Zappa Plays Zappa

Following up on the announcement that live music's premier hologram production company Eyellusion has signed with APA for representation worldwide for their tours, the ZAPPA FAMILY TRUST can now share the exclusive promotional video (which includes audio of Frank Zappa speaking about Holograms) for the "The Bizarre World Of Frank Zappa" tour.

Dweezil Zappa is both the modern face of Zappa music and the person who can bring it fully-formed into the future. The ‘Ahead of Its Time’ moniker frequently slapped onto Frank’s music is brought to life for modern audiences, who are still able to full-sensory witness the spectacular specimens of some of American music’s most original, unrepentant and boundlessly experimental canons, thanks to Dweezil and five other telepathic musicians.

The Everyone Orchestra has announced three northern California shows in March of 2015. Conducted by Matt Butler, this performance will feature Kris Meyers (Umphrey's McGee), Joel Cummins (Umphrey's McGee), Jamie Kime (Zappa Plays Zappa), Ben Thomas (Zappa Plays Zappa), and Kai Eckhardt (John McLaughlin Trio/Garaj Mahal).

When guitarist Dweezil Zappa, son of guitarist, composer, bandleader, actor, social activist, and pseudo-comedian Frank Zappa created the Zappa Plays Zappa project in 2006, he intended it as a tribute to his father’s legacy, a one-off that might reconnect some old fans and breed some new ones in the process. Eight years down the road his project is more popular than ever.

The daunting task of interpreting the music of Frank Zappa has made the iconized jazz-fusion composer/musician less often a cover project than one might expect.

The music of Frank Zappa could be considered the most important compositional contributions to American popular music in the 20th century. Many might find this claim blasphemous. What about Miles Davis? John Coltrane? Bing Crosby? The list could go on. Zappa's music blended important elements of orchestral and jazz music while serving as a working parody of music and popular culture.

97.3 KBCO & Z2 Entertainment are proud to present Zappa Plays Zappa at the Fox Theatre on Friday, December 14th, 2012.  Tickets go on sale Friday, September 21st for $35.00 in advance and $40.00 day of show.

This was a night to be excited about. The night was filled with two heavy hitting, classic, amazingly talented bands. I was even thrilled to be going to the Paramount Theater in Denver to see this show because this underrated venue just does not have the caliber shows that it deserves. Every time I go there I am reminded by how magnificent it is. It was the perfect place for these two power houses to take the stage.
