Dogs In A Pile

Editor's Note: We interviewed Greg Ormont following Pigeons Playing Ping Pong's recent show at Pier 17, only to discover that our recording had failed due to technical difficulties. Despite our efforts to recover parts of the audio, we were unsuccessful, which was particularly disappointing as Ormont’s insights were incredibly honest and powerful. As a result, we incorporated our recollections of his words into this review of the show. He’s an incredible individual, and we hope you enjoy this mashup.

Dogs In A Pile (DIAP) is excited to announce additional headlining shows in Richmond, Baltimore, and the Boston area as part of their already robust 2024 Fall Tour. This announcement continues to build momentum for the band following the recent news of their Relix-presented co-headlining debut at the historic Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, NY, with Connecticut-based quartet Eggy on November 29 and 30.

The newly added East Coast shows are:

Eggy and Dogs In A Pile will join forces to light up The Capitol Theatre for a two-night run on November 29-30 – presented by Relix. This collaboration arrives as both bands are experiencing breakout years – touring across the country and capturing national attention. Eggy is gearing up for the release of their new album Waiting Game on September 6.

Off the heels of announcing a comprehensive fall tour, Dogs In A Pile (DIAP) will return to Putnam Place in Saratoga Springs, NY, for their second-ever headlining New Year’s Eve run. Last year’s inaugural holiday affair sold out two nights at the upstate New York venue.

Dogs In A Pile (DIAP) will hit the road this fall following another wildly successful summer including headlining stops at Colorado’s Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater and the famous Mishawaka, a joint tour with Andy Frasco & The U.N. and Pigeons Playing Ping Pong, and various marquee festival slots.

There are few music festivals with the legacy of the High Sierra Music Festival (HSMF). After more than thirty years, HSMF has truly become far more than the sum of its parts. Sure, there's a ton of world-class music on several stages, parades, activities for kids, crafts and vendors, killer food, and all that. And of course, there's the camping scene, a hippie town that springs up almost overnight on the Plumas County Fairgrounds for the four-day festival around the Fourth of July each year.

The first weekend of "Pigeons Frasco Dogs Tour” featured high energy performances from all three acts over Memorial Day Weekend in the northeast. The tour kicked off on Friday 5/24 at the famed outdoor Stone Pony Summer Stage and included a collaborative encore with all three bands on stage together. The supergroup performed “Born To Run” by Asbury Park’s very own Bruce Springsteen, followed by “Run Like Hell” by Pink Floyd. Watch the full 20+ minute performance HERE.

Dogs In A Pile (DIAP) made their Stone Pony Summer Stage debut this past Friday to open the triple-threat summer tour being dubbed the “Pigeons Frasco Dogs Tour”. Andy Frasco graciously switched set times with DIAP to let the Asbury Park locals relish a little longer in the special occasion with their family, friends, and fans.

This week, we had the opportunity to sit down with Johnny Buck, the executive director and co-founder of Rooster Walk, to discuss the upcoming Rooster Walk 14. The festival began in 2009 as a tribute to late high school friends Edwin Penn ('the rooster') and Walker Shank. From its inception, the festival has focused on supporting a charity that grants college scholarships to deserving seniors at Martinsville High School and provides instruments and funding to enhance local school band programs.

The High Sierra Music Festival, one of California's longest-running annual music festivals, is celebrating its 32nd year on July 4-7, 2024, in the golden Sierra hills of Quincy. Headliners this year include Ziggy Marley, Primus, and Greensky Bluegrass. They will be joined by a wide variety of bluegrass, jam, Americana, funk, folk, and worldbeat acts on multiple stages at the Plumas County Fairgrounds.
