Dates for the Summer Camp Music Festival 20th Anniversary have been rescheduled to take place Memorial Day Weekend 2021. Organizers had remained hopeful that Illinois would enter into Phase 5 of the Restore Illinois Plan, however due to the recent spike in cases nationwide, they have determined that it is no longer safe to hold the event this year.

Read the official statement from founder Ian Goldberg below:

Dear Summer Camp Family,

We have held out with hope against hope that things would begin to get better in this ongoing fight against the novel coronavirus. With strong leadership here in Illinois, we have been making progress. All of the metrics have been trending in the right direction, and we were encouraged with the Governor moving up the opening of outdoor patios and restaurant service to Phase 3 and then moving ahead with opening Phase 4 of the Restore Illinois Plan. However, in the face of the national spike we are now experiencing, along with the lack of leadership and coherent response on a national level, it is clear that Illinois will not be in Phase 5 and we will not be able to safely host Summer Camp Music Festival this August.

As much as it pains us to miss this year, that was to have been our 20th Anniversary celebration, we of course hold the health and safety of you, our fans, and our dedicated staff as our number one concern. So it is with a heavy heart that we again announce the postponement of our 20th anniversary celebration to Memorial Day Weekend of 2021. We are still working out details with some artists, but we are very happy to announce that we have already confirmed most of our headliners and the vast majority of our lineup are coming along with us. We will have an announcement with the full artists lineup soon. Rest assured, all the excitement we put together for our 20th anniversary will be fulfilled in 2021!!

We look forward to celebrating with all of you May 28-30, 2021! If you already have purchased tickets you need do nothing. All current tickets will roll over and be valid for the 2021 event. This is good for all ticket types including Volunteer Deposits, VIP, RV’s, Pre-Party, etc.

We understand that some of you currently holding tickets unfortunately may not be able to make it in 2021 or may be unsure at this time. As such, refunds will be made available beginning on Monday, July 13th and continue through July 31, 2020. An email will be sent to all ticket holders on Monday explaining the procedure to complete by July 31st in order to refund your purchase.

I want to thank our amazing staff, and in particular the Camp Counselors and marketing team, that have worked diligently through these unprecedented circumstances to try and keep spirits high during such trying times. It has not been easy to communicate where things stand in the midst of a constantly changing situation. I know there are some who have been unhappy with our response and the lack of answers we have been able to provide about what was happening up until this point. All I can say is that we did our best to give the information we had, and I take personal responsibility for any mistakes that were made.

These have been challenging times and we have had to make very tough decisions with no roadmap to follow. I had sincerely hoped that things would work out differently and that we would all be able to gather once again to celebrate our 20th anniversary, albeit late, this year. I chose to hold onto optimism until the science and data proved beyond a doubt it was not possible. I felt I was acting in the best interest of the many people who dedicate their lives to this event every year, knowing all along I would never put those lives in jeopardy if the situation did not prove to allow for a safe event. Sadly that turned out to be the case.

We still face a lot of challenges to get through this and to be able to come together again safely in 2021. Know that I consider this my solemn duty and I will continue to make the best choices I can to make sure that happens. I may make mistakes, as I may have up to now, but if I do so it is with that goal in my heart.

I sincerely thank all of you for continuing to support this dream we have all made a reality together. I know that with all of that support we will be able to overcome all obstacles to celebrate together again even bigger and better in 2021.

Much Love

Ian Goldberg

“Summer Camp Family, We miss you all. We haven’t been away from you and Three Sisters Park for this long since Summer Camp Music Festival began in 2000. One thing is certain, our 20th Anniversary is going to be the best celebration we could dream of after all this time apart... It’s going to be truly special.

At this time, due to the ongoing circumstances surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, we have decided to reschedule Summer Camp Music Festival 2021 to take place over the weekend of August 20-22, 2021, with the pre-party taking place Thursday, August 19th. We realize that Memorial Day Weekend isn’t going to be feasible, but we’re excited to look towards the future and gather once again in late August to celebrate life, love, and music. We are again happy to say that the vast majority of our lineup is able to join us in August for our 20th anniversary celebration. We will be releasing an updated lineup soon so stay tuned for more information on that, as well as details on refunds for any current ticket holders who will not be able to celebrate with us in August.

For all you SCampers who are holding tickets, we sincerely thank you. Your support means the world to us as we navigate these difficult times. All current tickets will be honored for the new dates, therefore you need do nothing to change your tickets. And again, once we are able to finalize all details, we will announce all artists making the move with us and will provide information on refunds for those patrons who are not able to make the new dates.

Keep your Summer Camp spirit alive, we’ll see you again…”

More details on additional artists and activities are set to be announced in the coming weeks. All tickets will be automatically rolled over to the new dates, and information on refunds will be announced soon.

Organizers confirm the future date with additional news that a limited amount of Early Bird Tickets for #SCamp23 will be made available this Friday, November 4th at 10am CT.

These discounted tickets go on sale prior to any major artist announcement, though fans can expect regular co-host bands moe. and Umphrey’s McGee to resume their headlining positions. With the release of an animated video on social media, fans have been given the first tease of what is to come in 2023. This gives both loyal SCampers  and rookie attendees a chance to get the cheapest ticket possible.  In addition to Early Bird 3-Day GA Passes fans will also be able to purchase Pre-Party Passes, VIP Upgrades, and RV / Car Camping Spots. All ticketing options will have payment plans available to spread their purchase across multiple affordable payments leading up to May 2023.

Fans will have the opportunity to experience 150+ artists across multiple stages over their Memorial Day Weekend. In addition to the music there are many aspects of Summer Camp Music Festival that build a sense of community including the experiential art area - The Illumination Woods, the Field Day games, workshops, food & craft vendors from around the country, a permanent garden dedicated to increasing knowledge of sustainability and permaculture - SOULPATCH, and the Soulshine Experience which promotes fans to get involved in all of these aspects beyond the music.

An important message from the Producer of Summer Camp Music Festival, about the future of the festival, and hints at a new event starting Memorial Day Weekend 2024 at Three Sisters Park in Chillicothe, IL - presented by Summer Camp.

“Hello Summer Camp Family,

I am writing to share some important news with you in advance of this year’s 22nd Summer Camp Music Festival.

Over two decades ago in 2001, I founded and started producing this special event. So very much has changed with the festival landscape since then, but we've endured and persevered at every turn. Twenty three years of memories have included challenges, victories and everything in between.

The good news  is that our tradition of gathering every Memorial Day Weekend at Three Sisters Park will continue. However, due to various factors, Summer Camp Music Festival as we’ve all come to know it will be taking a hiatus. Again, the good news is that we still plan on throwing a redefined camping & music experience at Three Sisters Park every Memorial Day starting in 2024 that will be presented by Summer Camp. The challenges of throwing a mid size independent music festival in the face of the big corporate festivals as competition both for fans and for artists, along with the logistical challenges (especially post pandemic) of throwing an event of this size in a small market in Central Illinois have had us reevaluating what we do for awhile now. But reimagining Summer Camp had its own challenges, we could not figure how to scale back the event in a way that would feel true to everything Summer Camp Music Festival has come to be. Cutting pieces of it felt like leaving our children behind. So we decided it was time to put the Summer Camp Music Festival to rest. For now. We will be announcing more details on the new event after this year's festival, but it will likely include certain elements that long-time SCampers will find very familiar. Most importantly we have cherished our long relationships with our host bands, moe. and Umphrey’s McGee and we look forward to what the future may hold with this new event.

So, this 2023 rendition of the Summer Camp Music Festival next week is going to be insanely meaningful for myself and everyone coming to join us. Let's celebrate together like we never have before as we close this chapter of what once was, and anticipate what the future holds together!

As a kid from Pekin IL, who just really liked throwing parties for a living, I could have never dreamed we would create something like this community. It is all because of you beautiful people, and how your spirit of love and happiness permeates these grounds, online, and in your own world's back home year after year. I am forever grateful and appreciate your support as always.

Much Love,
Ian Goldberg”
