Sol Chase was born into a tribe of hippies and musicians and learned to play folk songs in the fields and forests of Europe during early years on the road. The family band would venture into towns for regular busking sets, and street performing became Sol’s primary medium of musical expression for many years. After moving to Colorado, Sol fell in love with the bluegrass tradition of jams and festivals that rings through the Rocky Mountains. A later move to the energetic scene of Austin, Texas further informed his sound, a mix of uptempo jamgrass and traditional Americana.

Frost is a story of alienation, of love grown cold after many years on the wrong path. It’s a slow, bitter heartbreak worsened by the opportunity for happiness not lived. The fictional tale stands opposed to the creation process, which was a love story of community collaboration. The track was recorded at Scary American in Austin with a group of top-notch local acoustic players, many of them Sol’s friends and mentors.

“Bluegrass, and jamgrass specifically, has given me so much,” Sol said of his first release. “It’s an identity that’s helped me grow so much, and I’m so proud to be able to give something back to the genre that I’d be proud for my heroes to listen to.”

Sol has recorded with Third Eye Blind, shared the stage with The California Honeydrops, and opened for Shinyribs and The Sweet Lillies, among many others. A full EP, titled The Eclectic Life of an Only Child, will be released April 14th, 2023. Frost’s release will be accompanied by a livestream party on December 21st while Sol continues travels abroad. A full EP release party is set for April in Austin, Texas.
