Portugal. The Man
It took 26 months for the second “annual” BeachLife Festival to transpire, September 10-12, but the Covid-19-includes delay only strengthened the shindig’s vision and spirit to deliver a celebratory tip of the cap to the Los Angeles South Bay seaside’s musical and lifestyle identity. The weekend’s music exemplified many genres, but there was a decidedly distinct number of post-punk rock and alt-pop bands who first blazed their ways to glory in the late ‘80s/early ‘90s.
The Gasparilla Music Festival presented by Cigar City Brewing has unveiled the first wave of artists that will be performing at their 9th annual festival taking place March 7-8, 2020, in downtown Tampa. Brandi Carlile will be headling the festival on Saturday, March 7 and Portugal. The Man will close out the festival on Sunday, March 8.
This sold out show was one of much anticipation. There was a crowd assembled outside of the venue early for the band that has a large fan base in these parts. Tonight Portugal. The Man was back in Colorado playing alongside Crystal Castles, the experimental electronic duo from Toronto, Canada. Portugal. The Man has just finished up their successful fall tour in Las Vegas, but not before stopping at their favorite state to play in, Colorado.
After a much needed “golden slumber”, I started Saturday off in the best way possible… with a hot shower. Even though we were seriously rationing the water and it was the quickest shower I’ve taken in my life… it felt absolutely wonderful to rid myself of the Bonnaroo grime and emerge from the RV so fresh and so clean. As I make my annual pilgrimage to my 6th Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival, I cannot help but see the nostalgia in the place that is so familiar for many reasons. It starts with the car ride, where I feel like I can drive forever because I cannot wait to pass those Bonnaroo toll booths that symbolize a sense of accomplishment and enlightenment that is about to take place. The way I see it, I now have 96 hours of church to fill my soul until next year.
