About two months ago, the lineup for Austin’s music festival, ACL, was announced to the eagerly awaiting music fans from near and far. ACL makes Austin a popular destination during both weekends of the two-weekend festival. When there are names like Guns N’ Roses, Mumford & Sons, Tame Impala, and Robyn, amongst many, many more, on the lineup, you’re sure to attract locals and tourists alike.
It was 36 years to the day since the first SPAC Grateful Dead concert on June 18, 1983. The anniversary seems to have gone mostly unnoticed by most attendees at the June 18, 2019, SPAC Dead & Company concert. The tour faithful seem to have the philosophy of living in the moment. Those of us that attended the 1983 show will talk about it reverently. We live in the past and the present.
No conversation about the modern resurgence of Jamaican roots reggae would be complete without mentioning the influence of Jesse Royal. After his set at this year’s Cali Roots festival, we spoke with Jesse about a wide range of topics from his family ties, stereotypes that affect him, and his relationship with something very near and dear to our hearts, The Grateful Dead.
The Wood Brothers have announced Fall 2019 tour dates. The 14-show run focuses on the Midwest and Texas beginning in November and concluding in December, including stops at Taft Theatre in Cincinnati, OH, The Pageant in St. Louis, MO and The Paramount Theatre in Austin, TX. 22-year-old rising guitarist and songwriter Madison Cunningham is debuting her new song “Something To Believe In;” listen/share HERE. Cunningham says the song is about, “the hesitation someone feels before they know they can entrust their love, past, future, joy, and sorrows to another.” She goes on to explain, “I think the most reassuring version of love isn’t in finding a faultless hero, but in finding a friend who admits they are bound to fail you, but will always keep faithfully and steadily trying.”
