September 3rd, 1977, signifies the day my journey into the Grateful Dead culture began. At 15 years old, I wasn’t sure what I was getting involved in, but I took a chance anyway. It was a time in my life full of exploration and adventure, and all of these other people, including the band, seemed to be on the same path. There were no high-tech amenities like we have today. The people were the device, and we all moved carefully and respectfully around the planet, looking for our bliss.

In November of 2019, Chris and Rich Robinson announced that in 2020, the two would reunite and bring the rock and roll force of The Black Crowes on a cross-country tour to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the group’s inaugural powerhouse album Shake Your Money Maker. Nonprofit philanthropic organization, Live Music Society (LMS) announced a third round of grants to be awarded this fall to live music venues across the United States with a maximum sellable capacity of 300. Grant applications will be accepted from September 28 – October 20, 2021 via the organization’s website.

The annual Morristown Jazz & Blues Festival returns to the Green on Saturday, September 18, from noon until 10:00 p.m. Canceled because of the pandemic in 2020, this year’s free concert pays tribute to one of its founders Linda Kiger Smith and Mike Fabrizio, a longtime member of the festival committee, both of whom passed away in June. An initiative by Morristown Mayor Tim Dougherty, the Morristown Jazz & Blues Festival is made possible by the generous support of a long list of sponsors.

Last weekend’s Railbird Festival which took place at Keeneland Horse Racing Course in Lexington, Kentucky, took some hard hits from the media as the first day seemed to be filled with long lines, high temperatures, and lots of thirsty concertgoers. It was the second time the festival has been held, after being forced to cancel the 2020 event due to the pandemic.
Indie Jam Band Lucid Phase has released their new bluegrass single “People In My Life” featuring established violinist, Nora Germain. It follows their previous single, “Wind Is Gone”, released in July and comes ahead of their upcoming second studio album, Orchid Thief, due to release later this Fall.
