Severn Records announces an October 16 release date for Raise Your Hands!, the first solo recording from former Blind Boys of Alabama guitarist Sam Butler. Gabrielle Papillon is one of those artists whose music is driven by her voice, lyrics and guitar. To call her simply a singer/songwriter would miss the point by leaving out a whole other dimension: the nostalgic distance and fragile aesthetics she brings vocally.

Her upcoming new album The Tempest Of Old captures the pick-up-and-play honesty in Gabrielle’s song writing with each track being beautifully produced alongside a yielding sense of time and place.

Over the Labor Day weekend, I was treated to a special concert at the Creede, CO, Ruth Humphries Brown Theatre. Musician and owner of Big River Music, Courtney La Zier invited me up. I couldn’t resist his enthusiasm.

Bluegrass, Beer, Dogs and Good causes are some of my favorite things. Finally through an event like Dog Days Bluegrass Festival I was able to enjoy all of these things in one place. Dog Days was truly special, as it gave Denverites a place to enjoy great music with their favorite furry companions as well as find great food, beer, vendors and charitable organizations.
