Philly-based comic book-inspired hard rock band The Stereotytans have just released their latest single, “Stranger Machine,” an anthemic, rollicking mashup between the Netflix show Stranger Things’ theme song and Pink Floyd’s “Welcome to the Machine.”

“I've always been a huge Pink Floyd fan and ‘Welcome to the Machine’ is one of the first Pink Floyd songs I performed as a kid,” says guitarist Gab aka Hyperion "Hyper-Gab". “I noticed one day that the chords of the Stranger Things theme were pretty much the same chords for ‘Welcome to the Machine’ and they're both in the same key! The similarities were too sticky to pass up the opportunity to experiment with meshing the songs together. Once we tried it in rehearsal, it all just clicked!,” he explains.

“We’re hoping that this song will bridge generation gaps for the lovers of Pink Floyd and the lovers of Stranger Things,” says singer Damon aka St. Prometheus. “We’re constantly thinking about our eclectic fanbase and how hardcore they are about songs from video games, movies and other pop culture trends. So we wanted to be able to present to our fans something that they could easily say, ‘Damn… Stereotytans did it again.’”

The song was co-produced by Billboard-charting producer and engineer Ron DiSilvestro, who is also the lead engineer of Forge Recording and founder of RDS Music and Media.

In celebration of the new season of Stranger Things premiering on May 27th, the band just released the song on Spotify with an accompanying music video. The DIY video shows the band at their best - having fun and not afraid to show their humorous side. It was partially filmed at RAM Arcade in Haddonfield, NJ. Bassist Chris aka Kronos shares, “‘Stranger Machine’ and the video are a tribute to a certain era, not unlike the show Stranger Things. We recorded and produced the song using modern sensibilities, but are definitely paying tribute to the 70s, 80s and 90s. Mashing up the show’s theme song with Pink Floyd showcases how some of us feel as we grow up: We try to hold on to those fun parts of ourselves while navigating the daily grind of today’s world as responsible adults.”

On Saturday, June 18th, The Stereotytans will perform at the HNICon at Temple University's Student Center which is an all ages show. Cosplay is heavily encouraged. “We’re gonna be Nerd / Blerd rocking out with our Fam Head Nerds In Charge!” says Damon.
