Stacy Mitchhart is set to release his new album No Rhyme or Reason on April 17th. Order here. The latest single, “Sure Looks Good To Me,” featuring Gretchen Wilson, is out now. Listen here.
After more than three decades of electrifying audiences with his soulful guitar work, commanding voice, and deeply rooted songwriting, Mitchhart returns with what may be the most fully realized album of his career. His 17th release, No Rhyme or Reason, was produced by GRAMMY® winner Tom Hambridge (Buddy Guy, George Thorogood, Susan Tedeschi) and features guest appearances from Kenny Neal and Charlie Musselwhite.
The album’s standout duet, “Sure Looks Good To Me,” pairs Mitchhart with Wilson in a collaboration years in the making. “Gretchen and I have talked about recording together since she was a waitress at the Bourbon Street Blues and Boogie Bar in 1996,” Mitchhart recalls. “She used to get up and sit in with us.” Best known for her country hits, Wilson brings a gritty, roadhouse edge to the track.
Recorded largely on Nashville’s storied Music Row, the album showcases Mitchhart’s range across several standout tracks. “Bad As You” leans into sharp-edged commentary on human nature, while “Good One Time” delivers swaggering guitars, organ, and horns beneath a raw vocal captured in just a few takes. On “Mean Bad Wrong,” Kenny Neal adds a deep New Orleans feel, fulfilling a longtime goal for Mitchhart to record together.
Originally from Cincinnati, Mitchhart emerged in the early ’90s as a standout on the regional blues circuit before relocating to Nashville in 1996. There, he became a fixture at the Bourbon Street Blues and Boogie Bar, where his high-energy performances helped cement his reputation as one of the genre’s most dynamic live acts.
That approach has carried him through a global touring career and numerous accolades, including the Albert King 'Most Promising Guitarist' Award at the International Blues Challenge, induction into the Canadian South Blues Hall of Fame, and multiple honors from the Music City Blues Society. He has appeared at major festivals worldwide, including the Edinburgh Jazz & Blues Festival, King Biscuit Blues Festival, and beyond.
“My dream? I’m basically living it,” Mitchhart says. “I’ve come a long way—but I’ve still got more to go.”
His new single, featuring Gretchen Wilson, "Sure Looks Good To Me" Good is out today.
