On June 28 - July 1, Paper Diamond, MiMOSA, Gramatik and Break Science will be playing Electric Forest Festival in Rothbury, MI. Be sure to catch each of these incredible and inventive acts, as they join the best electronic artists from around the world for this amazing weekend of beats. More information on each artist can be found below.

Colorado native Paper Diamond is the newest edition to Diplo's Mad Decent label, with his brand of music fitting in nicely with his new label mates Major Lazer, Crookers and Rusko, among many others. Paper Diamond has an extensive background is making beats that are a blend of hip-hop, bass music, electro, all with a whiff of ganja smoke blowing through it. He has a kind of raw energy and dramatic anticipation that only a seasoned producer can incite. His signature driving beats and bass grab onto you while deep, rich tones rumble under layers of spacey synthesizers, sweet melodies, and catchy vocals.

With one EP and a handful of notable remixes under his belt, Paper Diamond has been secretly amassing over 100 original songs/beats/instrumentals and is currently working with acclaimed artists, singers, rappers, and MCs all over the country. Paper Diamond's new EP Wavesight was released on Thursday May 3, 2012 on Diplo’s Mad Decent / Jeffrees imprint. The EP features three heavy hitting original tracks that further demonstrate Paper Diamond's musical versatility. His video for "Turn the Lights Off" recently premiered on MTV.

Unconcerned with a world obsessed with categorization as a means of definition, Tigran aka MiMOSA crafts music for its own sake, defying expectations with genre bending soundscapes. MiMOSA recently release his album Sanctuary on False Idol Music. The album has some incredible textures, tones and is brilliantly produced, with comparisons to Massive Attack being made. Blessed with an abundance of talent and an ear for sonic experimentation, this fan-favorite has quickly developed a name for himself as one of the West Coast’s top exports. Be sure to catch this cutting-edge, innovative and bass oriented electronic artist.

MiMOSA was recently picked on one of Spin's top 10 acts at Bonnaroo. About his performance, Spin wrote, "... his heart is in hip-hop - swag rap, bass beats and effects-riddled hyphy topped off with a little wobble for good measure. Caught up in the heady mix: a chipmunk soul sample sourced from Bollywood, synthetic textures cribbed from early house music, and a whole lot of crunched-up 8-bit glitch. The audience was, in the parlance of our times, all the way turnt up."

Hot off the tails of co-headlining the Pretty Lights Music tour with Break ScienceGramatik has continued to take his sound across the expanse of the US. With the release of his new EP #digitalfreedom in April, Gramatik has begun to evolve his sound into a more bass heavy realm, straying from the chilled out hip-hop driven beats of the past. However, Gramatik, who hails from Portoroz, Slovenia, is also concerned with pushing the political boundaries of his art. Gramatik is passionately in favor of file sharing, setting an example in himself by giving away his new EP for free. With this release, he hopes to spread awareness about the government acts that regulate the internet. It's dance music for a dignified cause.

2012 has been a busy and exciting year for Break Science. After dropping their EP Monolith Code in February, an entrancing set of tasty jamtronica tracks a la STS9, the duo embarked on a national co-headlining tour with PLM label-mate Gramatik. With a strikingly diverse track-record that includes prior collaborations with everyone from The Fugees to Wu Tang Clan, Break Science have the uncanny ability to make their spacey, languid songs transcend brilliantly from the studio to the stage.

They'll be joined onstage with Chali 2na, the MC for seminal hip-hop group Jurassic 5.

Allies For Everyone (aka singer/songwriter/producer and DJ Brian Suarez and engineer/co-arranger Arvin Ajamian) are set to release their new EP Scavenger on Kid Recordings on July 10, 2012. The four track EP serves as a follow-up to the act formerly known as Allies' 2011's EP Hour of the Wolf and includes the title track as well as “Move When I Run.”

"Allies for Everyone was a solo project of mine. I wanted to be able to do as much during live shows as I do on the studio tracks, so I asked Arvin to join me. He brings a great energy to the show, and we quickly found out we work well together offstage too. Having someone to bounce ideas off and push tracks further than I might have done solo is amazing. We are having a great time and the music just keeps getting better."
- Brian Suarez

Allies For Everyone is a startling departure into a land of lush, layered, and disturbingly infectious musical complexity, a new sound that will be a friend to both your days and nights. Allies For Everyone has that rare ability to command a dance floor while simultaneously pulling at your heart strings. It's dreamy electro pop with a wash of deep house, creating a sound that's as sultry as it is breezy. The title track "Scavenger" is made up of a driving rhythm and percolating keyboards, which underscore the tale of someone who has made an enemy out of everyone they know. "Move When I Run" has a captivating deep house bassline, with an overlay of luxurious sounding vocals.

Their live performance is an engaging aural experience, featuring Brian on vocals, keyboard, samples and effects, and Arvin on backup vocals, live arrangements, triggering, and drums. Their sound is evocative of the deep house movement that's sweeping the nation, heard through artists like Junior BoysBenoit & Sergio, Wolf + Lamb, Bag Raiders, and Jamie Jones. Comparisons have also been drawn to artists such as Pet Shop Boys, Kelley Polar and Fad Gadget, but in many ways, their sound evokes references to an array of artists without sounding like anyone in particular. It’s their penchant for slightly melancholic, introspective and melodic sounds that heavily recall the later golden age of synth-pop.

Allies For Everyone created the soundtrack for the Elle Magazine Jean Paul Gaultier Retrospective featuring Coco Rocha remixing his own "Hour of The Wolf." Earlier this year, the pair was tapped to remix fellow NYC-based electronic duo Automagic's new single "Iris" alongside Juan MacLean, Best Mate, and Richard Morel. Expect a string of live dates from the act to follow, as well as, the single release for the title track with accompanying video directed by Brian McAllister.

Pretty Lights will be previewing material from the forthcoming album on the “The Illumination Tour,” which launches with two sold-out hometown shows at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, CO on August 17 and 18. Tickets go on sale today for the remaining shows on the first leg of the headline run (August 23 – October 6) with the exception of Mobile, AL (on sale July 2) and San Francisco, CA (on sale July 13).

“The Illumination Tour” will include stops at the legendary Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles (9/15), Boston’s TD Garden (10/31) and Detroit’s Compuware Arena, where the outing wraps up on November 17. Pretty Lights will also be playing numerous festivals, including Electric Zoo in New York City on August 31, North Coast in Chicago on September 2 and CounterPoint in Atlanta on September 29. The tour will feature a wide range of support acts including DJ Shadow, 12th Planet, araabMUZIK, Marty Party, Zion I, Big Gigantic, Lotus, and more plus PLM artists, Paul Basic and SuperVision. See below for full itinerary and support acts.

“I've been hard at work on a new album for more than a year.  I've completely switched up my process of producing and composing. It is being created from all originally composed samples off of self made vinyl and all analog modular synthesis,” says Derek Vincent Smith, the innovative electronic music producer behind Pretty Lights. “It’s prolific, conceptual, consistent, yet extremely diverse, and a real substantial piece of music you can sink your teeth into. The Illumination Tour will be the place to hear (and see) a lot of what this upcoming PL release has in store."

“Smith, the mastermind behind the increasingly popular electronic music project Pretty Lights, made good on his promise to create a massive multi-sensory concert experience,” said The Oklahoman in a live review. “[He] opened his set commandingly with his pulsing, moody single ‘I Know the Truth,’ as the lights winked on in the vast LED cityscape behind him. The atmospheric urgency of the dubstep-leaning track whipped the already excitable crowd into a full frenzy.”

The Lincoln Journal Star called Pretty Lights’ show “the most impressive contemporary dance party Lincoln has seen, perhaps, ever,” noting: “Smith's a master at mixes, blending vintage funk, soul and rock sound with synthesized noise and hip-hop beat, and his elaborate show allows him and a lighting engineer to manipulate the lights to add to the mood and dynamic.”

Pretty Lights has given away more than 2.8 million free album downloads to date. For more information on Pretty Lights and Pretty Lights Music (PLM) – the record label founded by Derek Vincent Smith – visit www.prettylightsmusic.comwhere all PLM music can be downloaded for free.

Named after Greater London's own circular autobahn, the M25, and central to the early rave scene and party network in the South East during the halcyon 'daze' of Acid House, Orbital have just been announced as headliners of Decibel Festival in Seattle, WA, which will take place on September 26-30. They will be joining an incredible line-up of the best electronic talent from around the world, including the Cannabinoids feat. Erykah Badu, Carl Craig 69 Live, Kimbra, Matthew Dear, John Talabot, and many more.

Manned by brothers Phil and Paul Hartnoll and founded in the late 1980s, Orbital released a string of classic 1990s singles including "Chime," "Style," "The Box" and "Satan." Paul and Phil put their partnership on hold in 2004, but a five-year absence only increased demand for their exhilarating music and legendary live shows.

Currently, Orbital is back in the ring with Wonky, their first new album in 8 years. Following their long sabbatical, Paul and Phil Hartnoll are back on fighting-fit form and ready to reclaim the spotlight. Both timeless and contemporary, Wonky puts a vividly modern spin on their signature blend of richly melodic, deeply emotive electronica.

According to The BBC, "The time away has obviously helped re-energise the brothers into crafting this triumphant grand return."

Confident, energised and eclectic, Wonky already sounds like the duo’s finest album to date. Gleaming, whooshing, shimmering tracks like "Straight Sun" and "Stringy Acid" instantly tap into the warm-blooded rush and restless bounce of classic Orbital. These are future festival-rocking anthems in the making, right up there with vintage live favourites "Chime" and "Belfast."

But there are nods to cutting-edge club culture on Wonky too – including a guest appearance by hotly tipped Birmingham grime MC Lady Leshurr on the album’s irresistibly vibrant electro-rap title track. The Hartnolls even give a radical post-dubstep makeover to their much-loved techno-rock classic "Satan," reworking it into a razor- backed beast of shuddering bass called "Beelzedub."

London’s premiere dubstep duo Nero, which is British-born producers, remixers, DJs, and artists Dan Stephens and Joe Ray, are taking their renowned DJ set to festivals across the expanse of the US this summer. Nero recently appeared at Coachella, Sasquatch, and the Electric Daisy Carnival NYC festivals and are also set to DJ several shows on this summer’s IDentity Festival, as well as at Lollapalooza in Chicago and a perform live at Hard Summer Los Angeles in August. Please see below for all of Nero’s upcoming tour dates.

Nero's live performance sees the duo performing along with singer Alana Watson. While the pair have been DJing in the US for a few years now, last December they premiered their live show for a series of sold-out dates including Los Angeles' Music Box and New York City's Webster Hall. It is a visual led performance, which sees them performing from a custom built booth consisting of ghetto blasters, retro TVs, old amps and an arcade machine centre piece.

Nero has been touring all year in support of their debut album Welcome Reality, which was released by Cherrytree/Interscope Records in December to rave reviews from Spin, The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, Entertainment Weekly, and Billboard. With its thunderous bass, hail of house rhythms, lightning flashes of rave synths, and showers of guitar, the album “pulls dubstep toward the arena-pop spotlight without leaving its shadows behind,” as the New York Times put it in its review, while Billboard noted that Nero “comes off like a dubstep-powered pop band.”

Released in the U.K. in August 2011, Welcome Reality debuted at No. 1 and rapidly earned gold status, fueled by its singles “Innocence,” Guilt,” “Promises” (which also stormed straight to the top of the UK charts) and “Me and You,” which was the most played record on Radio 1 for three weeks in a row and is the first U.S. single from the album. The official video for the song has racked up more than 14 million plays on YouTube. Watch it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=llDikI2hTtk

Their top charting single “Promises” cracked the top 40 on the Soundscan Digital Song chart this week and the single is also featured in a new commercial for the HP dm4 Beats Edition. Watch it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SfYdpGGwFsU&feature=youtu.be

Pretty Lights Music artist Gramatik is hitting the road again, just a short couple of weeks after his summer tour ends. He'll be embarking across the US in support of Bassnectar, hitting major cities including Los Angeles, San Francisco, Portland, Detroit, New York, and many more.

In addition to touring, Gramatik recently released his new EP #digitalfreedom. With this EP, Gramatik hopes to spread awareness about the government acts that seek to regulate the internet.

This EP also represents an evolution of Gramatik's sound, as it strays from his usual chilled out hip-hop driven beats, and enters a more bass heavy realm. Good music does not just stick to one genre, and neither does Gramatik. With this EP, Gramatik wants you to open your ears to the new vibes, and embrace the versatility in his production.

On Friday, November 9, Little Feat and Leon Russell will play the Hammerstein Ballroom as part of their "What's Not to Like?" tour.

Time has loved these musical heros, as have legions of fans and countless fellow musicians. In 40 years of touring, concert-goers have been continually mesmerized by six exceptional musicians who tear it up collectively and individually, with both verve and instrumental prowess night after night. Their songs cross many genres: rock, the blues; jazz fusion; and a unique brand of southern rock with simmering acoustic interludes and a healthy dash of Cajun funk thrown in. This has all been stirred into a rich gumbo of danceable music, including hits such as “Willin,’" “Dixie Chicken,” “Fat Man in the Bathtub,” and “Oh Atlanta.”

Little Feat is known for creating one of the greatest live albums of all time, Waiting for Columbus in 1978. Throughout the years, the band remained so accomplished that they survived the loss of founding members Lowell George and Richie Hayward, and just this past summer put out their best-received CD in decades, Rooster Rag. Little Feat remains a viable force in rock, touring regularly, mixing it up nightly and continuing to produce new and vital music. This band still harnesses the passion, creativity and excitement that embodies its definitive works and remains the quintessential rock band it has always been.

Leon Russell is a music legend and one of the most accomplished and versatile musicians in the history of rock 'n roll. In his distinguished and unique 50 year career, he has played on, arranged, written and/or produced some of the best records in popular music. Leon has played on pop, rock, blues, country, bluegrass, standards, gospel, and surf records. As a session musician, arranger, producer, singer, songwriter, pianist, guitarist, record company owner, bandleader, and touring musician, he has collaborated with hundreds of artists.

Leon left Tulsa at age 17 to hit the road with Jerry Lee Lewis, played on many hit records of the ‘60s in Hollywood and in the house band of the Shindig! program on ABC. He also assembled the band for Joe Cocker’s “Mad Dogs and Englishmen” tour in 1970, then anchored George Harrison’s Concert for Bangladesh in 1971. Since then he’s worked with Willie Nelson, Bruce Hornsby (who named a son after him), Elton John, T. Bone Burnett, and Earl Scruggs, among many others. He’s written some of the greatest rock songs ever, including “Delta Lady,” “Tightrope,” and “A Song to You.” He is, after all, the Master of Space and Time.

Before Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band finish the second U.S. leg of their world tour, many of its members will attend Little Kids Rock’s 10th anniversary Right to Rock Celebration sponsored by the House of Marley and 1Love. On October 16 in New York City, Steven Van Zandt will be presented with the "Big Man of The Year Award," given annually to honor the legacy of the late, great Clarence Clemons. Van Zandt joins past honorees Lady Gaga and The Big Man himself. The event is being co-chaired by actress Maureen Van Zandt and E Street Band drummer Max Weinberg.

The gala will resemble an all-star rock and roll festival with Van Zandt performing alongside many of his musical friends, including Elvis Costello, Dion DiMucci, Tom Morello, Darlene Love, Southside Johnny, Kris Allen, Rubén Blades, Gary U.S. Bonds, Michael Des Barres, Michael Johns, Jesse Malin, Jake Clemons, NYC Hit Squad and more surprise guests expected to attend. Little Kids Rock students will join these rock legends on stage to perform along side and celebrate the joy of music. The event will be held on Tuesday, October 16 at Manhattan Center’s Hammerstein Ballroom and will run from 6:30pm until the music stops. Remaining seats may be reserved HERE.

A key part of the evening will be the live and silent auctions (opening online October 2 and concluding live at the October 16 event) featuring hard-to-find musical treasures. The funds raised by this once-in-a-lifetime musical extravaganza and unique auction will help Little Kids Rock bring the gift of music education to disadvantaged youths across the United States. They will be able to bring free lessons and instruments to over 100,000 disadvantaged public school students in 12 states.

“Putting instruments in [children’s] hands is empowering,” Van Zandt said after personally delivering guitars to Little Kids Rock students in the Bronx last year. “We’re the only country in the world that thinks that art is a luxury. It’s not a luxury; it’s a necessity of life.”

“It is a privilege to honor Steven Van Zandt,” said David Wish, Little Kids Rock’s Founder and Executive Director. “To do so with the company of the E Street Band friends and family is just thrilling.” Wish added, “Steven Van Zandt is a great artist, philanthropist and humanitarian who has provided tremendous support for Little Kids Rock students and for many people around the world. No wonder so many other artists are coming out and paying tribute to him.”

Pretty Lights - the musical vision of producer Derek Vincent Smith - will close out 2012 with four very special shows. On Friday and Saturday, December 28 and 29, Pretty Lights will play Hampton Coliseum in Hampton, VA with Bassnectar. Each artist will play both nights, with one headlining on Friday and the other headlining on Saturday. The two-night stand marks the first-ever electronic music shows at the historic venue, which has welcomed such iconic artists as Elvis, The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin and Prince over the past four decades. Tickets for the Hampton Coliseum concerts go on sale this Friday, October 19, at 10am EDT at www.ticketmaster.com.

Fans will be treated to “An Intimate Evening with Pretty Lights” on December 30 and 31 at New York City’s Roseland Ballroom. Though he has made appearances at NYC festivals such as Electric Zoo and Governor’s Ball, this will be the first Pretty Lights event in the city in over two years. Both nights will feature extended Pretty Lights sets, giving concertgoers hours of Pretty Lights classics, bangers and unreleased, new tracks in a more intimate setting. Single night or two-day passes will be available for purchase. Tickets for the Roseland Ballroom dates go on sale Friday, October 19, at 10am DT at:

 (12/30) | (12/31) | (two-day pass for 12/30 & 31)

A free MP3 download of “So Bright,” a dark and soulful track from Pretty Lights’ forthcoming album, is available now at http://plmusic.pl/sobright. The video for “So Bright,” shot at Pretty Lights’ sold-out, two-night stand at the legendary Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, CO in August, can be viewed at http://youtu.be/kkUexhDjDPU.

Pretty Lights and Skrillex have put together one of the most compelling line-ups of the festival season for their own “With Your Friends Festival,” which will take place at The Lawn at Riverfront Park in downtown Nashville on October 26 and 27. The event will feature each producer/DJ in a headliner slot with direct support from rap legend Nas, who will perform with a nine-piece band, and Santigold. Other artists include 12th Planet, Dillon Francis, Michal Menert, TOKiMONSTA, Eliot Lipp and TWO FRESH.  Visit www.withyourfriendsfest.com for additional details.

“The Illumination Tour,” Pretty Lights’ current North American headline run, will include a Halloween show at Boston’s TD Garden. The outing features a wide range of support acts including DJ Shadow, 12th Planet, araabMUZIK, Marty Party, Zion I, Big Gigantic, Lotus, and more plus PLM artists Paul Basic, SuperVision and Eliot Lipp. See below for itinerary.

Rolling Stone praised Pretty Lights’ performance at Electric Zoo in New York City, noting: “the real star on Friday was Colorado native Derek Smith, better known as the wildly unique and talented producer Pretty Lights” while The New York Times observed: “the set by Pretty Lights… slowed to a hip-hop swagger and flaunted rough tones and raspy voices.”

“Smith wowed the crowd with his Crayola-colored set of lasers and his ever-present grin of pure joy as he danced along to his own tunes,” said SPIN in a review of Pretty Lights’ show at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. “He continued to build a buzz while playing new tracks like ‘You Get High’ which grew to a fever pitch on fan favorites like ‘Finally Moving’, ‘Hot Like Sauce’ and ‘I Can See It In Your Face’, where a bevy of rainbow-colored lights illuminated Smith before fading to pitch black.”

Pretty Lights has given away more than 2.8 million free album downloads to date. For more information on Pretty Lights and Pretty Lights Music (PLM) - the record label founded by producer Derek Vincent Smith - visit www.prettylightsmusic.comwhere all PLM music can be downloaded for free.

Band of Horses will indulge each of the polar opposites of the band's musical identity - a range described in the new Rolling Stone Hot List as "pure Southern California harmonies" to "fuzz-drenched frenzy" - with a very special one-time-only two shows in one night event December 11 at New York City's Manhattan Center.

BoH's very own NYC marathon will begin with a 7:00pm special acoustic performance in the intimate confines of the Manhattan Center's Grand Ballroom, after which the band will move to the building's considerably larger Hammerstein Ballroom for a full-on electric set, with support provided by special guest Jason Lytle.

The NYC doubleheader is the latest in an ongoing frenzy of activity in the wake of the September 18 release of Mirage Rock (Brown/Columbia). Recent BoH highlights have included an appearance at the Global Citizen Festival in New York’s Central Park that concluded in an all star jam featuring the band alongside Neil Young, Foo Fighters, Black Keys and more, while upcoming events include a November UK/Europe tour, and the recently announced U.S. headline dates running from December 3 at the Michigan Theater in Ann Arbor MI through December 15 at The National in Richmond VA.

DJ Shadow, who is rightly regarded as one of the most influential and consistently innovative artists to emerge from music in the last 20 years, released four collections of his finest recordings on September 25, 2012 via UMe. DJ Shadow is known as an electronic musical pioneer and “turntable mastermind” (Pitchfork). Reconstructed: The Best Of DJ Shadow was released on one single CD and double vinyl, while Reconstructed: The Definitive DJ Shadow was issued as a multi-disc box set. Limited to 500 copies worldwide, each set is individually signed by DJ Shadow and includes 8 discs, 1 x 12” vinyl record, as well as a booklet, featuring an essay by acclaimed music writer Dave Tompkins, and numerous photos, some exclusive, by long time Shadow collaborator B+. With stunning artwork and design by Trevor Jackson, the box set is the most ambitious and comprehensive retrospective ever assembled to represent Shadow’s output. “It’s never an easy task to sum up a career in one release,” says Shadow, “but this box comes pretty close. This is the definitive, final document of the sound I’m most known for.”  The box is available exclusively from DJShadow.com.

All the music across the three formats is drawn from Shadow’s 20-year career - from the early pre-Mo Wax days, right up to the present and his most recent album, The Less You Know, The Better.  Perhaps most exciting to Shadow fans is the inclusion of two brand new tracks, including the pop masterpiece “Listen,” featuring legendary vocalist Terry Reid.

Ask anyone who’s witnessed him live and they’ll tell you that Wick-it the Instigator puts on one of the most entertaining shows you’ll ever see. Andrew “Wick-it” Owsley has been slaying the “Dirty South” with his filthy beats for the past decade and though his roots are in hip-hop, he’s quickly evolved into an eclectic producer of dubstep, trap, and moombahton alike.

Wick-it’s destructive mash-ups have earned him a reputation with acts like Bassnectar, Pretty Lights, and Z-Trip. His remix repertoire includes artists from Dr. Dre to Motley Crüe, as well as a notable mash-up that put him on the map between Big Boi and the Black Keys called The Brothers of Chico Dusty. Wick-it’s most recent full-length release, Grindhouse Basterds, is a Quentin Tarantino-themed mash-up masterpiece, featuring remixes from Aesop Rock, Ghostface, Notorious B.I.G., and more.

Check out his new single “Feel Lit” to get a taste of what to expect from his live set. Wick-it’s take on dubstep is raw and soulful with a hint of hip-hop influence. Enjoy the track and don’t forget to treat yourself with a free download as well.

Performing and producing since 2004, Wick-it’s destructive remixes and spot-on mash-ups have earned him a reputation with acts like Bassnectar, Pretty Lights, and Z-Trip. He has remixed artists from Dr. Dre to Motley Crüe as well a notable mash-up that put him on the map between Big Boi and the Black Keys called The Brothers of Chico Dusty. Wick-It’s most recent full-length release, Grindhouse Basterds, is a Quentin Tarantino themed mash-up masterpiece, featuring remixes from Aesop Rock, Ghostface, Notorious B.I.G., and more.

The majority of Wick-it's music is available for free on his SoundCloud page. With over 3,000,000 streams, 18,000 followers and more than 750,000 downloads, it is evident that people can’t get enough of the man. With successful headlining shows from coast to coast and blowout sets at festivals such as Wakarusa, Shambhala, Forecastle and Summer Camp, it is clear that the entire nation is taking note of both his live set and his behind the scenes production skills.

Paper Diamond is making quite a name for himself, and it comes as no surprise to those familiar with his endlessly creative music that the name Paper Diamond itself carries. As he simply put, “Paper Diamond draws from an origami concept in that If you have a piece of paper, whatever your diamond shape is (simple or complex), that’s YOUR art. For me musically speaking, whether it’s simple or has a lot of layers, it’s my self-expression. Paper Diamond is art".

Skill and versatility has landed Paper Diamond on stage with some of the biggest names in the game, as he has been personally selected as an opener by the iconic Bassnectar, newly-minted superstar Skrillex, EDM mainstay Pretty Lights, and now dubstep heavyweight Excision. The hip-hop community has also welcomed Paper Diamond with open arms – recent collaborator, Big Boi gave him a shout-out in Vibe Magazine, and his track “The 40 Thieves” had an exclusive premiere on Jay-Z’s Life + Times. In an interview with Life + Times, Paper Diamond said "I've been taught that music is a conversation. I personally use music to express my voice".

With his stacked schedule, heading out on a 3 month tour with Excision was not an easy decision to make at first, but Paper Diamond makes it a priority to refuse to let anyone pigeonhole his sound. While “genre-defying” is an overused word, Paper Diamond is one of the few producers who truly pulls it off, seamlessly weaving together genres as diverse as electro, trap, funk, dubstep, house, moombahton and hip-hop, all with a whiff of ganja smoke floating through it.

Fueled by this insatiable curiosity and exploration of sound, Paper Diamond is rarely in one place for long. From meeting with Big Boi in Atlanta, West Coast collaborating with The Neptunes’ Chad Hugo, hanging at Timbaland’s studio in Virginia, or working at Diplo's Mad Decent, the travels have yet to cease. At the end of the day, he’ll always land back to his Colorado home, celebrating the recent legalization of marijuana and helming the ship at his Elm and Oak label.  Blog Alt Daily recently called Paper Diamond "The Jay-Z of the EDM scene".

With so much on his plate, you couldn’t fault Paper Diamond for taking a break, he never rests -- regardless he’ll be part of not one but two New Year’s Eve celebrations - one on December 28th at Wintersalt in San Francisco with co-headliners Diplo, Theophilus London, Zedd and more, plus a huge show for New Year's Eve 2013 in Portland at Oregon Convention Center with fellow notorious party purveyors Nero (DJ set) and Kill The Noise. Then, he joins Excision on a massive spring tour which will take them across the US and Canada with over 40 dates, bringing his unique LED stage show that debuted this fall. If that’s not enough, up-and-coming electro house trio Savoy hand-selected Paper Diamond for an official remix of their forthcoming single "Under My Skin" due out December 7th on Spinnin Records.

Stay tuned for announcements on new music from Paper Diamond in the 2013!

You know DJ Muggs the hip-hop producer (platinum albums with Cypress HillHouse of Pain's smash "Jump Around"—plus a dozen stellar albums of collaborations in the Vs. series, as Soul Assassins and otherwise), the globetrotting hip-hop club DJ (spinning 100+ dates annually) and the experimental recording artist (2003 genre-defying album Dust). Take a breath and get ready for a new chapter in the Muggs story—and forget everything you thought you knew.

With Bass For Your Face (Ultra Music), the Los Angeles producer turns his considerable hard-won skills and discerning ear to dubstep, glitch, dub electronics in 10 original tracks (2 bonus tracks) featuring rising stars of hip-hop, a grime legend, a hip-hop god—but also an unknown Finnish singer discovered on SoundCloud. It's not a typical hip-hop album, or a dubstep collection for that matter. It's a 21st century hip-hop album built on futuristic dubstep production technique featuring rappers and vocalists operating on the leading edge of the underground. It's safe to say it could only exist in 2013.

Prior to the album's release today, Muggs released a series of tracks off "Bass For Your Face" as premieres leading up to the official album release. The first of which, "Trapp Assassin" premiered on HipHopDX and quickly spread across the blogosphere.

Public Enemy's Chuck D rhymes on single and bonus track "Wikid."I was trying to take the spirit, that raw PE energy and give it a futuristic twist. Chuck is one of my heroes man, I grew up on Chuck D, being educated by him and inspired by him, it's an honor to work with him. "

"Unknown" features Romy Harmony, an heretofore unknown singer from Finland. Found via a friend of Muggs on Soundcloud.com, "she basically burst into tears" when Muggs approached her about doing a track. Finding a singer like her online "makes me wonder how much undiscovered talent there was twenty years ago in some corner of the world," says Muggs.

Only time will tell how hip-hop purists accept this new DJ Muggs production. Muggs says, “This is what has inspired me to go forward and want to make music at this point. This is what I feel like doing." To be an artist and inspire the next generation, there's only one rule in the world of DJ Muggs—There are no boundaries, keep on pushing.

It's far from a safe record, but Muggs wouldn't have it any other way.

Chart-topping DJ and producer Gramatik (formerly of the Pretty Lights Music label) is adding another project to his plate, a new label simply called Lowtemp. Launching today, the imprint will focus primarily on the artist's own music as well as his friend's releases, and in the future may recruit new artists. Gramatik states "The label name Lowtemp is an abbreviation for low temperature, which implies that the label is putting out ''cool'' music. :)"

After a long and fruitful time with Pretty Lights, Gramatik states that "I'm launching my own label because that is something I always wanted to do and I think it's something that every artist eventually wants, to be fully independent and have complete creative and executive control of their own artistry. It's a natural step forward. Pretty Lights Music is family for life, but the time has come for me to do my own thing." Gramatik thanks Derek Vincent Smith (aka Pretty Lights) for helping him reach his goal faster.

In celebration of the Lowtemp launch, Gramatik is gracing our ears with a  brand-new single "Bluestep", a signature Gramatik genre clash. The cut combines the vibes of raw 50's and 60's Blues with all kinds of EDM genres - the result is what he refers to as "Bluestep". It's a dynamic mixture of Blues and Dubstep, a plethora of screaming guitar, howling vocals and big bass, capturing the raw energies of both music worlds in a cohesive, yet outrageous picture.

"Bluestep" is the first take off Gramatik's upcoming full-length album,The Age of Reason,  due out this spring on Lowtemp.  Gramatik elaborates on the epic title, which was "inspired by a stand-up segment by comedian George Carlin. He made a joke on the fact that he was Catholic until he reached the age of reason. I also firmly believe that there comes a time in a human life when you reach the so-called 'age of reason' and realize that there are so many irrational beliefs, shameless contradictions and illogical restrictions inflicted upon society. Some people reach it sooner, others later, but a majority unfortunately never do. [Through my music] I'd like to guide more people to reach the age of reason sooner. Maybe. Or, hopefully at least unite the ones that feel the same way."

Gramatik also drops his new video for "Bluestep" which features highlights from his recent tour with the worldwide King of Wobble, Bassnectar. The clip includes footage from Gramatik's performances in the US, Canada, Russia, Belgium & Austria. The debut of his mesmerizing Tesla Coil stage installation is also documented in the video.

The Coil was unveiled at Gramatik's sold-out headlining show at the The Fillmore in Colorado this past November. This stage/light design was inspired by inventor Nikola Tesla, who Gramatik holds in high regard. The Tesla Coil, one of his most famous inventions, had always fascinated Gramatik so he wanted his stage design to be inspired by it, portraying its electrifying magnificence in an abstract, theatrical fashion. The Coil adds a whole new dimension and will captivate the imagination and ignite the audience energy at Gramatik performances to come.

Age of reason or reason enough, the revolution begins now.

Locust just announced their full-length release on European electronic label Editions Mego this April 16th, entitled You'll Be Safe Forever.  The two Locust band mates Mark Van Hoen and Louis Sherman have accomplished the melding of 50 years of electronic musical history in a beautifully crafted album, with sounds evoking memories of early electronic icons like Delia Derbyshire, through to Tangerine Dream, Eno, Throbbing Gristle, LFO  and beyond. The record combines '80s industrial techno, the spoken word of underground disco, cosmic synth lines, and ambient distorted dream vocals combined with rhythmic looping drums."Strobes" is the first digital single off the new album that blurs the line between the avant-garde, dance and ambient noise with an optimistic, rollicking drum beat, groovy vocal samples, and eerie synth elements. Another standout song "Just Want You" features darkly twinkling synthesizers, and ominous, thumping percussion that guides the track along into sinister, uncharted territory. The gently pulsing electronics of "Fall For Me" combined with airy vocal samples and an almost head-banging percussion, sprinkled with soft, soothing piano melodies. "Oh Yeah" is laced with a child's whisper and huddling, frenetic percussion that feels more like a heartbeat than dance material. Sherman decribes the album as "an experience rather than a collection of songs. We made sure the whole album flowed like an evening with ebbs and flows that create a journey towards the ultimate cosmic zone at the end."The record showcases prime examples of Van Hoen's compulsively hypnotic beats and abstracted pop vocals—already hallmarks of his collected work since 1993 both in his own music and with collaborators Seefeel, Slowdive & Scala to weave a unique sonic tapestry, as inviting as it is intricate. Paired with Sherman's evocative synthesizer improvisations—an immediately visceral element new to Locust—this new partnership has crafted a shattered landscape that bridges two perspectives of progressive movement in electronic music under a single name. "Working with Mark was magic from the first note." says Sherman. "We had written most of the record in just one session improvising." The album was primarily written in Louis Sherman's studio in Bushwick, Brooklyn and completed in Van Hoen's studio in Woodstock, New York. Sherman, an American from Baltimore, comes to the band armed with a vast knowledge of the history of electronic music. This, combined with Londoner Mark Van Hoen’s known musical pedigree, and production expertise maps the complete topography of a landscape...The overall effect of You'll Be Safe Forever seems to promise the contrary -- not unlike a haunting dream that wakes you up to a different reality, shrouded in an almost spectral haze. The tracks are instrumental but there are voices everywhere, cut up and tweaked or stretched out, leaving echoes of silence. The overall result, Van Hoen says of the album, is that "the music is more emotional than academic". Locust's new release You'll Be Safe Forever makes you question what you're hearing and feeling all at once. The result is something unquestioningly, mind-bendingly beautiful.Locust will be playing  at the Editions Mego special event at the De La Warr Pavilion in the UK this May 11, alongside Luc Ferrari, Kevin Drumm, Mark Fell, Fennesz and more (full details here).

In an effort to save the universe from eminent doom, five Brooklyn-based producers were summoned by seven mysterious babes from outer space. Sent by powers unknown to save the galaxy from annihilation, the babes projected visions in the minds of the producers. They must now join forces to interpret these visions through sound as EXTRAORDINARY MAGNITUDE.

About the Remix:

It's one of the instrumental songs on the upcoming album "Proportions" mashed up with "No Diggity" acapella. "We thought No Diggity worked really good together so we decided to drop it as a remix. The instrumental version is a completely original song and will be featured on the album," Gramatik says of the project.

"They Can't Tell Me Nothing" is the first single from Boulder based - genre defying Paper Diamond's forthcoming EP 'Paragon' set to be released April 16th 2013. Paragon will feature a range of production, instrumentation, and collaborators all weaved into Paper Diamond's signature style.  During the past two months, while on tour with Excision, Paper Diamond has been dropping the new single which has caused crowds to get all railed up into a frenzy. According to Paper Diamond, "It's one of the rowdiest parts of the show." The single features original verses from Texas rapper J Fresh, and for the next two months, you can expect several more leaks, songs, and releases from Paper Diamond leading up to the release next month!

"They Can't Tell Me Nothing" exlusively premiered on This Song is Sick, who boasts,"This has all the signs of being a festival anthem. The song starts with a peculiar stabbing synth that sets the mood of the track. It builds more energy and drop in some chopped up rapping adding the perfect touch. The drop hits and doesn’t let up, then bringing in the eerie synths once more."

In less than 10 hours, "They Can't Tell Me Nothing" had already received over 15,000 downloads.   Other blog favorties are picking up on it quick, Electrojams comments,"Neverone to rely too heavily on a single style of EDM, the Colorado-based DJ has started to put out some serious trap tracks and  this is his best one yet. The song is packed with hard beats and a solid rhythm that lends itself easily to dancing, especially when the drop comes and the song gets downright rowdy. With all of the trap songs coming out lately, Paper Diamond manages to stay fresh by seamlessly blending the genre with his heavier dubstep style that we’ve all come to know and love." EDM Sauce claims, “They Can’t Tell Me Nothing” is a splendid bass music track that has been mastered to perfection."

Paper Diamond continues his nationwide tour with Excision.

Moog Music is excited to announce its new partnership with Paxahau, the Detroit based producer of the Movement Electronic Music Festival and Detroit Jazzfest. The two companies are coming together to co-produce Moogfest 2014 taking place April 25 - 27, 2014 in Asheville, North Carolina. Moogfest is the annual festival created by Moog that celebrates the innovative spirit of its founder, Dr. Bob Moog.

The iconic synthesizer manufacturer has been quietly re-tooling its 9-year strong festival, including designing a new logo, to better reflect Moog’s culture of creativity, technology, and musical innovation. Mike Adams, President of Moog Music, has always been committed to keeping the festival in Asheville, but wanted to see it evolve. "We set out to find a new partner with a real understanding of the dynamic history of electronic music, and that has a deep appreciation for the impact Bob Moog's inventions have had on musical expression and creation. After working with them for three years on their festival in Detroit, we knew Paxahau was the right choice to help us take Moogfest 2014 in the direction we envision," said Adams.

In its fifteenth year as a production and promotions organization, Paxahau has become a recognizable name throughout the industry, most notably through their production of Detroit’s legendary Movement Electronic Music Festival.

We are excited to be a part of Moogfest and its tradition of honoring the legacy of Bob Moog.  We’ve developed a great relationship with our friends at Moog Music over the years and look forward to working with everyone in the Asheville community as we progress towards Moogfest 2014,” said Jason Huvaere, President of Paxahau.

The new springtime dates for Moogfest 2014 allow for daytime programming in which the intersection of music and technology will be showcased against the backdrop of the beautiful Blue Ridge mountains. "Moogfest is not just about Moog or music, it's about celebrating the creative, forward-thinking spirit of both Bob and the city of Asheville. We'll shine a light on inventors, new media artists, circuit benders, programmers, and people with ideas that could change the way we experience music, art and performance." said Emmy Parker, Moog's Senior Brand Manager.  The additional programming will compliment Moogfest's tradition of leading edge musical performances from a line-up that pays homage to the early pioneers of electronic music, established giants and the artists pushing musical expression forward today.

Bob Moog recognized that Asheville was a uniquely supportive community for people with new ideas. “Dr. Moog was the ultimate inventor-entrepreneur and he chose Asheville as the home pf Moog Music for a reason. He was a beloved member of our community and Moogfest is the perfect event to highlight Asheville as a hotbed for entrepreneurs in our area that are developing groundbreaking technologies,” said Pam Lewis, Director of Entrepreneurship, Asheville Economic Development Coalition.

This is a special year for Bob Moog, as it was announced last week that he is being inducted into The Inventors Hall of Fame in May. "It's amazing to have Bob's achievements recognized on a wider scale. Moogfest is a way for us to invite a larger community to celebrate him and others like him, that push creative expression forward" added Parker.

Past Moogfest performers include Keith Emerson, Orbital, Thomas Dolby, M83, Massive Attack, Tangerine Dream, Amon Tobin, St. Vincent, Richie Hawtin, Squarepusher, Bernie Worrell, Flying Lotus, The Flaming Lips, Terry Riley, Richard Devine, Rodelius, Hot Chip, and many others.

His old-school fans will be sure to vibe with this cut since it fuses Paper Diamond's signature bouncy electronic beats with hip-hop vibes for an epically fresh, anthemic banger..Paragon will feature a range of production, instrumentation, and collaborators all weaved into Paper Diamond's signature style.  While “genre-defying” is an overused word, Paper Diamond is one of those rare artists who truly pulls it off, seamlessly weaving together genres as diverse as electro, funk, dubstep, house, moombahton and hip-hop. During the past two months, while on tour with Excision, Paper Diamond has been dropping some of the new songs on stage, including another single "They Can't Tell Me Nothing" which has caused crowds to get all railed up into a frenzy. According to Paper Diamond, "It's one of the rowdiest parts of the show." The single features original verses from Texas rapper J Fresh. A few weeks back, Paper Diamond exclusively partnered with This Song Is Sick who offered up this first tasty sampler and boasted, "This has all the signs of being a festival anthem. The song starts with a peculiar stabbing synth that sets the mood of the track. As he simply put, “Paper Diamond draws from an origami concept in that If you have a piece of paper, whatever your diamond shape is (simple or complex), that’s YOUR art. For me musically speaking, whether it’s simple or has a lot of layers, it’s my self-expression. Paper Diamond is art".Skill and versatility has landed Paper Diamond on stage with some of the biggest names in the game, as he has been personally selected as an opener by the iconic Bassnectar, newly-minted superstar Skrillex, EDM mainstay Pretty Lights, and now dubstep heavyweight Excision. The hip-hop community has also welcomed Paper Diamond with open arms – recent collaborator, Big Boi gave him a shout-out in Vibe Magazine, and his track “The 40 Thieves” had an exclusive premiere on Jay-Z’Life + Times. Legend DJ Muggs continues to keep it rap game  - his volatile new video "Wikid" (featuring Chuck D) premiered yesterday on Rolling Stone. Of the video DJ Muggs says, "We harnessed the energy of Public Enemy and Cypress Hill with futuristic sounds and the aggression and vocal delivery with one of the greatest MCs ever, Mr. Chuck D."

The legendary Cypress Hill producer DJ Muggs is on fire -this past January he released his critically acclaimed beat-savvy album on Ultra Music. Along with Chuck D, Muggs' latest features hip-hop heavyweights Freddie Gibbs, Danny Brown and U.K. MC Dizzee Rascal. He just wrapped up a national tour with Modestep, and MiM0SA joined up on the west coast dates to achieve massive sonic destruction. The Bass For Your Face Tour served up enough bass-heavy soundscapes and dirt-nasty drops to satiate every single EDM fix across the nation. But the smoke hasn't settled just yet...be on the lookout for even more new music from this multi-talented artist who is killing the game in 2013.

"DJ Muggs’ crucial role as the aural orchestrator behind one of rap’s most successful collectives, Cypress Hill, is a feat that’s unmatched by few. His production approach—full of ominous sample licks and attacking drums—gave birth to a lineage of grimy, analog soundscapes. Muggs continues to reinvent his musical wheels,  producing an electronic music-driven project...a unique culmination of multiple genres reinterpreted through Muggs’ hip-hop vision."- XXL

It’s the week following Memorial Day weekend and the smell of summer is in the air. The young Grammy Award Nominated Swedish DJ and Producer, Adrian Lux just kicked off his US tour dates which included main stage peformances at both Ultra Music Fest and Coachella, and this week, following his play at Chicago’s EDC, he drops “Damaged,” his first commercial release of 2013 and the new single from his forthcoming sophomore album on Ultra Music.

For many, the name Adrian Lux will be synonymous with his breakout hit from 2010, ‘Teenage Crime’, a bona fide smash, which exceeded platinum sales in Australia and appeared on Swedish House Mafia's debut album, Until One. Not only did it rocket to top the Dance Charts through out the world, it also went large in club-land thanks to Adrian’s skillful mastery with vast melodies. But that’s not all he’s widely known for.

Carving himself a distinct, amazing sound, Damaged yet again shows us Adrian Lux is anything but slowing down. Lux says of the forthcoming material, "I have been locking myself in the studio trying to make new interesting sounds that are representative of me, instead of looking on what's going on in the music world I have really just tried to find the inspiration within myself."

From his first acclaimed singles "Strawberry" and "Can't Sleep" and his remixes for artists from Britney Spears to Natalia Kills, and Roger Sanchez to the TRON soundtrack, Miami Horror, and PNAU, everything has been leading up to what first evinced his daring diversity.

Orchestrated in true Adrian Lux fashion, Damaged delivers on all levels one would expect. On Damaged, the former punk rock guitarist continues to showcase his personal and powerful distillation of dance, house, pop, and indie into one undeniable sound. Lux says, "On the new album I have been working with some really interesting, talented people who inspire me daily. There will be a great bit of organic depth in the music, something I feel is very important to me to be creating that special feeling I love."  With that said, Damaged, features the irresistible, bittersweet vocals of Alva Tång and  the post-punk Cure-like rhythm guitar courtesy of Nico Malmstedt, together these elements glide on ethereal harmonies, heavenly production that drive the song’s infectious hook into one momentous, neat, sexy, sleek package that is destined to pack dance floors around the globe.

Adrian says today that he’s very excited for this one, ”I’m moving things in a new direction!!”  These are true words indeed, especially since Lux has now relocated to Los Angeles, setting his sites on playing live on festival stages and in club land through out the US this summer including EDC Las Vegas plus a residency at the premiere Vegas nightclub Surrender. He’ll also be strutting his stuff in NYC, Chicago, SF, Houston and more.  There's nothing quite like experiencing Lux live. He's toured the U.S. supporting Tiësto, and he's garnered support from David Guetta, Avicii, Max Vangeli, Ferry Corsten, and countless others. Once he hits the stage, you can feel why as you'll hear a lot of styles you wouldn’t expect, “I like to get crowds to go crazy by hearing and seeing something they've never experienced."

The same can be said for his music. It's unlike anything out there in the electronic dance music scene. "I'm trying to do something new," he concludes. "I'd love for audiences to get something fresh and personal from it. If they have a good time and walk away smiling, I'm happy."

Electro hip-hop producer SuperVision has been working hard to step up his production game with his latest EP release, Telekinetic out June 4th via Pretty Lights Music (PLM).With a background on turntables spanning over 16 years, the Dallas, Texas native paired his love of collecting music with harder hitting drums, advanced effects, fills, builds, drops, heavier sub bass, and texturized synth bass. The end result is an EP of superior production quality and musical vision. On Telekinetic, SuperVision picked premiere samples he uncovered while crate-digging all over the country during tour. "Ancient Souls" introduces sampling that could only be used with his newfound production techniques. "Until The Last Hours" has multiple samples from 70's country vinyl dug up at Bill's Records in Dallas, but the production remains completely electro hip hop. This record has heavy sub bass throughout, but "Play It Funky" is the truly the hardest hitting and will likely be an audience favorite.Download Telekinetic HERE on the Pretty Lights Music website.

Alex Botwin, better known as Paper Diamond, is a one of a kind artist who brings his own unique music to the table, a sound unparalleled to anything else around today. As he simply put, "Paper Diamond draws from an origami concept in that if you have a piece of paper, whatever your diamond shape is (simple or complex), that's YOUR art. For me musically speaking, whether it's simple or has a lot of layers, it's my self-expression. Paper Diamond is art". His aw inspiring musical creativity has landed him a spot working with labels including Pretty Lights Music and Diplo's Mad Decent. While using a variety of production techniques that incorporate stirring bass driven beats with catchy vocals and melodies, his distinctive work with synthesizers constantly create smooth moving hits.

As the summer festival season sets in full swing, Paper Diamond continues to turn heads across the nation with debut appearances at Bonnaroo, The Governors Ball and HARD Summer Fest. Never failing to impress a crowd with his energetic, passionately driven shows, and what a better time to see him than following the release of Paragon. The 11 track EP features artists ProtohypeGavin Turke, and Cherub among others. These collaborative efforts support his cross over appeal and showcases his signature sound – art. Having the ability to produce any genre and make it his own is the perfect portrayal of Paper Diamond's eclectic style and a distinctive experience with literally NO RULES.

Paper Diamond's very excited to be joining Zed’s Dead on the Altered States tour as they have always played incredible shows together. Other artists playing on the tour include legendary Hip Hop DJ Green Lantern, and New York producer Branchez. Featuring a lineup promised to please a wide-variety of listeners, Zed’s Dead delves into the tour's concept: "We all play different styles of music, so the idea is that your mood and 'STATE of consciousness' will be ALTERED throughout the night. We're going to take you all on a journey."

Gramatik announces part two of the infamous Age Of Reason Tour and unleashes the second single off his forthcoming album, The Age Of Reason. The brand-new single titled, "You Don't Understand" features guitarist Don Daro of Exmag; who will also be joining Gramatik on tour this fall.

In hype of the upcoming album, Gramatik explains how he differs from the vast majority of electronic musicians as he records using live instruments while striving to make dance music that tells a story. During a recent interview with Relix Magazine, he states,

"There's a lot of guitar, bass, piano, all types of organs, lots of original vocals - more than any other record I've ever produced. [The Age of Reason] combines all the genres I've been producing since the beginning in the most drastic, neurotic, cohesive and outrageous way imaginable."

The second single sticks to Gramatik's signature jazzy style featuring a down-low melodic touch with a smooth transition into an ever-so dramatic dub-heavy drop. If you're diggin' the track, stay tuned, the single will be available as a free download. And for those heading to Camp Bisco this weekend, be sure to catch him this Satuday, July 13.

Moogfest is a celebration that honors the creativity and inventiveness of Moog Music founder Dr. Robert Moog, and pays tribute to the legacy of the analog synthesizer. For over 50 years, Bob Moog and his company Moog Music have pioneered technology that has advanced popular music and culture, and ushered in a new era of artistic expression through sound and experimentation. It was in this very spirit that Moogfest was born. Now featuring an experimental lineup of daytime conference programming, curated by a soon-to-be-announced lineup of cultural, artistic and technological luminaries, and punctuated by nightly landmark music performances, Moogfest is a five-day event dedicated to the convergence of technology, art and music.Since its inception in 2004, Moogfest has been a magnet for artists, engineers, and enthusiasts of Bob Moog and his legacy to meet, share, create and collaborate. When Moog brought the festival home to Asheville in 2008 it adopted a three-day multi-stage format to include contemporary bands and producers that exemplify the innovative spirit of Moog and electronic music. This year, Moogfest is further expanding its program to include a five-day innovation conference featuring leading futurist thinkers, inventors, entrepreneurs, designers, engineers, artists, and musicians from various fields that will expand the mind as well as entertain."We have evolved our thinking to create an event that truly celebrates the pioneering spirit of Bob Moog; uniting art, music, and innovative technology to explore the dimensions of creative expression. Break Science is beyond excited about the release of their new album, Seven Bridges on the Pretty Lights Music (PLM) record label; now available as a free download on the Pretty Lights Music website. To celebrate their album release, Break Science hits the road this week to play Official Pretty Lights Analog Future Tour After Parties. This is the first full-length album for the duo, and it perfectly showcases the range of their creative vision and stylistic evolution. Seven Bridges will shake venues and clubs to their core, not only with ultra deep subsonic basslines, but with emotionally powerful lyrics, and a soulful message of evolution, integration, and positivity in the face of hardship. The name of the album is very much aligned with its intention, to "bridge gaps" between the past & present, the present & future, and between influence and imagination.Raised and influenced by the rhythm and culture of New York City, Adam Deitch and Borahm Lee fuse generations of the city's rich musical legacy with their own deep-rooted connection to hip-hop heritage. Merging their production styles seamlessly, the duo creates a refreshingly original take on hip-hop, better described as electro hip-hop bass music. The live show transcends audiences’ expectations with Borahm’s seasoned trip-hop/dub/soul vibes on keys, as well as his advanced live production techniques, and Adam's thunderous & flavorful breakbeat style on the drums.Break Science has been electrifying the festival circuit this year with packed dates across the country, including huge plays at Electric Zoo, Electric Forest, Spring Awakening, Detroit Movement, BUKU, Summer Camp, Bounce, Camp Bisco, Hornings Hideout, Summer Meltdown and KahBang festivals, as well as raising $8,000 for flood victims in Colorado by throwing a show at the last minute when their show at the legendary Red Rocks Amphitheater with Lotus was cancelled due to flooding. See below for upcoming fall tour dates as Break Science travels across the States playing mind moving, body bending after parties while on tour with label mate/founder Pretty Lights.

Tickets are on sale now at http://xgames.com/tickets. On the cusp of their headlining performance at Austin's X Games alongside Metallica and Nicki Minaj, The Glitch Mob release their new single "Better Hide, Better Run (ft. Mark Johns)," from their forthcoming 3-track EP 'Piece of the Indestructible,' out June 9 on The Glitch Mob's Glass Air imprint.

Inspired by the notion that music can make you feel indestructible and allow for transcending limitations (for example, read the story of Grant Korgan), ‘Piece of the Indestructible’ is a mix of the stadium-ready style of their recent releases and the more spacey, introspective vibe of their first album Drink The Sea.

“This EP emerged from a period of soul searching about our own music and music itself,” say The Glitch Mob. “We realized that music arms people against the dangers, trials, and ups and downs of life. It’s like a force field. It’s badass, but not merely for the sake of just being tough. There’s a purpose there.”

Featuring sultry vocals from Moving Castle collective member Mark Johns, lead single “Better Hide, Better Run” takes the classic Glitch Mob sound into the future with its powerful tribal rock-infused electro style. The EP is rounded out by two forthcoming tracks, the intensely cinematic opener "Head Full of Shadows" and the more ethereal closer "The Clouds Breathe For You."

Leaders from Durham’s civic organizations, cultural institutions, government and business announced earlier today that Moogfest – the internationally acclaimed festival of music, art and technology -- will debut in Durham May 2016. This announcement signals a long-term commitment by festival organizers, reinforcing the exploding technology scene and culture of innovation in the Triangle. The three-day event will run from May 19-22, 2016. A limited number of Early Bird tickets are now available at Moogfest.com for $99.00.

“Moogfest is a platform for conversation and experimentation with innovative programming that perfectly mirrors Durham’s momentum as a capital of technology, culture and entertainment,” says Emmy Parker, Brand Director at Moog Music.

Moogfest has been a festival of electronic music since 2004, known for presenting performances by early pioneers in electronic music, alongside pop and avant garde experimentalists of today. Previous Moogfest performers include Kraftwerk, Brian Eno, Chic, Massive Attack, Holly Herndon, Flying Lotus, Terry Riley, M83, The Flaming Lips, Suicide, Pet Shop Boys, Grimes, TV On The Radio, MIA, St. Vincent, Tangerine Dream, Keith Emerson, Moderat and Squarepusher.

In celebration of today’s announcement, Moogfest releases “Translational Drifts: Moogfest Vol. 1,” the first EP in a series of free digital recordings that feature Moogfest artists - past, present and future. Volume 1 showcases five contemporary acts reinterpreting seminal electronic music influencers that have shaped past Moogfest lineups. This premiere installment includes YACHT, ADULT., Julianna Barwick, Moses Sumney and Dan Deacon translating tracks by Devo, Pet Shop Boys, Suicide, Laurie Anderson and Brian Eno. Their renditions pay tribute to a rich history of electronic music, with new sounds that continue to push further into the future.

YACHT, a contributor and previous Moogfest curator, praises the company behind the collaboration, “We love how Moog brings artists together. The sound of the machines and the culture of the company are like a bridge across genres and generations.”

Over the last several years, the festival has evolved to include a mind-expanding conference for creative and technology professionals. In 2014, Moogfest worked with designers and technologists at Google, researchers from the MIT Media Lab, editors from Make Magazine and organizers from the Eyeo Festival (among others) to present panels, workshops and demos at the forefront of art and technology. Presentations by music pioneers Giorgio Moroder, Nile Rodgers, Janelle Monae, and Keith Emerson were accompanied by conversations with inventors and electronic instrument designers Roger Linn and Tom Oberheim, plus Futurama creator David X Cohen. Moogfest also commissioned “Moogfest: Conductar”, a virtual reality app, nominated for two Webby Awards. Moogfest is already developing new programming and plans to bring similar exciting partnerships to Durham in 2016.

The festival’s priority remains a focus on intimate venues for performance and conversation, encouraging the same ambience established in Asheville. Moogfest will activate many of Durham’s downtown event venues and public spaces with a mix of ticketed and free community programming.

Moogfest is a tribute to Dr. Robert Moog and the profound influence his inventions have had on how we hear the world. Over the last sixty years, Bob Moog and Moog Music have pioneered the analog synthesizer and other technology tools for artists. This exchange between engineer and musician is celebrated with a unique festival format, where the creative process is understood as a collaboration among many people, across time and space, in commerce and culture.

Tue, 02/09/2016 - 9:15 am

Grimes and Miike Snow will join more than 250 of the world’s most forward-thinking musicians, artists, and technologists -- from GZA, Gary Numan, and Blood Orange to virtual-reality pioneer Jaron Lanier, transhumanist visionary Dr. Martine Rothblatt, and cyborg activist Neil Harbisson – for Moogfest 2016.

Initial roster of artists and innovators that will be collaborating with Moogfest on art installations, exhibits, discussions, and workshops includes Research Triangle Park, MIT Media Lab, Google, IDEO, EYEO, Gray Area Art & Technology Center, NEW INC at The New Museum, Duke University, IBM’s DJ Watson, Burt’s Bees, and Kickstarter.

Hailed by The New York Times for “its mom-and-pop technosophy and its insistence on immersive experiences in small, comfortable spaces,” Moogfest stands out from other festivals thanks to a distinctive format where many headlining artists not only perform in the evening, but also join conversations and lead participatory workshops during the day. By putting a premium on experimentation, collaboration, multi-night residencies, and newly commissioned work, Moogfest is an incubator for world-premiere and one-time-only performances and art installations that festival-goers will not experience anywhere else.

Evening headline performances by synth-pop auteur, Grimes; avant pop trio, Miike Snow; and sets by Black Madonna, invigorating a Moogfest dance floor with her singular blend of Chicago house, techno and disco; Skepta, UK’s king of grime, bringing his much-lauded A/V show; Health and their onslaught of epic noise rock; the electro-pop savvy dance tunes of Bob Moses; Patricia with a live performance of techno produced on eurorack modular synths; Eyes Low for that home-grown, hard, and dirty brand of North Carolina dance music; and artists Morton Subotnik and Sarah Davachi join Alessandro Cortini and Suzanne Ciani in a special concert to celebrate the pioneering work of Don Buchla.

Daytime performances will include Erika Anderson, the performer known as EMA, headlining one of the Durationals (a daily series of extended performances co-presented by experimental video label Undervolt & C), while Grammy Award-nominee tAz Arnold will lead a guided music meditation at Duke University’s Nasher Museum of Art.

Launched in 2013 by Pittsburgh-based nonprofit Thrill Mill, Inc., Pittsburgh’s Thrival Innovation + Music Festival is an annual weeklong event that showcases the former industrial juggernaut’s resurgence as a dynamic tech and creative hub.

Running September 20-24, the festival features multiple days of immersive, innovation-focused programming, capped by a diverse two-day outdoor live music experience with world renowned talent. Thrival musical headliners include CHVRCHES, Thievery Corporation, Metric, and Lettuce with additional acts to be announced. Former headliners include Panic! At the Disco, RJD2, Raekwon and Ghostface Killah, Wale, Moby, Portugal. The Man, and more.

Thrival Innovation programs will explore three themes: AuthentiCity, The Ripple Effect, and Lost and Found.

AuthentiCIty speaks to the complexities of Pittsburgh’s rising status as one of the most livable cities in the U.S., as well as America’s top food town and other accolades.

Thrival executive producer, Dan Law, explains, “Recently, Pittsburgh finds itself on a number of ‘top’ lists, but so much of our city remains undiscovered to a broader audience. The festival offers that unique opportunity to witness why Pittsburgh is a modern comeback story.”

The city’s tech boom has been a driving force in its comeback narrative attracting industry stalwarts like Google, Apple, Facebook, and Uber. However, Thrival’s Ripple Effect theme also explores the smaller ideas that eventually lead to big impacts emerging outside of the tech giants’ umbrellas — particularly within the realm of startups and entrepreneurship.

The festival’s third theme, Lost and Found is an examination of rediscovered industries and skillsets that are shaping our modern economy — a theme embodied by the landmark venue anchoring the weekend music experience, the Carrie Furnaces. This national historic landmark was once a part of the historic Homestead Steel Works.

Following a successful and acclaimed debut in Durham, Moogfest announced it will return to Durham in 2017, May 18-22. Organizers confirmed that the festival drew over 7,000 ticketed attendees and an average of 3,000 people attending free programming each, for a total count of almost 40,000 attendees over the four days.

Reflecting that fans are eager to experience more of Moogfest’s cutting edge mix of music, technology and art, over 1200 tickets for next year’s event were sold within the past two days!

”We measure success by the strength of our community as we make long-term plans for our future in Durham. We are humbled and proud to have this overwhelming show of support,” said Adam Katz, Moogfest CEO. “We are so thankful to all the talent and partners that made this festival possible. The staff and crew went above and beyond to deliver a world-class program. We are excited to begin thinking about making Moogfest even better."

Highlights of Moogfest 2016 included:

  • Performances by over 100 of the world’s top music artists including Grimes, ODESZA, GZA, Laurie Anderson, Gary Numan, Reggie Watts, Miike Snow, Blood Orange, The Orb,  and even an 8-hour, overnight “sleep” concert by Robert Rich where the audience slept in a theater of beds.

  • Large-scale, interactive art installations that delighted crowds by allowing them create their own sonic experiences, remix a song by headliner Grimes, or experience the hum of Burt’s Bees hives like never before.

London-based sister act, Bloom Twins, have unveiled their new single ‘Amnesia,' to be taken from their forthcoming debut LP due out later this year. The track, a perfect example of the girls’ dark pop, that serves up haunting dual vocals set against an electro backbone.

The track was produced by one of London’s best-kept secrets, UK songwriter, musician and producer Anthony Marshall who has worked with some of the biggest and brightest stars who have shaped today’s musical landscape. His impressive resume includes a diversity of superstars - Britney Spears, Jennifer Lopez, Simply Red, Pet Shop Boys, K-Ci and JoJo, Craig David, to name a few.

The sound that has emerged is an intoxicating mix, shaped by their unusual background and perspective, crossing over several genres of music. They fuse stylish electronica with haunting melodies, delivered in their distinctive vocal style, and embellished with the sound of the flute, harmonica and piano, creating truly modern results.

Throughout 2014 Bloom Twins continued to build their online presence releasing a string of new songs and videos, which generated big social media attention. They also performed at a series of exclusive live events from The Great Escape to Hermes’s Flaneur Experience in London, Heart Ibiza, the Summer Series at Somerset House, and the iconic Ronnie Scotts.

They finished the year as the opening act for Duran Duran on their Paper Gods UK arena tour, which included a stunning performance at The O2 in London.  Duran Duran’s Nick Rhodes  was so impressed by the twins that he has produced the majority of their forthcoming debut album.

Since then, fashion titles including Vogue, Wonderland and Hunger have heralded them further along with Bloom Twins being named as one of MTV’s Artist Of The Week

Ahead of that album release, "Amnesia," shows that Bloom Twins have fulfilled their early promise and are set to be one of the most exciting new artists on the pop scene.

Emerging in late 2012 with a sound that was all his own, Tor’s debut album Drum Therapy was the culmination of over a decade of quietly honing his craft. Now over 3 years since his debut, the Vancouver-based experimental producer returns with his sophomore album Blue Book, set for release today June 3rd, on Emancipator's Loci Records

"I've been working on Blue Book over the past 2 and a half years - it took a long time to push through creative dry spells and the weight of my own expectations after my first album. I wanted to get outside my comfort zone and try new sounds and I learned a lot about my creative process along the way. It's definitely a snapshot of who I was while making it and i think you can hear that changing as the album plays through. To me it represents getting back in touch with my creative side in a big way after years of looking for purpose, and what it means to dedicate yourself to an unconventional life." - Tor

Blue Book serves as the perfect follow up to his debut album - a natural evolution of the best qualities of his previous work, while pushing his sound forward with new sonic palettes, ideas and tempos. Named after a childhood drawing book, the album references a raw creative time in Tor’s life with the theme of reconnecting with that part of him after years of looking for purpose. It’s a record that plays like a journey from start to nish, with rhythmic bell patterns, chopped vocal harmonies, atmospheric swells, warm basslines, and a newfound love of analog synthesizers all taking his songs to new levels, and establishes that Tor is an artist whose trajectory will be exciting to follow for years to come.

After catching the attention of Emancipator, Tor's debut album, Drum Therapy, became the first release for the all-new Loci Records. Even though Tor’s background had been strictly studio- based, he quickly found footing in the touring world supporting established acts like Emancipator & Bluetech on national U.S. tours, performing at multiple festivals such as Shambhala, BassCoast, What The Festival & Burning Man, in addition to remixing artists like ODESZA.

Tracklist:

1. Intro

2. Two Suns

3. Loop Therapy

4. Days Gone

5. Myth

6. Aeris

7. Vaults

8. Cymbol

9. Sunyata

10. Aura Love

The party will go around the clock this September as the Thrival Innovation + Music Festival announces its official after party schedule. Thrival Innovation + Music Festival is an annual event featuring multiple days of interactive, interdisciplinary, innovation-focused programming capped by a two-day outdoor live music experience, this year's music highlights include diverse performances by The Chainsmokers, CHVRCHES, Thievery Corp, Metric, Ty Dollar $ign, Hudson Mohawke, Lettuce, Sir The Baptist+ many others.

Festival coordinators determined four respective locations for its official after parties located on Pittsburgh’s North and South Sides as host sites, as the James Street Gastropub and Speakeasy, Alphabet City, the Mattress Factory, and the Rex Theater welcome festival attendees for late night festivities.

A blend of historic sites, new developments, and established Pittsburgh venues are the focus for this year, according to festival organizers. The after parties also serve as fundraisers for host sites, or partner nonprofits and their programming initiatives, as weeknight party entry fees are solely a “bring-what-you-can” donation. The weekend after show tickets range from $15 to $25, respectively.

“Whether it’s a 50 cent or 50-dollar donation, we want to make sure the entire community can come and enjoy the evening parties. They’ll be fantastic events and a lot of fun — but not financially out of reach for anyone,” says Dan Law, Thrival executive producer.

Tuesday night takes attendees over to a local music scene favorite, the James Street Gastropub and Speakeasy — with donations going to the nonprofit Radiant Hall. Music acts include the Anton DeFade Trio, Thrival 2015 alumnus Courtesy, as well as local indie-folk favorite, Ferdinand the Bull.

Wednesday’s late night party sets down at Alphabet City[1]  (a recently redeveloped Masonic Temple). An initiative of City of Asylum, a Pittsburgh-based nonprofit serving as a sanctuary for endangered literary writers, Alphabet City soon opens its doors to the public, with the weeknight Thrival after party serving as one of the spaces first public events. JENESIS Magazine artist, DJ Gianni Carter, and alternative funk act Chupacabra are scheduled to perform. Donations support City of Asylum and its mission.[2] Prior to these music acts will be an exclusive sneak preview of Generation Startup, a documentary featuring the journeys of 6 young entrepreneurs in the highly selective Venture for America program.

On Thursday, September 21, Phil Hartnoll, one half of legendary electronic act Orbital, spins at the Mattress Factory alongside veteran DJ and producer, King Britt, and dance remix mastermind, Tommie Sunshine. The event will be a warm up for upcoming 40th anniversary celebrations for the installation art museum, as well as donation drive for a new James Turrell installation piece, “Skyspace.” The world-renowned light artist recently donated designs (valued at $1 million) to the Mattress Factory to begin the as-of-now unfunded installation process.

On Friday and Saturday night, after shows kick off on Pittsburgh’s South Side jam/funk stalwart location, the Rex Theater — which features bass music producer/DJ, Buku, on Friday, and California psychedelic rock band, Chris Robinson and the Brotherhood, on Saturday night.

RSVPs for weeknight after parties are available now online at thrivalfestival.com. Tickets for the official Thrival after shows are available at rextheater.com.

Behind every great album lies an unheard story. Now, as the sun sets on 2016, Portland's very own Emancipator shares the story of his debut album, "Soon It Will Be Cold Enough" through his latest release: a double-sided EP titled "Maps & Father King."

"Ten years ago, I released "Soon It Will Be Cold Enough" on CD-Rs, biking to the post office a few times a week to send out whatever orders trickled in through the Paypal address I had posted on Myspace. Somehow it reached the ears of iconic Japanese hip-hop producer Nujabes and was released on his label, Hydeout Productions. In addition to giving the album a professional mixdown, Nujabes suggested a new tracklist that omitted two songs, "Maps" and "Father King." - Emancipator

Emancipator will be releasing the special "Maps & Father King" EP on 11/11. While long time fans may recognize the tracks as staples from Emancipator's live sets, the release on his very own Loci Records imprint brings fresh cuts in the form of remixes from Star SlingerKodak To GraphCatching Flies, and Imagined Herbal Flows.

“As a special nod to the ten year anniversary of my first album and these two lost tracks, which are still dear to me and many of my listeners, I'll be releasing a special 'Maps & Father King' EP on November 11th with both tracks remastered and remixed by four different producers. I'm very excited to give new life to these songs in the form of this special release.” - Emancipator

Full Tracklist:

Side A:

Emancipator - Maps

Emancipator - Maps (Star Slinger Sunrise Edit)

Emancipator - Maps (Kodak to Graph Remix)

Side B:

Emancipator - Father King

Emancipator - Father King (Catching Flies Remix)

Emancipator - Father King (Imagined Herbal Flows Remix)

A search for mind immersing, spine tingling tracks would land many stumbling upon Emancipator. Between the countless tour dates, festivals, and studio time, Emancipator (aka Doug Appling); the Portland, OR based electronic producer, has retained a steady rise of success. With a catalog of four full length original albums and a steady well curated roster for his imprint, Loci Records, this young entrepreneur shows no signs of slowing down. Known for its etheric melodies, immaculately smooth arrangement, and addictive drum beats, Emancipator’s music has captivated a diverse audience across the globe.

You need to be made of  stone to brave the open road as a touring musician. One not so precious stone is ruby. Scottish singer-songwriter Lesley Rankine is ruby.

After beginning her career as the lead singer/provocateur of seminal UK noise-band Silverfish, where she coined the now infamous slrubogan - “Hips Tits Lips Power” and making her mark as an early member of Pigface, the loose knit industrial noise super-group with Trent Reznor, Skinny Puppy’s Ohgr, Paul Raven of Killing Joke, and Martin Atkins of PiL, Rankine created her solo project, ruby and released material via labels such as Creation, Witchita, and Sony.

Known for not only mixing up genres, The LA Times made this observation during a live performance;"Lesley Rankine put a twist on the in-your-face cliches of contemporary rock: Fronting her band, ruby, she seemed to want us to be in her face. When not lilting out lines detailing hard lessons of sexual politics--damaged but wiser--the Scottish singer stood unblinkingly with mouth agape, twitching her head or unconsciously wagging her tongue, practically demanding to be seen and heard. And it worked."

With a personal inviation from Martin Atikins to open for Pigface's 25 year anniversary gala, a one time performance at House of Blues in Chicago this Black Friday and equipped with a new EP in hand, Rankine is becoming reaquainted with US shores and taking her one woman show on the road.

Live, the ruby sound is produced using a plethora of electronic instruments, with cigar-box guitar, FX boxes and home-made, circuit-bending gadgets. Something akin to spending the evening in a 21st century version of Caractacus Pott’s shed, the tone of the show lilts and staggers between raucous noise-mongering and emotive, delicate melody, usually punctuated with warts-n’-all dialog and stories from Rankine with her off-piste, strictly adult humour and of course all snarls, glares and Quasimodo grimaces.

ruby’s first release was the acclaimed electronic-downtempo-trip hop album "Salt Peter", a classic of the mid '90's alternative & dance music scenes. The album was recorded entirely digitally - a method that was still very innovative at that time. "Salt Peter" & the follow-up "Short-Staffed at the Gene Pool" were remixed by the likes of Primal Scream, Gilles Peterson, Danny Saber, the Mekons, Mira Calix, Conor Oberst. While ruby continued to tour through the early 2000s, her next official release didn't come until a decade later.

In 2013 Lesley made a long-awaited return from self-imposed hibernation with her first new music in over a decade. The sparse, melancholic and hypnotic first salvo from her new collection was the title track “Waiting For Light”, which showcased Rankine’s dark, soft and emotive vocals. The full album of the same name followed in 2014, independently released, and partly funded by a very successful Pledgemusic campaign. The critical acclaim that resulted was definitive proof of ruby's return.

ruby is playing live at intimate venues this November and December.

To our global community of artists, technologists, futurists, and activists. Once again, we are stunned by discriminatory politics in our beloved home of North Carolina and across the U.S. Last March, North Carolina state legislature passed House Bill 2, which eliminated anti-discrimination protections for all lesbians, gays, and bisexuals, and barred transgender people from using bathrooms that do not match the gender they were born with. Moogfest took an immediate stand against the law, reaffirmed our commitment to protest inequality, and offered a safe space for all artists, fans, and visitors who attended. This past December, despite the ongoing work of our community and our allies, lawmakers failed to repeal the law.

Now, as we prepare for the 2017 festival, we are faced with new and mounting concerns. Lawmakers in Texas, South Dakota, Virginia and Kansas have taken steps toward enacting laws similar to HB2. And in his first few days in office, the 45th president has taken actions, such as the travel ban, that threaten our foundational beliefs and intimidate members of our diverse global network of thinkers and makers. But we are not afraid. We are not hateful. We are alive in our mission to bring the dream of a more equal society to all humans. We seek out facts, respect evidence-based science, and welcome a wide-open worldview. We believe this base of knowledge powers creativity, imagination, and innovation.

We stand with the millions who marched on January 21st in cities around the world for the rights of women. We fiercely support the march’s mission of standing “together, recognizing that defending the most marginalized among us is defending all of us.” We also stand with those who have been continuing to protest over the last few weeks. The intersectionality of those participating in these protests makes it clear that we cannot turn inwards, and we cannot exist solely for the individual. As said by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. while behind bars for protesting in Birmingham, AL, “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.”

We are inspired by this movement and the spirit of those that came before it. The fight against inequality echoes our own mission to design radical instruments for change and reflects the legacy of Bob Moog, the visionary behind Moogfest who vehemently believed that true innovation comes through collaboration, not exclusion. Moogfest is transformed, by the urgency of our times, and we invite you to keep marching with us into the future.

Write to North Carolina politicians to share your love for the people of our state and your strong opposition to HB2 and other discriminatory laws. You can write your own or use this form from Equality NC or this form from Democracy.io

Support the work of our allies at the ACLU of North Carolina and in other states around the country.

Join us at Moogfest 2017 and attend the Synthesize Love march, a protest celebration to open the festival. Click here to learn more.

The Damned blazed a trail when they became the very first British punk band to release a single, the mighty “New Rose,” on October 22nd 1976, which was swiftly followed by the release of the very first British punk album, their classic debut long-player ‘Damned Damned Damned,’ originally released by a nascent Stiff Records on February 18th 1977. Now, to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the band’s dramatic breakthrough, BMG will release a very special Art Of The Album deluxe edition of that incredible debut album on February 17th, almost exactly 40 years to the day since its original issue.

Formed in 1976, The Damned really need no introduction…  As well as releasing the first ever British punk single and album, they also broke further new ground as the first UK punk act to tour America. The Damned still receive their dues in the US, where they are often cited as a major influence on many future rock acts, including bastions of the nascent US hardcore scene such as Black Flag and Bad Brains plus heavy metal heavyweights such as Green DayThe Offspring and Guns ’N’ Roses (the LA rockers acknowledged the debt when they covered “New Rose” on their 1993 album ‘The Spaghetti Incident’).

In the recording studio (Pathway Studios) alongside producer Nick Lowe in late 1976, the band – David Vanian (vocals), Captain Sensible (bass), Brian James (guitar) and Rat Scabies (drums) - produced an alchemic, heady new British rock sound; a menacing mix of tough New York punk rock (chief songwriter Brian James was an early-adopter with a passion for The Ramones that quickly fed through to his bandmates) and Detroit sleaze - the album ends with a cover of The Stooges’ “1970,” here renamed “I Feel Alright”.  These predominantly American influences were mixed with a subtle flourish of late-60s British psychedelia and a dash of gothic Hammer Horror for good measure (perhaps inspired by frontman David Vanian’s pre-punk career as a grave-digger?), already pointing to acclaimed future directions for the band.  The album was neatly spearheaded by a brace of classic punk singles in the aforementioned “New Rose” and the blistering follow-up “Neat Neat Neat”.  As the album’s sleeve famously (and correctly) states, this is music; “Made to be played loud at low volume”!

Now, almost exactly four decades to the day later and with the band still selling-out venues right across the world, The Damned’s hugely influential classic debut is celebrated here in BMG’s new ‘Art of The Album’ series, featuring fully remastered audio and new sleevenotes within both the CD & LP formats recalling the story of the band’s conception and the album’s creation.  Comprehensively researched and written by legendary punk writer John Ingham, these new sleevenotes cover in-depth the story of the album & the period in which it was written & recorded, the key players in its creation, the craft and instrumentation, the impact upon release and its legacy 40 years later. Via exclusive interviews with original band members Dave Vanian, Captain Sensible, Brian James and Rat Scabies, John Ingham (best known for writing the first ever review of The Damned and the first ever interview with The Sex Pistols - both in UK music weekly ‘Sounds’ in 1976) is perfectly placed to recount the early hedonistic days of the band in this definitive release of one of the most influential albums of all time.

In the age of immediacy, accessibility, streaming and a la carte downloads, the concept of an album or long player has become somewhat lost. ‘The Art of The Album is a new series looking to refocus the attention on the album as a format.  With a collection of seminal and classic LPs, the Art of The Album series will celebrate albums that broke new ground in concept, production, song writing and genre, leaving a lasting legacy as a complete album work of art.

This year, for the very first time, Moogfest will partner with SXSW on a day-long program in Austin, TX. With the recent news that Texas lawmakers have proposed legislation similar to HB2, the festival will bring its signature Future Thought and Future Sound experience to SXSW for an exploration of diversity and inclusion. The daytime program includes a Future Thought conversation called OUR DIVERSE FUTURE: Optimism Alongside Discrimination, from NC to TX featuring thought-leaders paving the future across various disciplines as well as a performative Installation by The Holladay Brothers. The nighttime Future Sound portion of the event will feature performances from various electronic artists, some which will be performing at Moogfest 2017 including Suzanne Ciani, Russell E.L. Butler, and Professor Toon.

In addition to the Future Thought Future Sound programming, Moogfest will present a pop-up version of its popular electronic bazaar, the Modular Marketplace. The interactive shop will showcase select instrument makers including Moog Music, Future Retro, Rare Waves, and Switched On. SXSW Festival Programmer Jes Elliott acknowledges that, "SXSW and Moogfest share similar DNA with a deep interest in promoting discovery and convergence. We’re very pleased to have Moogfest return for another year of conversation and music surrounding the intersection of pioneering music and technology."

Now in its 11th iteration, Moogfest remains committed to growing a global community of futurists who explore emerging sound technologies and design radical instruments for change. Since last year, the festival has been based in Durham, North Carolina, alongside a booming technology scene, at the center of the famed Research Triangle. By day, the festival explores Future Thought---a daytime series of presentations, conversations, workshops and installations. By night, Moogfest celebrates ‘Future Sound’ with nighttime performances by early pioneers in electronic music, alongside pop and avant garde experimentalists. In 2016, Moogfest welcomed 40,000 attendees from 22 countries and 41 states (with 5.6 million livestream viewers), despite boycotts and corporate divestment after HB2, the controversial ‘bathroom bill’.

SXSW dedicates itself to helping creative people achieve their goals. Founded in 1987 in Austin, Texas, SXSW is best known for its conference and festivals that celebrate the convergence of the interactive, film, and music industries. SXSW proves that the most unexpected discoveries happen when diverse topics and people come together.

More details on the Moogfest x SXSW event will be revealed soon. To receive updates and join the global conversation, sign up here: https://goo.gl/14MDMI.

Moogfest will reveal its Music Line-up and Program Highlights on March 7.

Tue, 03/07/2017 - 9:40 am

Today, Moogfest reveals its lineup of musical performers, led by Flying Lotus, Animal Collective, Gotye, Suzanne Ciani, Derrick May, 808 State, Simian Mobile Disco, Syrinx, Jessy Lanza, and Function. Building on the experimental format of previous years, Moogfest continues to integrate Future Sound (performances) and Future Thought (conference) programming, with many of these artists also leading sessions during the daytime conference program.

Moogfest’s trademark mix of intimate venues and masterful collaborations creates an unforgettable experience festival-goers will not find anywhere else. Experimental electronic and avant-garde dance music is complemented by thematic programming like Black Quantum Futurism, Protest, and Techno-Shamanism that span day-into-night. This year returns with adventurous formats such as live film scores, an overnight live music sleep concert, prelude to sleep listening parties, long-form durational performances, and presentations by leading Instrument Designers.

Moogfest has also invited artists including Gotye and Peanut Butter Wolf to help honor some of the innovative musicians we lost in 2016, including Jean-Jacques Perrey, Pauline Oliveros, Bernie Worrell and Keith Emerson. This 2017 lineup reinforces Moogfest’s commitment to bold experimentation, with some of the most important musicians and thinkers of our day helping to blur the lines between audience and artist, conversation and collaboration, technology and creativity.

Today Moogfest announces their last and final additions to the 2017 festival, rounding out an already impressive lineup with DJ Premier, Zola Jesus, King Britt, Jana Hunter, Baltra, IDEO, Modular on the Spot, and Durham music collective The Floor. This announcement builds on Moogfest’s trajectory: balancing Future Sound (performances) and Future Thought (conference) conversations and workshops, with artists and technologists who participate in both sides of the program.

Grammy-award winning producer and half of the legendary hip hop duo Gang Starr, DJ Premier will grace the stage at this year’s festival. Premiere’s prized productions have threaded through the decades, defining the sound of multiple generations of hip-hop. Always evolving yet timeless, celebrated rappers and lyricists from KRS-One to Kanye West, have called on Premier to create the sonic foundation for their voices.

Dark wave electronic artist Zola Jesus is set to perform from her unreleased 5th studio album, TAIGA. Described by the artist herself, “The music on the record is massive, with big brass and beats, crystal clear vocals.” King Britt has prepared a Moogfest exclusive part live part DJ (hybrid set) fusing his mastery in track selection with live hardware electronics including two Mother-32s, while NYC-based producer Baltra will perform a DJ set showcasing his expertise of gritty underground techno productions.

Moogfest is proud to invite select 2016 participants to return this year, but has prompted them to contribute in entirely new ways. Last year award-winning design firm IDEO created a much-talked about sound installation. This year, they return to Moogfest with a host of top-tier minds in a workshop series that explores creative confidence, rapid prototyping and future narrative through the making of speculative sound machines. Last year, Moogfest alum Jana Hunter (Lower Dens) hosted a conversation with Laurie Anderson. This year she hosts a late-night DJ set. Modular on the Spot founders Eric (Rodent) Cheslak and Bana Haffar bring back their unique environment-specific outdoor eurorack synthesizer performances to downtown Durham.

Last year, the best underground after-party at Moogfest was organized by The Floor, a local collective known for amplifying the talents of regional DJs. For the 2017 festival, Moogfest organizers have partnered with The Floor to curate a lineup including DJ Bosslady, Andrius, Sound Resurgence, Ladyfingers, 3ZKL, and Strider -- talent that is all local to North Carolina.

Today’s announcement also includes 6 additions to the festival’s film program --  Tony Conrad: Completely in the Present which examines the pioneering work and life of the artist Tony Conard;Tomorrow: Travel the World of Solutions a in-depth documentary exploring solutions to climate change from around the world; Two films led by Moogfest 2017 artist Zena Loxton SpeakUP: The Power of Lyrics, which follows the life of a group of creative activists, hip hop artists, and journalists who came together in 2012 to create a revolution through music in Senegal and SpeakUP: Women of Africa, which looks at Grammy-winner Angelique Kidjo journey in Dakar as she passionately meets young female artists, inspiring them to continue using their work as a platform for social change; Transfiguration, an official selection at the Cannes Film Festival, scored by Moogfest 2017 performer Pharmakon, which follows a troubled teens fascination with vampire lore; and Life in Waves, a film which explores Suzanne Ciani’s pioneering work through her eyes.

The full list of participants announced today is as follows: DJ Premier, Zola Jesus, King Britt, Jana Hunter, Baltra, IDEO, Modular on the Spot, DJ Bosslady, Andrius, Sound Resurgence, Lady Fingers, 3ZKL, Strider, Virginia Tech ICAT, ONO, Brandon Stosuy, Elliot Inman, Johnny Turpin, Krista Anne, Fannie Mae, Frankie Hutchinson, Hisham Bharoocha, Joseph Murray, Marshall King, Valencia Wood, Elizabeth Traina, Zena Loxton, Jessica Collette, Raj Bhakta, Senator Jaiz, Give a Beat, Armida Ascano, Pierce Freelon, and films Tony Conrad: Completely in the Present, Tomorrow: Travel the World of Solutions, SpeakUP: The Power of Lyrics, and SpeakUP: Women of Africa, Transfiguration, and Life in Waves.

With their extraordinarily epic and artful musical poetry, Maud Geffray and Sébastien Chenut – the two sonic warheads who make up the electronic music group Scratch Massive - have always been able to enrich sensory experience in a way that brings together the fringe and the extremes, the here and there, the past and the future, with a never-disappointing desire to express the blues of the soul and the blues of the world.

The Parisian /L.A DJ/producer duo has made its mark with icy grooves and epic productions, a perfectly-executed musical path that has led it to become one of the driving forces of French electronic music of the last 20 years.

After the dark and melancholic convulsions of its studio album Nuit de rêve, Scratch Massive invites us to intimately explore new heights through the sublime images and existential travels of a moved teenager in Los Angeles presented in Junior – the new project series of director Zoe Cassavetes.

This intense musical duo has undertaken a veritable revolution, giving body and soul to their latest project. Recorded under the Los Angeles sun at Atwater Studios, Junior is a troubling and enraptured vision of The California Dream - the one that always seems to slip away at the last moment from under the feet of Logan, the film’s disappointed heroine. On this album, Scratch Massive trades in (temporarily?) its somber ways and the dark beauty of its electronic odes for a new pop sensibility nourished by the grand air of the Pacific Ocean and the frenetic rhythm of a city that never sleeps.

From the wide-eyed pop song “JUNIOR” that opens the album, the new wave mirages that inspire the superb Shame, A journey In Truth, Ready For The night , the Philipp Glass mood’s of “Walking Down” and the infectious magic of “Standing by My Door”” (an electro-pop hit carried by the irresistible voice of Maud Geffray (half of Scratch Massive),extract of her forthcoming album solo :POLAR. Junior brings together an elegant, out-of-control bacchanal evoking dreams snuffed out by the stark realism of the daily grind, shady sunsets reflecting undetectable fears too heavy to bear. Could this be the sound of California Dreamin’ under modernity’s magnifying glass?

Quite simply, with Junior, Scratch Massive has made a modern electronic album, perfectly at ease with the influence of pop, as a way to revisit and reexamine its clichés, its stylistic effects, and the hungry nostalgia for the 1980s.

Moogfest came into orbit yesterday kicking off a sequence of events to our 4 days of synthesizing music, art, and technology. You could feel the electricity stirring in the air as people began to trickle into Durham. Beginning early in the day the Moog Pop-Up factory began building the Subsequent 37 CV synthesizer that debuted at the festival. The conjoined rooms at the Power Plant Gallery hosted an array of various synthesizers and manufacturers in the Modular Marketplace.

The day moved into Future Thought, hosting workshops, discussions, experiential art installations, and further electric activity. Highlights included Moor Mother entrancing an audience with her durational performance, Talib Kweli engaging in conversation with David Graham (The Atlantic) over the nature of media in the age of the Trump administration, and S1’s workshops demystifying the powers and learning of synthesis .

On into the evening, things started to boom with our Future Sound series programming. The focal point of the night took place at Motorco Park hosting our ode to Protest. Multi-faceted artist Mykki Blanco, prolific Syrian born singer Omar Souleyman, rap game legend Talib Kweli, and triangle area punk band Pie Face Girls took the stage in full force. Comedian Hannibal Buress made a surprise appearance to introduce Talib Kweli, and will be staying through the weekend to moderate conversations with Animal Collective & Syrinx and Flying Lotus. Over at the Armory, UK underground techno legends 808 State played their first show in over 20 years, filling the room with breakbeats and winding bass to move to. Avalon Emerson was the perfect follow-up.

We're pleased to announce that techno originator Juan Atkins has joined the Moogfest lineup tonight to replace Thomas Dolby, who unfortunately fell ill yesterday and had to cancel his highly anticipated appearances. We wish Thomas godspeed toward his complete recovery.

Juan will perform in Thomas's previously scheduled slot at the Carolina Theatre, 8:00 to 9:15 p.m. before GAS. We're looking forward to this formidable one-two punch of techno masters.

Single-day passes are available here.

Moogfest kicked off on Thursday, April 25 with a stellar array of opening night performances and the announcement of the new Moog Matriarch. The day and night featured several outstanding conversations and performances. Here are a few highlights.

A Place to Bury Strangers took music fans on an extended sonic journey with a long-form durational. Matthew Dear performed live at the Armory and spun platters that matter at the Fruit Co. Kimbra wowed audiences at the Armory and Stephan Bodzin had the walls vibrating later with a blistering techno set. Craig Leon and William Basinski mesmerized audiences with captivating ambient performances at the Carolina Theatre. Ela Minus had Pinhook bopping and Quarterhorse hosted a trifecta of local DJ collectives featuring Mamis and the Papis, the Conjure, and Party Illegal.

Day two kept the vibes flowing with a conversation between Depeche Mode’s Martin Gore and Mute Records’ Daniel Miller and the presentation of the Moog Innovation Award to Martin Gore. Additional conversations included Kimbra, Tim Hecker, William Basinski, Craig Leon and Kelly Moran. Performances included Dorit Chrysler, Lucrecia Dalt, Tim Hecker & the Konoyo Ensemble, The Field, Jlin, Mount Kimbie, Richard Devine, the sleep concert with William Basinski, and DJ sets by Daniel Miller and Arabian Prince of N.W.A.
