Toronto-based alternative and psychedelic rock artist Rise Carmine has released his debut album, Under The Red Light, a seven-song collection built around pulsing bass lines, soaring vocals and the charged atmosphere of late-night club floors.
Rise Carmine is the musical project of songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Liam Colbert, who writes, records and performs nearly all of the music himself from his bedroom studio. Drawing from a lifetime of influences and a background that included a lengthy flirtation with music school, Colbert creates music that resists settling into a single genre.
His sound is rooted in 1990s indie rock and modern psychedelia while incorporating elements of electronic music, alternative rock and dance-driven rhythms. The result recalls artists including Nine Inch Nails, Tame Impala, Royal Blood and Queens of the Stone Age without remaining confined to any one reference point.
Under The Red Light celebrates the encounters that take place in the shadows: secret meetings, sweaty unions and bodies moving together beneath flashes of light. Driven by forceful bass lines and Colbert’s expansive vocals, the album balances anthemic rock with a dark, danceable pulse.
Colbert writes all of the project’s music and plays every instrument apart from select drum performances.
“This is the only way I know how to do it,” he says.
The album follows singles including “Hooked” and “She Knows, She Knows,” which have received airplay on SiriusXM.
Rise Carmine has also developed a growing reputation as a live act, earning support slots with The Mysterines, The Amazons, We Are Scientists, Lost Cousins and Kasador. The project has appeared at Supercrawl, POP Montreal and Wintersong, with a central and eastern Canadian tour planned for fall 2026.
