Falco (guitar) and Book (upright bass)—both members of the Grammy-winning bluegrass innovators The Infamous Stringdusters—step out as an intimate duo to explore Jerry Garcia’s vast musical universe. What began as casual backstage warm-ups has blossomed into a full-fledged project that reimagines Garcia’s solo work, Grateful Dead staples, and the traditional tunes he loved, all filtered through the pair’s agile string interplay and rich vocal harmonies.
“Performing this music as a duo allows us to explore the songs and jam in a way that’s unique to playing as a duo,” Book notes. “We typically hear these songs in larger ensembles, but with just bass and guitar the music becomes highly interactive with the audience.” Falco adds, “It started as a fun way to loosen up before ’Dusters shows—now we can share that joy with everyone.”
Set against the spectacular mountain backdrop of Frisco’s 10 Mile Music Hall, the evening promises a fresh, close-up look at Garcia’s songwriting brilliance, delivered by two of contemporary bluegrass’s most seasoned improvisers.
