Sweetwater Music Hall is proud to announce Days Between: A Celebration of the Life of Jerry Garcia, a five-day tribute series honoring the spirit and music of the Grateful Dead’s legendary frontman. From Friday, August 1 through Saturday, August 9, Sweetwater will host an eclectic lineup of performances, community art activations, birthday festivities and open-jam sessions at its intimate Corte Madera Avenue venue in Mill Valley.
The festivities kick off on Friday, August 1 with “Stardust to Darkstar”, a star-studded evening hosted by Bay Area favorite Big Steve and featuring an All-Star Band alongside special guests. Attendees can expect an immersive experience complete with an art pop-up gallery, birthday cake, ice cream and more surprises that celebrate Garcia’s enduring legacy.
On Sunday, August 3, the celebration unfolds in two parts: a daytime Jerry Garcia/Grateful Dead Open Jam, led by Spencer Krenz & Friends, invites musicians of all ages and abilities to take the stage and channel the Dead’s improvisational spirit. That evening, Like A Rose delivers a soulful, heartfelt set of Garcia-inspired grooves.
The series continues on Tuesday, August 5 with Sweetwater’s monthly First Tuesday Art Walk, featuring local painters and printmakers interpreting the visual iconography of the Dead community. It’s a perfect chance to explore new works, meet the artists and pick up a keepsake.
On Friday, August 8, Brown Eyed Women pays homage to Garcia’s songwriting with a vibrant rendition of his most beloved tunes, capturing both the joy and nuance of his music. The tribute culminates on Saturday, August 9 when Wicked Messengers: Dylan to Dead bridges two generations of Americana by weaving Jerry-styled interpretations of Bob Dylan classics into a rousing set.
