Throughout music history, the breakthrough albums for several legendary artists were live recordings – At Fillmore East by The Allman Brothers Band, Frampton Comes Alive by Peter Frampton, and Alive by KISS. Now four decades later, history seems poised to repeat itself with the release of We’re All In This Together, the powerful, new live album by Hard Working Americans.

Recorded by monitor engineer Colin Cargile during the band’s 2016 Rest In Chaos tour, the album was produced by Dave Schools and mixed by the legendary John Keane, who also mixed the band’s first record. We’re All In This Together features 13 tracks, with most selected from an unforgettable show at Iron City in Birmingham, Alabama.

Listen to HWA’s rendition of Chuck Berry’s “School Day” (Ring! Ring! Goes the Bell) from the forthcoming album HERE:

Dubbed a “jam band super hero group” by some journalists, because of it’s high-profile lineup, the rock sextet features bassist Dave Schools and drummer Duane Trucks of Widespread Panic, guitarist Neal Casal of Chris Robinson Brotherhood, keyboardist Chad Staehly of Great American Taxi, Tulsa guitarist Jesse Aycock, and celebrated singer-songwriter Todd Snider on lead vocals.

“For the kind of band we are, I think this is a definite statement for us,” Snider says of  We’re All In This Together. “It captures a collective spirit, a collective muse being shared by a thousand-plus people.”  Duane Trucks adds, “We have the power of the songs in a live setting and have a good picture of the exploratory nature of the band. That’s what you hope for.”

We’re All In This Together will be released August 4, 2017 on Melvin/Thirty Tigers.

Hard Working Americans is gearing up for their fall tour, adding more dates out west in November, in support of their newly released live album, We’re All In This Together.

Vocalist Todd Snider, bassist Dave Schools, drummer Duane Trucks, keyboardist Chad Staehly, lap/steel guitarist Jesse Aycock, and newcomer guitarist, Daniel Sproul, will kick off the first few dates of the tour in Texas, alongside Tedeschi Trucks Band. After that, HWA will be playing headline shows in Oklahoma City, Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, North Carolina, Florida, Georgia and Alabama. On November 3rd, the band will rejoin Tedeschi Trucks Band on the west coast for some dates, and they have added new dates of their own in California, Arizona, Colorado, Utah and Oregon (see below), before wrapping up the tour at the Fox Theatre in Oakland November 17th.

We’re All In This Together, perfectly captures the ethos and collective energy of the band’s live show. No Depression says, "Throw in a dash of the Grateful Dead, a pinch of the Allman Brothers, a dollop of Wet Willie, a cup of Johnny Otis, a teaspoon of The Doors, and a whole heaping of psychedelic funk and you get the wriggle on the ground, dance across the floor, hop around the hall good-time music of Hard Working Americans."

Over the summer, Hard Working Americans returned to the studio to complete its 3rd studio album set for release in 2018.

Joe Rut’s 7th album, Nekkid, finds the Oakland “Psychedelic-Americana” troubadour delivering a solo acoustic set of heartfelt, quirky, and subtly hallucinatory Americana yarns in front of a live audience.  The story behind this recording, populated with heroes, villains, and Joe’s own comically beleaguered narrator, is one of perseverance, luck, and the strength of community. VINTAGE TROUBLE is back with a brand new release, CHAPTER II available worldwide on all formats via McGhee Entertainment and Ingrooves HERE

CHAPTER II is a collection of tunes that fearlessly usher VT’s undying love for traditional rhythm and blues and rock n’ roll into collaboration with modern beats, melodies and soundscapes. This body of work introduces a combination of influences from the hip-gyrational soul dance songs of their adolescent years, to the revolutionary poetic and powerful protest music of the 60’s and 70’s, to today’s hard thumping radio jams, to the intoxicating swing and sway of the Grand Cayman Islands where they recorded it. These five songs make your body bounce and your heart swell, with tales of lasting love, lust, lessons, and loosening the reigns on life.

Illuminating the songwriting, Vintage Trouble is including acoustic / reimagined versions of all five new songs. Lead vocalist Ty Taylor says, “They’re real (traditional songs) that can be played on acoustic guitars, percussion or piano.”  CHAPTER II’s groovy dance tracks adds a one of a kind value to their accomplished rock and blues background. This collection of songs display their undeniable musical versatility in this new found fresh Vintage Trouble movement. CHAPTER II can be encapsulated by a quote by Ty’s Grandmother Zena, "You can’t start the next chapter of your life if you keep re-reading the last one.”

VINTAGE TROUBLE – Ty Taylor (vocals), Nalle Colt (guitar), Rick Barrio Dill (bass) and Richard Danielson (drums), have logged 3,000 shows across 30 countries on tour with legends such as The Rolling Stones, The Who, AC/DC, Bon Jovi and Lenny Kravitz.

With CHAPTER II  Vintage Trouble distill swaggering rock, soulful rhythm & blues grooves, and pop into a bold new sound. Produced by Jeeve (Bruno Mars, Carlos Santana), the band tracked individually for the first time, incorporating keys and horns into a soulful soundscape.

Vintage Trouble will be playing a special record release show November 15 at The Troubadour in Los Angeles. Purchase tickets HERE

DEADLAND RITUAL, featuring bassist Geezer Butler (Black Sabbath), vocalist Franky Perez (Apocalyptica, Scars on Broadway), drummer Matt Sorum (Guns N’ Roses, Velvet Revolver) and guitarist Steve Stevens (Billy Idol) has unveiled a debut track and video, “Down In Flames” (via Sonik Riot Recordings / AWAL powered by Kobalt) available HERE.

Produced by Greg Fidelman (Black Sabbath, Slipknot, Metallica), “Down In Flames” features the lush and powerful vocals of Perez, alongside Stevens’ signature thundering guitar conjugating with the hard-driving tribal rhythm section of Butler and Sorum.

Watch the official video for “Down In Flames” HERE

Drawing inspiration from the ritual symbolism of desert badlands paired with Sorum’s love of the idea of a ‘ritualistic forgotten space,’ the name Deadland Ritual felt appropriate for the darker tone of the music the group was making.  “Obviously we’ve been through some stuff,” Perez says. “If you’re being honest artistically, all the turmoil of love, loss, happiness and pain in life makes its way into the music.”

Sorum’s longtime friendships with Stevens and Perez helped to form the initial core of the lineup, but it was a pivotal moment when Butler agreed to join. Butler admits there was a lot to think about when he got the invitation. “I had to get used to the idea of starting from scratch again, which is good,” he says. “But I really liked the music I was hearing. It’s not your typical hard rock or metal stuff.”

For Stevens, it was a revelation the first time he found himself recording with Butler. “There's a lot of times in the studio as a guitar player, you get a guitar sound and you're trying to make it work, tweaking it,” Stevens says. There was none of that bullshit. It just fit against his bass sound and it was really exciting to me. I get to hear my guitar against a bass guitarist that I've idolized forever."

Sorum was determined to take things to the next level. “I wanted to get the best drum sound I’ve ever gotten, and play the best I’ve played,” says Sorum.  “I think I’ve achieved that. As a drummer I’ve morphed through a lot of decades of rock and roll.”

The initial recordings are only the beginning of what fans can expect in the coming months. The band is focused on quality vs. quantity and letting the muse carry them in the appropriate direction. With festival appearances booked and headline dates in the works, they’ll use the time leading up to that trek to continue writing and recording, releasing singles along the way and perhaps, a LP.

Deadland Ritual promises the live shows will be something special, mixing the original material with deeper cuts from their collective past. “Not the typical songs you would expect,” according to Sorum.

No egos, no bullshit. Deadland Ritual is ready to take the world by storm.

DEADLAND RITUAL 2019 DATES SO FAR:

June 14   Donnington England @ Download Festival

June 22   Clisson, France @ Hellfest Festival

Brooke White has released a brand new single “Calico” on Nevado Music / June Baby Records, and its available now via digital download and streaming services HERE.  Watch Brooke perform ‘Calico’ live on Good Day LA HERE

The Arizona-born Los Angeles-based singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, extends a warm invite to a place smack dab in the middle of Nashville and Laurel Canyon, on her new single and forthcoming album, Calico – short for “California Country.”

Landing her first big break as top 5 finalist on season 7 of American Idol, millions of viewers formed an emotional bond and welcomed her barefoot-at-the-piano style into their homes on a weekly basis.

While singer-songwriters from the golden era of the 70s attributed to her sound, it was the influence of the country legends she grew up listening to that came soaring through her vocals.

Brooke White - photo by Kate Borchart

“This album isn’t an entirely new direction for me,” says Brooke. “I’ve always blurred the country line that foreshadowed a future sound, and had it in my heart to make a country record in Nashville. But after 16 years in LA and two babies, my roots have run deep so I felt called to bloom where I was planted. I stepped away from the piano and picked up a guitar, and started writing my story at home. I found my way to a studio in Echo Park, CA with pop producers and songwriters, Eric Straube and Chris Qualls, and together we crafted the rest of “Calico” along with 11 more California country jams.  Turns out I was right where I needed to be to make the country record I’ve always wanted to make and I love it.”

The debut single and title track, ‘Calico’ encompasses the spirit of the album, with a stomping groove and sunny storytelling, punctuated by a big chant, banjo solo and handclaps.  “This is the wild, wild west."

The full-length album, Calico, will be released October 4, 2019 via Nevado Music / June Baby Records.  Pre-order album and special merch bundles HERE

The Lexington, KY quintet, lead vocalist Maggie Noelle, guitarist Gregg Erwin, drummer Todd Copeland, keyboardist Ryan Allen, and bassist John Roberts, has been packing clubs for the past three years, along with an extensive tour supporting Blues Traveler in 2019.

Central to the Magnolia Boulevard experience is a sound that flows easily and seamlessly from a multitude of stylistic tributaries. There’s plenty of blues, soul and rock ‘n’ roll in the mix, but also elements of funk, jam band, folk, country, bluegrass and psychedelia. It’s all fueled by the rhythm section’s elastic grooves, shot through with Erwin’s expressive and incisive slide guitar licks, and topped by Noelle’s soul-stirring, powerhouse vocals.

New Illusion, the band’s debut four- track EP, was produced by famed guitar maker and owner of PRS Guitars, Paul Reed Smith. “When I first heard Magnolia Boulevard, I thought ‘this band deserves a shot,’ says Smith, who discovered the band while on a trip to Lexington to conduct a guitar clinic and was so blown away that he subsequently took them under his wing. “So we flew them to the PRS Experience to begin helping them. The first time Maggie sang in my studio on ‘Sister’ after the band laid down the tracks, she nailed it on the first take. It was quite an emotional moment,” Smith recalls.

“Sister” is Magnolia Boulevard’s debut single, written by Noelle as an ode to her best friend. Perhaps the highlight of New Illusion, it stands apart from the band’s more improvisatory, jam-infused material. It’s the type of song – and Noelle is the type of singer and lyricist – that doesn’t come around very often, and that can stop you dead in your tracks on first listen.

Check out the live performance video of “Sister” HERE

Filmed during quarantine at The Burl, the legendary Lexington, KY club that Magnolia Boulevard considers “home base,” having graced its stage countless times since the band’s formation.

Singer / songwriter Shawn James has released a new album, The Guardian Collection, on Parts + Labor Records. Listen HERE

Transcending any and all genres, James’ songs speak as much to these tremulous times as they do the eternal human condition. Steeped in mythology (the fearsome a cappella which opens “Orpheus”) and America’s dark past (the deep delta blues of “Burn the Witch”),

The Guardian Collection represents James’ musical effort in stripped, acoustic form. Featuring favorites from his last album, The Dark & The Light, James’ new release features four unreleased acoustic tracks and covers, including “Like A Stone” by Audioslave and “Rake” by Townes Van Zandt.

Regarding his cover of Townes Van Zandt’s, “Rake” Shawn says, “Rake, although not one of his more popular songs, has always been my favorite by Townes Van Zandt. There’s something about the sorrowful reminiscing lyrics comparing his current self to who he was that provides context to the haunting tone and delivery of the performance that always hit me differently.”

Born and raised on the South Side of Chicago, Shawn James’ voice is a force of nature. It’s a combination of the gospel choirs he sang with as a child, and his training in classical music and opera. His timeless sound is steeped in blues legends like Robert Johnson and Son House, forever at the crossroads of damnation and redemption, the two inextricably woven into the fabric of his songs.

Magnolia Boulevard has started the new year on a high note by releasing the official music video for “Sister,” the powerful slow-burning standout from last summer’s New Illusion EP.

The Lexington, KY quintet, composed of lead vocalist Maggie Noelle, guitarist Gregg Erwin, keyboardist Ryan Allen, drummer Todd Copeland and bassist John Roberts, has been packing clubs for the past three years, along with an extensive tour supporting Blues Traveler in 2019.

“Sister” is Magnolia Boulevard’s first official music video. Says Noelle about its creation: “this video came together because the director, Jared Hamilton, who is a close friend of ours, reached out to me wondering about the story behind this personal and heartfelt song. Using Jared’s creative eye, I think we were able to convey the imagery of Sisterhood, and it came together seamlessly because the two main characters in the video are actually sisters. Everyone involved are close friends of ours, so we were grateful to have such talented individuals surround us and join in on the fun.”

Watch the official music video for “Sister” HERE.

On January 22nd, Magnolia Boulevard is set to virtually open the 9th annual She Rocks Awards ceremony, hosted by the Women’s International Music Network (WiMN), and honoring the achievements of women in the music industry.

Singer/songwriter Shawn James is releasing his new album, A Place in the Unknown February 25 on Parts & Labor Records.

Best known for his multi-octave powerful voice - a combination of the gospel choirs he sang with growing up in the South Side of Chicago, and later on his training in classical music and opera. Shawn James’ music is steeped in blues legends like Robert Johnson and Son House, forever at the crossroads of damnation and redemption, the two inextricably woven into the fabric of his songs.

“I started writing A Place in the Unknown during shutdown and throughout 2020/2021,” says Shawn. “I feel as though all the uncertainty and general feeling of not knowing what was going to happen next definitely had an effect on the lyrical content of the record as a whole.”

“In the past, I had primarily focused on writing songs with just a voice and guitar stripped down. This time, knowing I was going after a more groovy rock record, I started with the drums and beats. After choosing that, I’d then start writing and I can definitely feel the difference it had in the songwriting and flow/groove of the record as a whole. To me, there’s a sense of forward momentum in all these songs that keep it upbeat and lively.”

“Lyrically, I feel as though I leaned into a sense of not knowing and learning to be more comfortable with my “place in the unknown.”

Robert De Leo, bassist and principal songwriter of the iconic band, Stone Temple Pilots is releasing his first solo album, Lessons Learned October 21, 2022. Listen to debut single “Love Is Not Made Of Gold” HERE.

If you’ve been paying attention since the 90s, you already know that De Leo’s range was always there in the hints of sophistication sparkling beneath the surface of the sound that cemented STP’s place as one of the defining bands of their era. Now for the first time, he’s pulling back the curtain to reveal the full breadth of his range. Lessons Learned bears many shades of De Leo in his full glory as a multi-instrumentalist.

STP listeners will recognize the signature chord changes right away, with new songs like “She Brings the Rain,” “What Will Be,” and “What’ll I Do,” shifting course and ascending ever so gracefully to the upper ozone of the musical spectrum, where gorgeous hummable melodies spill over into an array of reflective moods.

“The past few years of life have revealed many changes,” says Robert. “This collection of songs represents what has transpired. The journey and gift of songwriting has played such an important role for me. It’s been a close companion throughout my life.”

Robert played virtually all the instruments on the album, complimented by guest musicians and vocalists, all of which lend to the undeniable intimacy of the music.

The debut single, “Love Is Not Made Of Gold,” features vocalist Jimmy Gnecco.

“I needed to confess my feelings on that ever so mystical word…LOVE,” says Robert. “I wanted this song to come across in such a way that really hits where it hurts.”

Listen to “Love Is Not Made Of Gold” HERE

Like so much of De Leo’s body of work, Lessons Learned is the kind of record that feels so alive in the present and instantly soundtracks the moment for the listener.

“The path of love is unknown,” Robert concludes. “Your heart leads you in many different directions. These are my lessons learned.

Artists for the Prevention of School Shootings and Youth Violence has announced a docu-concert @ City Winery in Nashville November 30, 2022 produced by In Plain View Entertainment. Proceeds will benefit Sandy Hook Promise (SHP), a national non-profit organization with a mission to educate and empower youth and adults to prevent violence in schools, homes, and communities.  SHP also advances school safety, and youth mental health at the state and federal levels through non-partisan policy and partnerships.[DL1]

Artists for the Prevention of School Shootings and Youth Violence was formed by professional musician and Sandy Hook Promise Action Fund CEO Mark Barden and film director Rick Korn to help bring awareness to school safety programs, like SHP’s Know the Signs, and other ways to keep our children safe in school - a non-partisan movement to help prevent school shootings and youth violence.

The City Winery show is part of a series of docu-concerts leading up to the release of A Father’s Promise, a feature documentary about the incredible journey of world-class musician and Sandy Hook parent, Mark Barden who survived unthinkable tragedy to become a force for change, and in doing so rediscovered his lost passion for music. The film honors the 10-year remembrance of the 26 children and educators that were taken on December 14, 2012 in our nation’s worst school shooting tragedy.

“My 3 children, James, Natalie and Daniel were very intimately connected to my music and are all musicians in their own right,”says Mark Barden, Co-Founder and CEO of Sandy Hook Promise. “For me, playing music with my children has always been indescribably powerful and joyous.  After Daniel’s murder, I was unable to find comfort in music.  Over time, and with the help and support of my family, friends and the music community, I have been able find my way back my first, real self through creating and performing music again.  This documentary project has become another way for me to connect and heal through music and honor Daniel’s life and memory.”

The Promise Band docu-concerts series is a unique and inspirating live event that mixes live performances with video content that tells Mark’s incredible journey of preventing gun violence and the healing power of music. The Promise Band (house band) led by Jimmy Vivino and Mark, includes Natalie Barden, Grammy nominated Freddie Ravel, Eric Finland, John Conte, Rich Pagano who will be joined by various artists, including Sheryl Crow, Karen Fairchild of Little Big Town, Alternate Routes, and more. Unlike traditional benefit concerts where guest artists perform a two-song set and leave, our docu-concerts spread the guest artists throughout the show playing songs of theirs (and others) that fit into the storyline. The Nashville event will be filmed and included in the A FATHER’S PROMISE documentary. Tickets on sale now and can be purchased HERE

The film tells this powerful tragedy-to-transformation story with performances from Mark's fellow musicians and friends Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks, Tim McGraw, Sheryl Crow, John Lennon, Darryl “DMC” McDaniels, Alternate Routes, Jimmy Vivino, Aztec Two Step, David Shaw, Bernie Williams, Freddie Ravel and many more, along with Mark's own soulful guitar adding a powerful musical element intertwined into the storyline.

“Mark and I created Artists for the Prevention of School Shooting and Youth Violence  to get people activated around the one cause that we all can agree on, and that is keeping our children and grandchildren safe. We want to bring awareness to parents, students, schools, and communities that there are effective non-political solutions available to them. Partnering with music artists and other celebrities enables us to deliver that message in an entertaining but effective way.” said Rick Korn director of the film.

The Harry Chapin Memorial Fund was created in 1981 with help from Harry’s former manager Ken Kragen and Kenny Rogers who donated $150,000 from a benefit concert. Elektra, Harry’s record label, also was a major donor in the beginning. Harry’s widow Sandy Chapin has led the organization from the beginning. While the name was changed to the Harry Chapin Foundation, its mission has stayed the same – to help make a positive difference in communities around the country.  Our focus is to support Community Education Programs, Arts In Education Programs and Food and Agriculture Programs. Brooklyn singer/songwriter and Grammy-nominated artist, Leslie Mendelson has released her evocative new single, “Other Girls” from her forthcoming album, After the Party. Stream/buy “Other Girls” HERE

With her enchanting voice and poignant songwriting, Mendelson crafts a distinctive folk-rock, pop-Americana flavor, evoking the sounds of Laurel Canyon, but with the downtown grit and sharp wit of Brooklyn, the city she calls home for over two decades now.

Leslie has won the hearts and minds of both an adoring fanbase and fellow artists alike. No less than Jackson Browne has declared, “Leslie’s melodies are timeless. They reach me way back in my youth somewhere. I hear traces of Burt Bacharach and Carole King, and hooks and passages that remind me of pop songs I grew up hearing on the radio.”

Her fourth studio album, After the Party was produced by the legendary Peter Asher (James Taylor, Linda Ronstadt), the young and in-demand, Tyler Chester (Sara Bareilles, Sara Watkins), and Leslie’s longtime songwriting partner, Steve McEwan. Recorded at Jackson Browne’s studio, Grove Masters in Santa Monica, CA, Leslie was joined by A-list musicians, including guitarists Waddy Wachtel and John Jorgenson, bassists Leland Sklar and Derrick Anderson, and drummers Jim Keltner and Abe Rounds.

The debut single from the forthcoming album, “Other Girls” is an intoxicating twist of aural voyeurism mixed with a healthy dose of sexual openness. It’s chorus suggestively musing “I like it, I said I like it when you talk about other girls.”

“It’s about women empowering women,” says Leslie. “Who doesn’t love women? It’s a way of looking at conventional relationships and indulging in the fantasy. A bit of commentary on the ever-changing world we live in.”

After the Party will be co-released June 21, 2024 via Pasadena Records and Royal Potato Family. Pre-order album HERE
