We’re talkin’ Janis Joplin, born on this very day back in 1943, down in Port Arthur, Texas. She was a soul on fire—like a blazing meteor streaking through the music sky—only the heavens never quite got over the brightness she brought.

It’s been said that all the years combine and melt into a dream. This can be true for any entity as it passes into history, and no doubt it applies in particular to the Grateful Dead. The story of this beloved band has been chronicled in numerous books by band members, insiders and close friends, and music journalists. After a while, it all rolls into one.

Get ready, Deadheads and music lovers alike: Colorado’s legendary Grateful Dead tribute band, Shakedown Street, is rolling into town to celebrate 38 groovy years of bringing the Dead’s timeless jams to life! On Friday, February 21, 2025, the band will take the stage at the Aggie Theatre for a show guaranteed to keep the spirit of the Grateful Dead burning bright.

38 Years of Spirited Jamming

Hot off recent appearances with the Allman Betts Family Revival at The Fillmore and Melvin Seals’ JGB at The Guild Theater, 17-year-old guitar sensation Bella Rayne is bringing her Grateful Dead/JGB tribute show, “Looks Like Rayne,” to Felton Music Hall on Saturday, January 18. Audiences can expect an unforgettable evening with a star-studded lineup of Nate LaPointe (Cubensis), Sunshine Garcia Becker (Furthur), Alex Jordan (Phil Lesh), Danny Luerhing, Tim Baker, and special guests.

Switchman Sleepin’ is celebrating twelve years as a band, and like most things associated with the music of the Grateful Dead, there is no stopping this magical train. The band formed in typical hippie fashion: a few guys jamming at a backyard party in 2012 set the wheels in motion and laid down the first tracks for the evolutionary journey of one of Colorado’s favorite Grateful Dead tribute bands.
