin Hiltner & Jon Weisberger
Fellow natives of Ohio born 40 years apart, banjoist Justin Hiltner and bassist Jon Weisberger began writing songs together in 2012, not long after the former had moved to Nashville and the year in which the latter took home the International Bluegrass Music Association’s first Songwriter of the Year award for cuts recorded by the Infamous Stringdusters, Chris Jones & the Night Drivers, the Gibson Brothers, Terry Baucom and more.
Within a few years, they were playing together in the band of Bluegrass Hall of Fame member Roland White, and both appeared with him on 2018’s Tribute to the Kentucky Colonels (Mountain Home Music Company), including the IBMA-nominated track, “Soldier’s Joy.” By then, they’d written enough to record their first joint album, Watch It Burn, which featured Hiltner’s soulful vocals and distinctive banjo, Weisberger’s supportive bass and harmonies, and an assortment of friends that included Molly Tuttle, Corrina Logston Stephens (High Fidelity), Tristan Scroggins (Missy Raines, Bronwyn Keith-Hynes), Brandon Godman (Laurie Lewis) and Kimber Ludiker (Della Mae).
Over the next few years, Hiltner toured on his own—and spent a year in the “orchestra” for a touring production of Oklahoma!—while Weisberger had songs appear on GRAMMY-winning albums by The Travelin’ McCourys and Billy Strings and earned an IBMA award as producer of the 2021 all-star recording, “Ground Speed.”
2022 was a banner year for the pair, as they released a bluegrass gospel EP, Room at the Table, in the spring, followed by the fall release of Hiltner’s solo debut, 1992, which earned a place on “best of the year” lists at NPR Music and Slate. Further accolades followed, as Weisberger earned a GRAMMY nomination for co-writing the Billy Strings-Willie Nelson collaboration, “California Sober,” and scored another IBMA Songwriter of the Year award in 2025.
Yet even as they pursued separate careers, Hiltner and Weisberger continued to write together at every opportunity, and with another album’s worth of songs in hand, the two reunited in the studio in early 2026 for a new collection from one of bluegrass’s most durable writing partnerships.
