Nathaniel Rateliff Announces 10th Anniversary Holiday Shows in Denver

Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats have announced two new holiday shows at Denver’s Mission Ballroom on December 10 and 11, featuring legendary soul icon Mavis Staples & Friends.

The performances mark both the 20th Annual Holiday Shows and the 10th anniversary of the band’s self-titled debut album, Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats, reissued this fall with 11 previously unreleased demo recordings. The reissue offers an intimate glimpse into the creative process that launched Rateliff’s career-defining sound—melding Stax-style R&B with raw roots rock.

A Decade of Soul and Celebration

Originally released in 2015 and produced by the late Richard Swift, the breakout debut featured fan favorites “I Need Never Get Old,” “Look It Here,” “Wasting Time,” and the double-platinum hit “S.O.B.”

The album’s success propelled Rateliff from Denver clubs to international stages and appearances on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and Saturday Night Live. Over the past decade, the band’s soulful sound has filled legendary venues from Red Rocks Amphitheatre to Madison Square Garden—where Fallon joined them onstage for “S.O.B.” in a full-circle moment earlier this year.

Recently, Rateliff sat in with Louis Cato and The Late Show Band on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, performing two tracks from the debut album as Colbert celebrated the milestone anniversary.

Rateliff on Revisiting the Demos

“The journey of a song has to start somewhere,” shares Rateliff. “These are eleven unheard ideas that started in my attic a little over ten years ago. I had one mic, a two-channel interface, and my laptop. I thought I was making the last record of my career—turns out, it was the start of a new life.”

Legacy and Honors

Following the band’s Album of the Year win at the 2025 Americana Awards for South of Here (via Stax Records), Rateliff was also named Newport Folk Festival’s first Folk Steward since Pete Seeger, a three-year role focused on mentorship and artist advocacy.

As Rolling Stone wrote of South of Here, “Rateliff’s voice burns with both grit and grace—proof that American soul music is alive and thriving.”
