Today, Pigeons Playing Ping Pong unveil “Hit The Ground Runnin’”, the second single from their forthcoming eighth studio album, Feed The Fire, arriving October 3 via No Coincidence Records. The track marks a studio first for the band, with bassist Ben Carrey stepping into the spotlight for his lead vocal debut.
Riding atop PPPP’s signature, unshakeable pocket, the track blends sweetness and grit in a way that feels instantly familiar. Opening with a deep, unhurried groove, “Hit The Ground Runnin’” moves with the easy momentum of a long drive down an open road. Layer by layer, the arrangement steadily blooms toward a soaring, guitar-driven crescendo that is equal parts reflective and triumphant.

Following an unavoidable moment of dinner table inspiration, Carrey penned the initial “Hit The Ground Runnin’” lyrics as an ode to the quiet resilience needed to keep moving forward. Carrying a message of hope and renewal through every note, the song resonates in a way that is both personal and communal. “It’s about the long road of life and the quiet strength it takes to keep moving forward,” explains Carrey.
The new single arrives on the heels of a wildly successful weekend at Domefest, the band’s beloved summer gathering, which returned after a one-year hiatus. This year’s iteration found a new home at West Virginia’s Ace Adventure Resort in the breathtaking scenery of the New River Gorge. The return of the long-running spectacle saw a jam-packed musical schedule featuring over twenty performers, and perfect weather for attendees to enjoy a full suite of outdoor recreation by day, and an immersive, psychedelic concert by night.
Over three nights, fans were treated to five expansive sets from PPPP filled with adventurous jams, surprise sit-ins, and three new originals — “Montreal” (a heartfelt retro singalong), “Go With It” (high-energy funk), and “Blue Light” (gritty future funk). In addition, Pigeons Playing Ping Pong dove headfirst into their seemingly endless bag of covers, performing seven total (from six different decades). Of those, four were debuts: Cat Stevens’ Wild World, The Police’s “Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic,” Collective Soul’s “Shine,” and Turnstile’s “SEEIN’ STARS.”
Special guests from Spafford, Octave Cat, Big Blitz, Natalie Brooke, and more joined Pigeons throughout the weekend, and icing on the cake was the annual high-octane Domefest All-Stars collaborative set, which saw performers from across the lineup band together for a jaw-dropping setlist comprised of funk and jam classics.
Following a handful of August and September festival appearances, PPPP will embark on a massive fall tour, traversing the US between the start of October and the end of 2025. For more information on the band, tour dates, tickets, Feed The Fire, and more, please visit pigeonsplayingpingpong.com.
