Keyboardist and composer Lao Tizer will lead his band that features GRAMMY Award winning saxophonist Eric Marienthal and the mesmerizing world music violinist Karen Briggs in a concert to benefit the John Coltrane International Jazz and Blues Festival’s Student Instrument Contest.  Winners of the 2020 contest will be honored during the broadcast.

The 9th Annual John Coltrane International Jazz and Blues Festival will bring an array of superstars and Grammy Award winning artists whose music ranges from contemporary and mainstream jazz, to authentic salsa and bonafide blues.

John Coltrane’s breakout year, when his mature saxophone sound first grabbed ears and his own recordings began to sell consistently, was 1958.

Though it’s been 52 years since his tragic passing, John Coltrane’s importance and influence have never been greater. Though active for a relatively short period—from 1957 to ’67—he was an intrepid spirit who developed at a feverish pace. Coltrane’s breakout year, when his mature sound first grabbed ears and his own recordings began to sell consistently, was 1958.
