Jalopy Records is proud to unveil Darkening Green, the luminous new album from New York vocal marvel Tamar Korn and Brooklyn singer-songwriter Kyle Morgan (aka Starcrossed Losers), due August 15, 2025. Praised as “sublime… transcendent” by The Wall Street Journal, Korn joins forces with Morgan—whose work exhibits “particularly strong writing” according to Under the Radar—for ten elegantly spare duets that feel timeless yet urgently of the moment. Their intertwining voices, once described by Wide Open Country as “magical,” re-imagine classics by Leonard Cohen, the Carter Family, Gillian Welch & David Rawlings, Iris DeMent, and the Platters, alongside two evocative Morgan originals.

Today the duo issues the second single, “Everything Is Free.” Friend and label-mate Wyndham Baird supplies baritone lead and three-part harmonies on the Gillian Welch/David Rawlings standard—a working-musician’s hymn that speaks uncannily to the streaming era. Earlier, Korn and Morgan previewed the record with “Life’s Railway to Heaven,” a gospel gem they first discovered through Patsy Cline.

Anchoring the album’s reflective tone is “Anthem,” Cohen’s call for grace amid fracture, arriving as the third single July 15. “It’s a salve of a song,” says Korn, “a leaning-in and letting-go.” Morgan adds, “It always feels appropriate.” The pair cut Darkening Green live in two days with bassist Jared Engel, letting every creak of wood and breath between notes underscore themes of impermanence and renewal—a mood Morgan likens to William Blake’s twilight imagery that lends the record its title.

About the Artists

A beloved fixture of the Brooklyn Folk Fest, Tamar Korn bridges early jazz, roots music, and Yiddish song, her elastic tone equally at home in busking circles and concert halls. Kyle Morgan, raised in a central-Pennsylvania evangelical church, traces a panoramic songwriting arc from 2022’s Younger at Most Everything (Team Love Records) to these stark, harmony-rich meditations. The two met on the Jalopy Theatre scene, quickly discovering what Korn calls “a beautiful feeling to harmonize together… always open to musical surprise.”
