As the Days Between unfolds—the annual stretch honoring Jerry Garcia from his August 1 birthday through the anniversary of his passing on August 9—Sweetwater Music Hall will celebrate Garcia’s life and legacy with a series of events in Mill Valley before continuing into a wide-ranging late-summer calendar of blues, rock, bluegrass, Americana, reggae, folk, tribute acts, and local music.
Sweetwater’s Days Between programming begins Tuesday, August 4, with the First Tuesday Mill Valley Art Walk: All Things Jerry, hosted by longtime Grateful Dead crew member and Garcia confidant Big Steve Parish. The free storytelling event runs from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
On Thursday, August 6, the venue continues the celebration with See What Love Can Do, a live tribute to the Jerry Garcia Band. The 8 p.m. performance will draw from the soulful, exploratory music Garcia pursued beyond the Grateful Dead.
The Days Between programming reflects Sweetwater Music Hall’s deep connection to Marin County’s musical history. Established in 1972, Sweetwater has long served as an intimate gathering place for artists, fans, and members of the Bay Area music community. Today, the venue operates as a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit arts organization with a mission to cultivate creativity, nurture talent, and make the arts accessible to all.
Following the Jerry Garcia celebrations, Sweetwater’s August schedule continues Friday, August 7, with Bay Area rock veterans Flamin’ Groovies and Hot Laundry. The venue’s free Open Mic Night returns Tuesday, August 11, offering performers two songs or 10 minutes onstage.
Indie-pop group Warm Shower and the Towels will appear with Salt Over the Shoulder on August 12, followed by Anna Harrell with Ryann Barnes on August 14. Slide-guitar master Roy Rogers and the Delta Rhythm Kings take over the room on August 15, while Josh Zee and Friends continue their free Sunday residency on August 16.
North Mississippi Allstars bring their blues-rock sound to Sweetwater on August 20. The Unauthorized Rolling Stones follow on August 21, with David Bowie tribute Starman SF appearing August 22.
August 23 features two bluegrass events. The Marin Bluegrass Sessions host a free open jam from noon to 2 p.m., followed that evening by Dore Coller’s Bermudagrass 20th-anniversary and album-release celebration with Bermudagrass Triangle, Lorin Rowan, and Rattlebox Revival.
Americana singer-songwriter Willy Braun performs August 25. Duane Betts and Palmetto Motel arrive for a two-night Southern rock run on August 28 and 29, with Miko Marks opening both shows. The month concludes August 30 with an afternoon album-release celebration featuring Alexis Harte with The Lemon Hammer and Kat Brack.
Sweetwater’s September calendar opens with The Edge, featuring Jimmy Dillon and Lorin Rowan, on September 4. The Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band performs September 5, followed by a doubleheader on September 6 featuring an afternoon Moonalice matinee and an evening reggae show with Clinton Fearon and Iriefuse.
San Miguel Fraser brings folk music to the venue September 9. You Should Be Dancing presents a tribute to the Bee Gees on September 11, and DirtySpoon closes the announced calendar on September 12 with Love Handles and a night of ’80s and ’90s alternative music.
