The renowned jam-band Spafford closed out their 2023 Fall Tour at Ardmore Music Hall this weekend in Ardmore, PA.  The two nights of stellar improvisational music were streamed live by Nugs.net and highlighted by extensive spacey jams and multiple tasty covers.  Both nights had countless memorable moments and on night two Spafford did exactly what they do best with some incredible musical pairings.

Spafford is well known for reaching deep into the realms of music both past and present with covers ranging from 17th century classical to 90s trance-pop.  This Saturday was no exception at Ardmore Music Hall for Spafford's tour ending run.  Night two was highlighted by the rare cover of "Lucky Man" by the 70s English rock supergroup Emerson, Lake & Palmer.

This song holds a special place in the musical journey for guitarist/vocalist Brian Moss, as he and his father attended a concert by the English rock legends when he was only seven years old.

"It's one of the first concerts I can remember with my father. Gregory Lake literally had fireworks coming out of the end of his guitar.  My dad introduced me to some really great music like this and it changed me." - Brian Moss

Now that musical journey has come full circle for Moss as he gets to perform this incredible song on a stage of his very own.  In true Spafford fashion, "Lucky Man" was played directly into a jazz composition by Herbie Hancock, but with their unique addition of a house-trance twist, titled "House on Cantaloupe Island."  Keyboardist Cory Schechtman takes this song to another level with his signature spacey, synth heavy style that seems to reduce the gravity in the room.
