SHAKTI, featuring British guitarist John McLaughlin and Indian tabla player Zakir Hussain alongside vocalist Shankar Mahadevan, violinist Ganesh Rajagopalan, and percussionist Selvaganesh Vinayakram (son of original Shakti ghatam player T.H. “Vikku” Vinayakram) have launched their 50th Anniversary tour, their first in over sixteen years. This must-see tour includes stops in Nashville, Atlanta, Seattle, Chicago - eighteen cities in all, boasting five sold-out markets with others close behind. The tour will wrap up in Austin, TX on September 16.

For the first time ever fans at home will be able to watch this breathtaking performance via a  LIVESTREAM from Nashville’s legendary Ryman Theater, more details here.

This Moment – their first new studio album in 46 years was released on June 23 and has garnered rave reviews including 4-stars from UK’s The Guardian and Mojo Magazine as well as cover stories from Rolling Stone India to Downbeat Magazine and Jazzwise in addition to an upcoming coveted ‘Tiny Desk’ performance feature with NPR.

The members of Shakti are excited for the opportunity to continue their pan-global dialogue. “In our initial incarnation,” Zakir Hussain concludes, “we did not always have the time nor the means to explore. Now, with the decades of individual musical experiences we all have poured into this, the result reveals an extraordinary depth and level of interaction within this band.”
