Flushing Town Hall Presents Inaugural MexFest: A Celebration of Día de los Muertos, Mexican Art & Community

Flushing Town Hall will celebrate Día de los Muertos, Mexican art, and community resilience with its first-ever MexFest, featuring an art exhibition (October 15–November 30) and a Day of the Dead celebration on Saturday, November 1.

The free event includes arts workshops, story-gathering activities, and a concert with Linda EPO and Mariachi Tapatio de Alvaro Paulino.


Community Participation

Now through October 30, community members are invited to contribute mementos—flowers, photos, or small objects—to a community ofrenda (altar) honoring loved ones. Items can be dropped off at Flushing Town Hall, Tuesdays through Thursdays, 11AM–4PM.


MexFest Exhibition

Running October 15–November 30, the exhibition Día de los Muertos | Rituales de Resiliencia features multidisciplinary works by local artists including Blanka Amezcua, Raul Martinez, and Gabriel Garcia Roman. The exhibit, curated by Arantxa Araujo and Xtian Ávila, centers on remembrance and resilience. The altar installation by Aurelia Fernández doubles as a participatory mural and storytelling space.

  • Create traditional papel picado crafts

  • Share stories of grief and remembrance

  • Contribute to a collective mural and community altar

Featuring Linda EPO and Mariachi Tapatio de Alvaro Paulino, blending two dynamic New York-based Mexican music groups for an unforgettable performance and dance lesson.

About the Artists

Linda EPO – Queens-born singer and pianist known for her multilingual performances and global stage presence, recently featured in NYC’s SummerStage 2025.
Aurelia Fernández – Mexican-born artist and papier-mâché specialist whose work enriches New York’s cultural landscape.
Alvaro Paulino Jr. – Fifth-generation mariachi musician and Musical Director of Mariachi Tapatío, recognized by New York State as “The Northeast’s Finest Mariachi.”
