Jensen Communications just announced that Jesse Colin Young released a new single and music video, “Trouble” which features his daughter, Jazzie Young. The father / daughter duo is celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Harold and Maude with the release of their rendition of the Yusuf Islam (Cat Stevens) soundtrack hit, “Trouble.”

Jesse states, "I have lived with this song in my heart for decades and through many times of trouble. My daughter Jazzie Young thought I wrote it because I would sing it often,” said Jesse Colin Young. “I am delighted to have her sing this with me, as it’s a dear friend to both of us. Thank you, Yusuf Islam, for this gift. And thank you Harold and Maude for bringing it to us in visuals. Happy 50th!”.

“‘Trouble’ was the song that introduced me to Yusuf Islam (Cat Stevens). My dad used to play it a lot when I was younger, so it feels like such a cool full circle moment to be able to sing on this record with him,” echoed Jazzie Young.

Jesse Colin’s Young is a pioneer of American roots music for more than half a century, he has left a unique mark on the intersecting worlds of folk, blues, jazz, country, and rock & roll. As the frontman of the Youngbloods, he immortalized the ideals of the Woodstock generation with "Get Together," an international hit that called for peace and brotherhood during the turbulent 1960s. During the decades that followed, Young expanded both his audience and his artistic range, releasing a string of solo albums that mixed socially conscious lyrics with top-tier guitar skills and gorgeous vocals. An acclaimed songwriter, singer, instrumentalist, producer, label owner, podcast host, and longtime social/environmental activist, he has established a permanent place in America's musical landscape, while continuing to make modern music that's every bit as vital as his work during the counterculture era.

Canadian pop-rock band, The Honeyrunners, release their debut LP “Everything Is On Fire” (Gypsy Soul Records / Warner Music Canada / FUGA / Proper Music Group) today, Friday, October 22, on streaming platforms and limited edition vinyl. The band’s new 9-song body of work aims to disrobe our culture of apathy – a sentiment that everything is always on fire, with nothing to do but watch.

The record was born of late nights and long drives; a tapestry of rhythm and melody, underpinned by desperate optimism and a stark reminder of why your presence is needed in times like these. The chorus of the title track sums up the band’s approach to art, “Let it burn. It’s the ashes that I admire.”

Listen to the new album Everything Is On Fire here. Or catch a nice sample with "Cabin Fever."

“We write songs for the times we need them”, notes pianist and lead singer Dan Dwoskin, when asked about the insomnia-fueled lyrics of the album. “This record was born of the love, fear, and insecurity of being a new Father. The music was years in the making, honed during a gap between the original Honeyrunners roster and a new lineup of musicians joining the band between 2018 and 2020. We started with twenty-five songs and trimmed it down to nine, crafting a front-to-back listen with a potent story.”

The four-piece Toronto group (toting eleven members for larger shows) is fronted by Ottawa-born songwriter Dan Dwoskin (keys, lead vocals) and Canadian-Peruvian multi-instrumentalist, engineer, and producer, Guillermo Subauste (bass, vocals). Newer additions to the lineup include the soulful Conor Gains (electric guitar, vocals) and Toronto-born drummer and filmmaker, Lewis Spring (drums, percussion, vocals).

The Honeyrunners

Recording at Subauste’s Pacha Sound studio (Toronto) was a blessing for the band, taking the time to fine-tune their new sound, a melting pot of folk, pop, rock, blues, and soul - Americana to the discerning Radio DJ. Self-produced by Subauste and Dwoskin, the band enlisted a slew of local Toronto talent for the album; Carleigh Aikins (Bahamas, Paper Bird), Haig Beylerian, Marcus Bucci, Meg Contini (The O’Pears, Dwayne Gretzky), Tom Ionescu (Jane’s Party, Whitney Rose), Bruce Mackinnon, Samantha Martin, Tom Moffett (Arkells, Bedouin Soundclash), Andrew Moljgun, Champagne James (Lindi Ortega, Lydia Persaud), and Micah Sky.

EVERYTHING IS OKAY. EVERYTHING IS NOT OKAY.

Written and composed by Dan Dwoskin and Guillermo Subauste (aka The Honeyrunners), Everything Is On Fire is a response to a public outpouring of anxiety and depression. After a year and a half of challenges in a broken music industry, the two musicians are well-acquainted with these feelings (as are most artists, to some extent), yet they are also acquainted with self-reinvention (as are most artists). The process was cathartic - writing and recording songs for people who need to feel they are not alone in this heaviness, surrounded by a world full of apathy. Guillermo’s weighs in, “We anchored tracks with a New Orleans sensibility, using pocket rhythms, countless styles of keys, and punchy horns to bring the songs to life. The cherry is a quilt of guitar hooks, a choir’s worth of harmonies, and a soulful lead vocal by Dan.” It feels like home. There is no coincidence that the band toured to New Orleans in January 2020, showcasing at Folk Alliance International, with the entire industry coming to a standstill shortly after.

The Honeyrunners are a Northern take on Southern Americana – hot-blooded and rife with the poetry of heartache. Their energy is contagious on stage and on record; as are their stories. Their music suits fans of bands like The Lumineers, Bahamas, Alabama Shakes, Brandi Carlile, Nathaniel Rateliff, and Leon Bridges, to name a few influences.

The Honeyrunners have toured North America coast-to-coast, fueled by early commercial success with song placements on ads by Coca-Cola and Bacardi. Singles from the band’s earlier releases, EP I (2013) and EP II (2014) have garnered heavy play on hundreds of Canadian and US college radio stations, paving the road for live appearances on national television, music festivals, breweries, club circuits, and Nashville-style backyard BBQ’s alike (a band favourite). They have been lucky to share stages with friends and mentors, including The Sadies, The Trews, The Beaches, Philip Sayce, Nick Waterhouse, King Khan, U.S.S., Grapes of Wrath, Skye Wallace and many more.

Keep an eye out for more news on The Honeyrunners in the coming weeks, as more releases are right around the corner!

New Zealand-born and Nashville-based Americana/Folk band, South For Winter, is excited to announce the release of the Acoustic Sessions EP; a follow-up of their critically-acclaimed debut album, Luxumbra. The EP, set to release on June 23, is the final fulfillment from their successful 2020 crowdfunding campaign for their album’s independent release, which reached over 120% of its funding goal. The “Acoustic Sessions” EP contains four acoustic versions of songs from Luxumbra, each of which were hand-picked by the band’s loyal Kickstarter supporters.

Luxumbra is trio South for Winter's debut full-length album, and they left nothing on the table as they packed storytelling lyrics, complex instrumentation, and weaving harmonies into all thirteen tracks on the record. On Luxumbra, South for Winter dances deftly from bluesy murder ballads to airy acoustic duets; from traditional stomp and holler to smooth jazz; from stripped-back instrumentals to heavily layered folk-rock; and everywhere in between. Luxumbra is a true representation of the unique and eclectic sound that has become the band’s signature. Luxumbra was recorded at The Tracking Room studio in Nashville TN and produced by GRAMMY award-winning Matt Leigh.

Their first album single, “Twine,” premiered on Out From The Pine Box in April 2019 and was selected as a DJ Pick by Nashville’s Lightning 100 Radio. Musical Notes Global premiered the trio’s next album single, “Ten Black Crows,” and Paste’s Noisetrade featured the live music video for the following release of “All We Have.” The subsequent single of “Devil is a’Calling” premiered on The Static Dive and was featured by BuzzMusic. In June 2020 the official music video for “Devil is a’Calling” debuted on Ditty TV’s World Premiere and was broadcasted through DittyTV’s station, The Curve. Grateful Web premiered their next single “Always You” in July, and a live performance of the track aired on News Channel 4’s Today in Nashville. Stone Cold Crazy afterward interviewed the band about their story and album. Their final album single “Stone” was premiered by American Songwriter in September 2020. VENTS Magazine then premiered the album’s release in October 2020, with AmericanaUK reviewing the album soon after and describing it as "A complex meditation on life, an ethereal, dreamy, journey sharpened with an underlying aggressive blues-edge …A journey well-worth taking". Luxumbra also received praise and support from the radio community, including DJ Bruce Swan of WPKN playing the album from start to finish on radio show “Music My Mother Would Not Like” and WFUV’s DJ John Platt choosing Luxumbra as his “Top DJ Pick” of 2021. The release turned heads in the Americana world, leading to South for Winter’s nominations as an Official Showcase Artist at Folk Alliances Midwest and Southwest Regional in 2021 and Folk Alliance International in 2022. Between these releases, South for Winter has been touring from coast to coast in the U.S. and Canada, even completing their first New Zealand tour in early 2022 and receiving raving tour press from sites like 13th Floor NZ and Music.net.nz.

South for Winter is composed of New Zealander Nick Stone (vocals, guitar), Coloradan Dani Cichon (vocals, mandolin), and Michigan cellist Alex Stradal. The powerhouse trio has risen quickly through the ranks of roots musicians in their three years as a band - receiving nominations as a rising artist by Nashville's Lightning 100 Radio station in 2018, a "Most Wanted" Emerging Artist by Falcon Ridge Festival in 2019, and a top 10 artist of 2019 by Buzz Music LA. They have not only received rave reviews from publications, but have also had an outpouring number of support through social media and Spotify (reaching over 9K listeners, 221K Streams, and 600 followers this year alone - and still growing). Their fan base additionally helped fund the independent release of Luxumbra, raising over $12,000 in donations through a Kickstarter campaign even when it launched in the first stages of the current pandemic.

Psychedelic rock juggernauts Futurebirds reunited with guitarist/producer Carl Broemel from My Morning Jacket on their new EP, Bloomin’ Too. Today, they are releasing their first single, “Buffet Days” off the seven-track EP, which is coming September 9th on No Coincidence Records

Check out, “Buffet Days” through these platforms.

Recorded at the legendary Ronnie’s Place in Nashville two worlds collided building a sincere kinship and solidarity. Futurebirds’ Carter King says - “Carl is really in tune with what the band is and what it strives to be. He’s engaged and understands our vision…And it’s great to be able to defer to someone you respect so much with creative decisions in the studio…”

“Buffet Days” is part of the seven-track collection which sets the tone and meaning. The EP in itself is “a vortex of sonic textures”, says writer Garret K. Woodward. He goes on to say that this, “album ricochets from cosmic space, rock to rough around the edges, alt-country dreamscapes, sandy beach bum odes to kick in your step pop ballads — all signature tones and musical avenues at the core of the Birds' wide musical palette.”

Futurebirds is not just a band comprised of musicians Carter King (singer/guitarist), Daniel Womack (singer/, Thomas Johnson (singer/guitarist) and Brannen Miles (bassist), Kiffy Myers (pedal steel), Spencer Thomas (keyboardist) and Tom Myers (drummer) - they are a community, sharing their unique vibe and love for musical perception. King says it best, “We’ve been unintentionally carving out our own space since the beginning, since we never exactly fit in anywhere else musically. We were always too indie rock for the jam festival, too country for the indie scene, a little too psych-rock to feel like we were Americana. The music over the years just kind of created its own weird little ecosystem — it's thriving and it feels great.”

Futurebirds will continue to perform in support of their new EP as Special Guests with CAAMP on their July tour as well as a two-night run at Red Rocks in October. They will also be supported by Illiterate Light on their own headlining fall tour, full list of dates below.

Athens, GA indie rock band, Futurebirds, have teamed up with guitarist/producer Carl Broemel from My Morning Jacket to create a new EP, Bloomin’ Too. They previously released, “Buffet Days”, their first single off the album, and today they are releasing their second single, “Sinz & Frenz” off the seven-track EP, which is coming September 9th on No Coincidence Records.

“Sinz & Frenz” was written pre-pandemic with the goal of it being the opener for a solo record Daniel Womack was working on. “The chaos of the quarantine complicated its completion so I had to shelve it, indefinitely. When the Bloomin’ project began to blossom and talks of recording Bloomin’ Too began, I knew it was its time to shine. A straightforward rock 'n' roll song about honesty, friendship, and makin’ lemonade outta bong water and I couldn’t be more stoked with how it turned out."

Abby Litman releases her second single off her new EP, Still On My Mind, today premiering through Vents Magazine. This single is the second of three to come. It’s a mirror image of her last EP, On My Mind, but with a new twist that will still pull on your heartstrings melodically and lyrically.

“Alright” is all about embracing the present moment while wishing well to the past, the freedom of moving at your own pace, and pursuing the things that make you feel alive along the way. While its lyrics are reflections on the many “what ifs” and unknowns, “Alright (reimagined)” has an undeniably carefree feel, opening with playful nylon-string guitars, reminiscent of summer, driving with the windows down. The track is buttressed by a shaker and soft, yielding harmonies. Altogether, “Alright (reimagined)” serves as an easygoing meditation on life. The song’s artwork is the reverse side of a quilt, with white embroidered cream stitching that symbolizes everyone's attempt to carve out their own winding, ever-changing path.

Listen to “Alright (reimagined)” On Spotify and YouTube

Back in 2021, Abby Litman teamed up with Grammy-nominated producer Tyler Chester (Andrew Bird, Madison Cunningham, Margaret Glaspy) to record two 3-song EP’s, On My Mind and Still On My Mind (releasing early Spring 2023). Collectively these songs resonate beyond their individual meanings. These songs showcase Litman’s extensive range, knack for harmony, and penchant for heartfelt storytelling. Her sonically-rich performance accompanies her honest lyrics that mirror her personal anxieties along with any other generation feeling the uncertain truths and dread of finding meaning in the world all while trying to make most of the uncertainties that life puts on hold.

The single cover art represents not only Litman’s creative sewing project but also represents each single individuality through the beautiful artwork that is fastened into one distinct texture. As a result, Litman takes the qualities of a physical relic, a wooden chest that, when opened, reveals one artist’s meditation on love, loss, and the pursuit of happiness and creative passion.

ABOUT ABBY LITMAN

Singer/songwriter Abby Litman is an up-and-coming folk musician whose songs marry the lyrical traditions of American folk music with inventive acoustic arrangements and modern concepts. A graduate of USC’s Thornton School of Music, she released her debut album, Seasons, along with original artwork, in 2016, her single, The Garden, accompanied by an animated music video, in 2019, and has played in and curated shows across Los Angeles. She founded Good Folk, an LA-based concert series for local folk musicians, in 2017 and has featured more than thirty artists.

Originally from Bethesda, Maryland, Litman’s first foray into music started with classical piano lessons at the age of 6. Her dad, a Bob Dylan fanatic, made sure to supplement Chopin’s nocturnes with a healthy dose of Bob Dylan, and it didn’t take long until Abby was permanently hooked to Dylan’s gritty, honest, and mythic storytelling. Sneaking off with her dad’s Martin guitar, she began learning Dylan’s guitar parts by ear and notating her father’s edition of collected Bob Dylan lyrics. By high school, she was writing poetry and making her own songs. She learned to read and listen widely, from Nick Drake to Edna St. Vincent Millay to Joni Mitchell, whose soaring, arching vocal lines continue to serve as a measuring stick for her own.

New Zealand-formed and Nashville-based Americana/Folk band, South For Winter, is excited to announce the release of single “Something in the Stars”; the first single release from their upcoming concept album, Of Sea and Sky, which is a follow-up to their critically-acclaimed debut album, Luxumbra. This album was produced by multi GRAMMY award-winner, Matt Leigh.

"Something in the Stars" tells the tale of the band's origins; the true love story of a New Zealand musician and a Colorado songwriter first meeting in Peru, South America and forging a connection as they wrote a song together on a rooftop. After traveling between countries to visit each other like birds in migration, the two artists settled together on the South Island of NZ in Christchurch and began performing together as duo South for Winter. The two soon moved the project to Nashville TN, where it formally took flight as a trio.

"Something in the Stars" is about meeting someone who shifts your worldview; someone who makes it feel like the stars have just changed in formation, and your path in life has been irrevocably changed.

“Something in the Stars” is the first single off South for Winter’s highly-anticipated sophomore album, Of Sea and Sky, a concept album with complementary themes of air and water. The album will be split into “Side A/Sky” and “Side B/Sea” digital halves, with one complete physical release. Singles from the album will be trickled out over the course of the next year, with the second album single off the “Side A/Sky” half due this May 2023.

Trio South for Winter consists of New Zealander Nick Stone, Colorado native Dani Cichon, and Michigander Alex Stradal, and together the three multi-instrumentalists and songwriters combine elements such as cello, guitar, mandolin, suitcase stomp, and three-part harmonies into a genre-bending sound often compared to acts like The Civil Wars and The Dead South.

The band has landed accolades such as a Semi-Finalist in the 2022 International Songwriting Competition, Finalist for “Best Group/Duo” in the 2023 International Acoustic Music Awards, Official Showcase Artist at Folk Alliance International in 2022, Top DJ Pick by John Platt of NYC’s WFUV in 2021, and “Most Wanted” Emerging Artist at Falcon Ridge Festival in 2019. Their music has been praised by sites such as American Songwriter ("laden with delicate harmonies, intricate guitar-work, and earthy vocals... impeccable sound"), NoDepression ("must-see artist"), For the Love of Bands ("a wonderful mix of indie and folk rock"), Grateful Web ("eclectic in the best sense of the word"), AmericanaUK ("An ethereal, dreamy, journey...a journey well-worth taking"), Relix Magazine, and DittyTV. They have not only received rave reviews from publications, but have also had an outpouring number of support through social media and Spotify (reaching over ~247K listeners, ~733K Streams, and 2.2k followers this year alone - and still growing). Their fan base additionally helped fund the independent release of Luxumbra, raising over $12,000 in donations through a Kickstarter campaign, even when it launched in the first stages of the pandemic.

Between writing and recording, the trio has been completing tours throughout the United States, New Zealand, and Canada, with their first European tour due this Summer 2023.

New Zealand-formed and Nashville-based Americana/Folk band, South For Winter, is excited to announce the release of single “Wintersleep (Southern Lights)”; the third single released from their upcoming concept album, Of Sea and Sky, which is a follow-up to their critically-acclaimed debut album, Luxumbra. This album was produced by multi GRAMMY award-winner, Matt Leigh (Willie Nelson, Sister Sadie)

Dreamy, harmony-laden single “Wintersleep (Southern Lights)” was written by members Nick and Dani Stone about returning to New Zealand after years of musician hibernation during the 2020-2021 pandemic. “We were so stoked to see that first glimpse of New Zealand from the flight, that it didn’t seem real,” says Nick. “The Southern Lights are a rare phenomenon to see in New Zealand, and they felt like the perfect metaphor for how we felt when we got back home. Getting to hug friends and family again, play music, and see all the beautiful sights of New Zealand made the dark times leading up to it worth it.”

Dani Stone adds, “The song also kind of touches on how we were each others’ ‘Southern Lights’ during the pandemic. Even on the worst days, our friends and family helped keep us afloat and make us see that there was still beauty in the world.”

If you're a fan of gentle finger-picked guitar, ethereal three-part harmonies, cinematic string swells, and descriptive, poetic lyricism, check out this latest single by South for Winter.

Second single “Underneath the Blood Moon” arrived this July 2023 with a Southern Gothic bang, foreshadowing a level of duality within the upcoming album that has now become a signature aspect of South for Winter’s sound.

Their fan base raised over $20,000 (over 130% of the band’s crowdfunding goal) in their 2023 Kickstarter campaign for the independent release of their sophomore album, Of Sea and Sky. Their listeners additionally helped fund the independent release of Luxumbra in 2020, raising over $12,000 in donations through a Kickstarter campaign even when it launched in the first stages of the pandemic.

Between writing and recording, the trio has been completing tours throughout the United States, New Zealand, Canada, and Europe, with upcoming 2024 national and international album release tours to be announced shortly.

The Athens, Georgia-based group once again teamed up with storied My Morning Jacket guitarist/producer Carl Broemel for the latest chapter of a seamless, bountiful partnership that initially came to fruition with the 2021 EP, Bloomin’, and was followed up with the 2022 EP, Bloomin’ Too.

Recorded over 9 shows performed together, the live compilation finds the “Carlbirds” firing on all cylinders, with the best highlights captured for posterity on …Thanks Y’all. The album captures the energy of a live concert, with crisp, dynamic audio that puts you in the center of the crowd.

“Futurebirds have this unique vibe with three singer-songwriters in the band, where everyone is constantly shifting their function depending on the song,” Broemel says. “Everyone just kind of falls into place and finds something to contribute. Someone will lead the charge on one song, then fall back and let another take charge on the next — it’s something rare to see and behold in rock music, where normally there’s just one songwriter and one leader.”

Singer/guitarist Daniel Womack says, “We're long overdue for a live release and feel super lucky to have one of our mentors quarterbacking the project. Carl takes us to another level and I think the stoke translates well in these versions"

For the lead single, the band delivers an electric rendition of one of their most popular songs, "Rodeo". The 2015 fan-favorite track with over 17 million Spotify streams was ripe for the live treatment. Singer/guitarist Daniel Womack says, "The way we play this song has evolved over the years and it rocks a lot harder these days so we’re super stoked to get a live version out there.”

New Zealand-formed and Nashville-based Americana/Folk band, South For Winter, is excited to announce a new collaboration with indie-folk Australian artist, Tom West. The two co-wrote South for Winter’s new single “Undertow”, which is the fourth single released off the band’s upcoming album, Of Sea and Sky. South for Winter recorded the single, along with the rest of their sophomore album Of Sea and Sky, with multi GRAMMY-award winning producer Matt Leigh in Nashville TN.

Lead vocalist and songwriter Dani Stone shares: "Collaborating with Tom on 'Undertow' was such a cool process.  I was struggling with writer’s block on the chorus of this song, and had pretty much given up on it. I’ve always loved Tom’s melodies and poeticism in his lyrics, though. I knew he was the right person to collaborate with in order to make the song come out right. The best thing is, it came out even better than we’d hoped.”

"Undertow" weaves together the distinct musical styles of South For Winter and Tom West, featuring a harmonious yet anthemic blend that hits all the right “The Oh Hellos” feels. The song explores themes of resilience, love, and the ebb and flow of life. With poignant lyrics, earworm melodies, stacked harmonies and dynamic instrumentation, "Undertow" invites listeners on a journey through a sonic landscape that is both intimate and expansive.  "Undertow" serves as a captivating preview of “Sea Side”, the second half of South for Winter’s much-anticipated sophomore album, Of Sea and Sky. To hear an epic collaboration between two talented artists and songwriters, listen to “Undertow” by South for Winter featuring Tom West.

The album, Of Sea and Sky, will be split into “Side A/Sky” and “Side B/Sea” digital halves with one complete physical release. This is a concept album with complementary themes of air and water. More singles from the album will be trickled out over the course of the next year, with the entire album coming out in digital and physical formats in May 2024.

Between writing and recording, the trio has been completing tours throughout the United States, New Zealand, Canada, and Europe, with upcoming 2024 national and international album release tours to be announced shortly.
