Long Beach Dub Allstars frontman Opie Ortiz has released his first ever solo album Sound Sensation Vol. 1 under his Opie & Family moniker across digital music platforms today. Opie & Family's new record was co-written by Ortiz and The Aggrolites frontman Jesse Wagner, who also produced the work with additional engineering and mixing by Chris Brennan (Arise Roots, The Aggrolites). The album is a sonic journey into a vortex of easy-going roots reggae and feel-good vibrations.
"This album was born out of my desire to do a solo venture and use some ideas that I had been collecting over the years," commented Ortiz on the catalyst for his first-ever solo record. "We recorded the first three songs at Jesse’s house in Corona, CA, which is ironic as that is where I was born. Everything took a lot longer on this record because of the pandemic restrictions, but writing for this album came quickly and everything just sort of flowed out during the writing sessions."
Ortiz continues, "I decided to release this under the moniker of Opie & Family, because Jesse has always been family to me, and my youngest daughter Roxy is also featured on the record. I would run ideas and compositions by her and had her sing on a lot of the songs opposite of me on ‘Making Decisions'. Having my family to bounce ideas off of was a huge inspiration, especially my youngest son, Oliver, who is also all over this album."
Sound Sensations Vol. 1 is Ortiz's solo debut after becoming a legendary figurehead within the West Coast reggae-rock scene. Ortiz was a founding member of Long Beach Dub Allstars alongside former original Sublime members Eric Wilson and Bud, as well as Ras 1, Ras MG and Miguel from Skunk Records. The group picked up the torch and helped usher in the next generation of rock-reggae. “The process of making this album started in 2019,” Brian J explains. “I was on a bit of a break from Pimps of Joytime and just began laying some grooves and chord progressions down. A spirit of love and exaltation was my guiding influence throughout the creative process, and it is my hope that folks will come away with that feeling after listening.”
Wrapped in feel-good vibrations, “Lesson” lyrics reveal a deeper meaning of letting go of the things in life that continue to hold you back. The song is a hard-hitting dance track laced with soaring psychedelic undertones that fully encapsulates this new post-modern era of electronic music.
“The majority of the lyrics of Lesson were written in a stream consciousness, in the studio. I later did some refining and editing with the help of Carol C. I am pretty much offering myself advice in and through the song. Realizing some things never get resolved, you just gotta let it all go, Buddha style!” Brian J explains.
Though Brian J handles a sizable portion of writing, instrumentation, and production, this sizzling new Pimps elixir also incorporates crucial contributions from Carol C (Si*Sé), and several performances from New Mastersounds bassist Pete Shand. Though a decidedly-fresh start for this long-running, genre-blurring collective, Reachin’ Up also pays tribute to their past. Brian J reconnects with old friends like Chauncey Yearwood and Marcus Farrar (Antibalas), whose roots trace back to Pimps of Joytime’s earliest efforts. Their contributions are prominently featured on the album’s singles, bringing the project full circle.
Splitting time between Brooklyn and New Orleans and honing his craft as an accomplished live performer, multi-instrumentalist and producer Brian J is no stranger to working with legendary talent in both studio and live settings. After wrapping a 50+ date tour across America with Tejon Street Corner Thieves, Amigo The Devil will return to the stage Saturday, February 5th for special global livestream event dubbed, "Murder at the Belasco". The event will mark the first time Amigo has ever played with a full live band in concert.

First hearing the Bob Marley song “One Love” in Ireland as a 12 year old boy, Kevin Kinsella received his calling to play Reggae music. Founding his first band The Tribulations when he was fifteen, he soon found himself opening up for Toots and the Maytals who gave him strong encouragement to continue his vocation. The Tribulations recorded their first full album “The Gate” in 1992 and went on to win the Yamaha Soundcheck competition which took them to both Japan and Jamaica.
In 1995 Kevin founded and named his second group – John Brown’s Body and led them in being signed to Shanachie Records, with whom they recorded several albums which were acclaimed by both critics and fans as classics of American Reggae. Prior to that, Kevin had founded his own imprint label, I Town Records. It was during his tenure as lead singer and primary writer of John Brown’s Body that he started and gave name to the group 10 FT Ganja Plant, who have recorded 10 albums to date.
Amidst writing, recording and touring with both John Brown’s Body and 10 FT Ganja Plant, Kevin has released 4 solo records. ‘At Imperial Sound, Volume 1’ is just the beginning as he forges a new partnership with Regime Music Group.
GRAMMY-winning soul/R&B powerhouse Nigel Hall showcases his chops with a brand new live version of the track “Don’t Change for Me”, off his acclaimed 2015 record Ladies & Gentleman…Nigel Hall. This rendition was recorded live at The Camel in Richmond, VA on November 27th, 2021, with an impressive Richmond-born backing band– featuring Devonne “DJ” Harrison, Marcus “Tennishu” Tenney, Corey Fonville, Andrew Randazzo & Morgan Burrs of Butcher Brown. Hall, being from DC, exudes an elevated energy, matching that of the hometown crowd who packed out an oversold house.

GRAMMY-nominated band Common Kings have released their brand new single "Raggamuffin" via tastemaker label Mensch House Records. The song's instantly contagious chorus of “Be the one that she needs raggamuffin, be the air that she breathe…” adds some breezy roots reggae riddims to Common Kings addictive sound.
"Our new song 'Raggamuffin' is the ultimate feel-good song. Once you hear it, you can’t help but vibe to it," commented Common Kings guitarist Taumata Grey. “This track was created from a ‘riddim’ that our good friends Young Pow and Veer produced. They're amazing producers that work with artists like Damian Marley, Stephen Marley and many other Jamaican reggae royalty. They hit us up, sent the riddim, and asked if we'd be down to jump on, and the rest was history,” he adds. “Raggamuffin” sets the tone for an exciting full-length album from the Kings in 2023.

Deitch is also an in-demand electronic and hip-hop producer, working alongside industry titans like Pretty Lights and 50 Cent.
Deitch’s resume includes landing production placements on major label releases from Redman, Talib Kweli, 50Cent, Pharoahe Monch, and MF Doom. He has also recorded sessions for releases by Justin Timberlake, Wyclef Jean/The Fugees, DJ Quik, and toured with Meshell Ndegeocello. Deitch has appeared in producer Pretty Lights’ all-star ensemble the Analog Future Band (2012/2013) and contributed to his 2012 Grammy winning LP A Color Map of the Sun.

“This song is celebrating its 25th anniversary. It is the title track of John Brown’s Body first release, which has gone on to be a historic contribution to the U.S. Reggae movement. Written in response to my father’s death, it speaks to ideas of eternity and multi-universes where new life is constantly brought forth,” explains Kevin.

Atlanta rock four-piece Brother Hawk have officially released their new album The Dreamer today via Liars Club, the new label formed by Amigo the Devil and indie powerhouse Regime Music Group. The album was recorded with producer Tom Tapley (Blackberry Smoke, Mastodon) and channels all of the band's unique influences into one complex tapestry of raging Southern blues-rock riffs, epic-sounding organ, and soulful vocals that give you goose-bumps.
"The Dreamer is my dad. Joseph the dreamer from the Bible is his namesake. I wanted something that said his name and that it was about him without actually saying it, and the dreamer was the first thing that came to my mind. It’s him. Positive, hopeful, mystical, curious," says Brisendine. "My father Joe passed away in July of 2017. He was my best friend, and he was in the band as well. He played harmonica on all of our releases and played shows with us all around the southeast. He was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer in February of 2017. The songs on the record are about my life since then, the impact that his passing had on myself, my brother and my mother as well as my relationships with them. I see it as a love letter to my family in a way."
To celebrate the launch of their new album Brother Hawk have released a brand new video for "Love Made Us" online. The video was created by Brother Hawk keyboardist/vocalist Nick Johns-Cooper using footage captured during the recording sessions at West End Sound in Atlanta, GA and live footage from their tour with Amigo the Devil.
"The song 'Love Made Us' has been my favorite song on the record since we wrote it. I think it sets the tone for the record perfectly," said JB Brisendine.

"The album is about life and death, love and loss, partying and sobriety. The album encompasses the wide range of emotions we’ve experienced over the life of our band," said vocalist/banjo player Connor O’Neal. "We explored the differences in our writing styles and combined them in a way that creates an ebb and flow of fun party jams and serious, and sometimes heartbreaking, Americana anthems. Tejon Street Corner Thieves, the captivating outlaw alt-folk ensemble hailing from Colorado Springs, have unveiled their latest single, "The End of Apathy," available today on all major digital platforms. To kick off the journey in support of their forthcoming album 'Juxtaposition,' set to release on October 27th, 2023 through Liars Club Records, the Corner Thieves are hitting the road for an American tour alongside Amigo The Devil.
"With a lot going on in the world, I felt I needed to write a song that gave hope. If for no one else, maybe just for me," said Shawn D’Amario when commenting about the inspiration behind the new single. "This song is about deciding to no longer be caged and broken down by the ones with the money to keep us that way. It's about deciding to no longer be content with struggling.”
Produced under the expert guidance of acclaimed producer Bill Douglas (known for his work with Veruca Salt and Smashing Pumpkins) at Royal Recordings in Colorado Springs, 'Juxtaposition' promises to be a significant addition to Liars Club's ever-expanding roster. Tejon Street Corner Thieves, the pioneering act signed to Liars Club Records the label co-founded by Amigo the Devil and indie powerhouse Regime Music Group, present a 9-track masterpiece showcasing their remarkable ability to seamlessly blend Americana, Bluegrass, Folk, and Punk into a cohesive and commanding sound.
From their humble beginnings as street performers on Tejon Street in Colorado Springs, marked by a legendary "corner-stealing" rivalry with fellow buskers, Tejon Street Corner Thieves have come a long way. 'Juxtaposition' adds to their impressive discography, which includes an EP (Demons in 2020), a live acoustic recording (Monarch Sessions in 2020), an album of traditional tunes (Stolen Goods in 2021), and a full-length studio release (Thick As Thieves in 2022). Their unique blend of songwriting finesse, musical prowess, relentless touring, and charismatic stage presence has garnered them a devoted global following known affectionately as "Tejomies."
