About Yonder Mountain String Band

For nearly three decades, Yonder Mountain String Band has been a driving force in roots music and a cornerstone of the progressive jamgrass movement. With their brand-new album Nowhere Next, the band launches a bold new chapter filled with original songs inspired by the people, places, and experiences that have shaped their journey. Mixing bluegrass, indie rock, country, and soulful grooves, Yonder delivers a sound that is both timeless and forward-looking.

Nowhere Next follows their Grammy-nominated 2022 release Get Yourself Outside, adding depth and momentum to Yonder’s rich legacy. Founding members Adam Aijala (guitar, vocals), Dave Johnston (banjo, vocals), and Ben Kaufmann (bass, vocals) are joined by multi-instrumentalist Nick Piccininni (mandolin, banjo, fiddle, vocals), whose songwriting and instrumental prowess shine across the record. New member Coleman Smith (fiddle) makes his studio debut, while Dobro master Jerry Douglas lends his Grammy-winning touch to standout tracks “Here I Go,” “Wasting Time,” and “Didn’t Go Wrong.”

Balancing nostalgia with fresh invention, Nowhere Next captures Yonder’s signature blend of heartfelt storytelling and adventurous musical exploration. From the road-tested drive of “Leave the Midwest” and “Cruisin’,” to the country-tinged “Come See Me” and “Second Hand Smoke,” to fresh takes on classics like “River” and “Didn’t Go Wrong,” the album embodies the essence of Yonder—edgy, vibrant, and full of surprises.

Produced by the band themselves, Nowhere Next is a testament to their collective synergy and enduring connection. With each track grounded in tradition yet alive with new possibilities, Yonder Mountain String Band continues to inspire fans across generations and genres.
