We love the music that Jerry Garcia created with The Grateful Dead and the Jerry Garcia Band created. All of us in The Garcia Project and Acoustically Speaking are huge fans and are dedicated to providing the best experience possible for everyone.

We have been performing regionally for the last four years and are heading to a few states where we have been asked by YOU to perform. Florida, California and Colorado have been the most requested by fans for The Garcia Project to journey to. We are ready and devoted to our mission and just need a little help to get the first step nationally touring.

With this small amount, we can offset the costs a bit to start up this tour. Our booking partners are already booking shows and we will be heading to Florida to start the tour. The more we raise, the more shows we can do and the more shows we can book along the way.

If there are awards that you would like to see that would make a difference, please let us know! We can customize and award for you if you like.

If you just want to help, please do make a donation in any amount and let us know that no rewards are necessary.

The Garcia Project faithfully channels and projects the feelings, emotions and music that propelled the Jerry Garcia Band and the fans through many years of musical bliss. It’s about family, soul searching, rejoicing, contemplating, celebrating, seeking truth and loving one another. It’s The Garcia Project.

The Garcia Project performs actual, full, classic Jerry Garcia Band shows from the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s – creating the Jerry Garcia Band experience for old fans to relive or new fans to enjoy for the first time.

Kat Walkerson adds heartfelt and soulful female vocals to the mix. She brings an awesome energy to the project and you can feel her love for this music though her singing. She exudes positive vibes and her smiles are a testament to her appreciation of the music. Kat has performed with Melvin Seals and JGB.

Mik Bondy fills the “Jerry” role with modesty and an understanding that no one can replace Jerry – but that we all together can rejoice in his music. Mik has constructed two tribute guitars and a recreation of Jerry’s actual guitar amps, effects and speakers. Mik loves to jam. He led and played with his band “Tapestry” for over twenty years. A long time Jerry-head, Mik enjoyed the last few years of Jerry’s life following the JGB around whenever he could. Mik has performed with Melvin Seals and the guys from JGB Band.

About The Garcia Project:

www.thegarciaproject.com

Mik Bondy formed The Garcia Project in October 2010. His inspiration came from his love for the music of The Jerry Garcia Band and his desire to perform the music authentically. He constructed two Jerry Garcia style guitars that mimic the sounds and tones from the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s, along with amps and speakers that replicate Jerry Garcia’s sound. In 2011 Kat Walkerson joined the band and elevated the vocals in the band. With her beautiful, soulful voice, her and Bondy’s vocal duets are becoming something of legend. The band also features Bobby Belanger on drums, Dan Crea on bass guitar and Greg Marshall on keyboards. All of the members strive to emulate the vocal stylings, sounds, playing style and feel of any given era of The Jerry Garcia Band. Some have said that The Garcia Project is the "Dark Star Orchestra” of Jerry Garcia Band music.

With classic Jerry Garcia Band arrangements of “Second That Emotion”, “How Sweet It Is”, “Catfish John” and more, the band caters to mainstream audiences and family, as well as capturing the hearts of Grateful Dead and Jerry Garcia Band fans. “If you close your eyes you’ll swear you are at a Jerry Garcia Band Show” was penned in an early review of the band and is echoed by many new fans at each show. This is not just a tribute band, but a great band in it’s own rite, with incredible chemistry and musicianship.

Melvin Seals, keyboardist of The Jerry Garcia Band has performed with The Garcia Project many times. Kat Walkerson was chosen to perform a few shows signing with Melvin Seals and JGB before she joined The Garcia Project.

The Garcia Project faithfully channels and projects the feelings, emotions and music that propelled the Jerry Garcia Band and the fans through many years of musical bliss. It’s about family, soul searching, rejoicing, contemplating, celebrating, seeking truth and loving one another.

“Hearing Jerry Garcia play and sing live for the first time, was an experience that I will never forget.” – Mik Bondy

I know that many others have enjoyed the passion and musical magic that Jerry Garcia brought to everything he did in his life. When I discovered the Jerry Garcia Band, in 1987, I was amazed and instantly hooked on the songs that he performed with his band and the way he performed them. We used to call going to Jerry Garcia Band shows “Jerry's Church” and it really was a church-like experience for many of us. We would get our spiritual fill and guidance from the songs and messages that Jerry brought to us. Back then, we were treated with songs like Sisters and Brothers, The Maker, Throw out the Lifeline and Lucky Old Sun. These songs helped bring a positive, reflective and bonding experience to us all.

Here is the first track, from our upcoming SPIRIT album! It is our version of “Throw Out the Lifeline”, which pays tribute to Jerry’s acoustic Americana and bluegrass stylings, and his collaborations with great artists such as Peter Rowan. Our version features Peter’s guitar and lead vocals backed by Kat Walkerson & Maria Muldaur. Mik Bondy on acoustic guitar, Dan Crea on bass, Jason Crosby on piano (Phil & Friends, Moonalice) and Jacob Jolliff on mandolin (Yonder Mountain String Band).

You can listen to a bit of it here and purchase the whole song for only $.99 on ITunes:

https://music.apple.com/us/album/throw-out-the-lifeline-single/1490889519

Every purchase will help The Garcia Project with the final production on the album. Thank you so much for your support!

Recently, I was asked to sit in with a wonderful band called The Garcia Project, who lovingly and reverently recreate different specific sets of the Garcia Band in their hayday. They don't merely recreate Jerry's music, as far as I'm concerned, they are channeling it. Performing with them, I am moved and touched by how much the music moves the audience into a state of joyous community and rapture. The Garcia Project brings us all back to that special time and I'm excited and blessed to participate in giving new and old audiences alike, the chance to relive the Spirit & Magic of the Jerry Garcia Band." - Maria Muldaur

“These players really get the soul of JGB, so If you love the music or are curious, come check them out!” — Andy Logan, Grateful Guitars Foundation

"I spent a lot of nights in a lot of places with the Jerry Garcia Band, and I’m here to say that I really enjoy what The Garcia Project does with those memories.  Mik’s guitar and his and Kat’s vocals stir up some very sweet vibes…some times they almost make me feel like I’m back in, say, 1992 at the Warfield.  Check ‘em out."— Dennis McNally, former publicist for the Jerry Garcia Band

The Garcia Project is a touring band that some may not have heard of yet, but they’ve been on  tour across the country for many years, selling out venues from The Sweetwater Music Hall in  Jerry’s hometown, to places like The Key West Theater in Key West Florida, and even the 1200  capacity Greenfield Lake Amphitheater in Wilmington, NC.

The band started out in 2010 performing the musical catalog of the late Jerry Garcia, choosing  mostly songs from the Jerry Garcia Band. The initial mission was to keep these songs  remembered and alive, and not lost among the already widely covered Grateful Dead repertoire  of songs. Soon after, the band was performing full, classic set lists and recreating actual Jerry  Garcia Band shows.

“Jerry wrote the best set lists. He knew how to bring us on a journey, with just the right ebb and  flow of the songs, perfectly orchestrated together.” - Kat Walkerson

Using the proper arrangements, amps, speakers, guitars, vocals and sounds, they channel the  true spirit of what the Jerry Band was from 1976 through 1995. And much like early Jerry band,  they fly under the radar and are completely a grass-roots team of folks that are on a mission.

The band has been blessed on its mission by a handful of very kind supporters. One of the  keys to the sound is using the proper guitars for the various eras.

Andy Logan, new owner of Jerry’s Alligator guitar and president of Grateful Guitars Foundation  said this about the band, “These players really get the soul of JGB, so If you love the music or  are curious, come check them out!”

In 2017, Andy gifted guitarist Mik Bondy of The Garcia Project a custom made “Tiger” replica  guitar. Matched in every way to Jerry’s Tiger, this stunning instrument in Mik’s hands, along  with Mik’s hand built, replica amps and speakers, helped to provide the sonic landscape for  recreating the 80’s and 90’s Jerry tones. That same year, Andy surprised Mik with a second gift  of a Travis Bean guitar to capture the 1976-77 tonal shapes of Jerry Garcia. In 2023, Andy gave  Mik and the band a personal gift of a beautiful “Wolf” replica to add to the late 1977-1978  sounds.

“This whole adventure and mission of the band is to bring some joy to people and to help keep  the vibes flowing that we all enjoyed while being at a Jerry Garcia Band show.” - Mik Bondy

An equal amount of priority is put into recreating the vocals sounds as is put into the  instrumental sounds recreation. Kat Walkerson, vocalist, adds so much heart and soul to the  music. Her vocal presence, energy, and vibe on stage provides a magical element to the music.  Kat and Mik are joined by a third vocalist, Dave Alderman to create that signature 80’s and 90’s  vocal sound of Jerry singing with vocalists Gloria Jones and Jacklyn LaBranch. Dave also  covers the lesser known and heard, Keith Godchaux harmonies from the 70’s JGB. Jacklyn  Labranch herself, has also recently joined Kat and The Garcia Project on vocals to recreate  some special 1990 shows for the fans.

Maria Muldaur, who sang on the “Cats Under The Stars” album and was a member of Jerry’s  touring band in 1977-1978, has performed with The Garcia Project many times, to recreate  classic 1978 shows. She said this about The Garcia Project:

“They don't merely recreate Jerry's music, as far as I'm concerned, they are channeling it.  Performing with them, I am moved and touched by how much the music moves the audience

into a state of joyous community and rapture. The Garcia Project brings us all back to that  special time and I'm excited and blessed to participate in giving new and old audiences alike,  the chance to relive the Spirit & Magic of the Jerry Garcia Band.”

Bassist Dan Crea has recreated John Kahn’s signature basses, amps and speakers as well to  round out the bottom end of the sonic landscape. Along with drummer Jack Betzen, they work  hard to recreate that tight and beautiful rhythm section from Jerry’s bands. Keyboardists Kris  Yunker and Elliot Jackson Rauch perform both the Keith Godchaux CP70 piano parts and the  later Melvin Seals growling and churchy authentic Hammond organ sounds with The Garcia  Project’s vintage keyboard gear.

The Garcia Project’s spring tour started on the west coast in March of 2023, and featured  shows with Jerry Garcia’s bandmates Maria Muldaur and Buzz Buchanan. The band is firing  on all cylinders and making the fans that want to relive the many classic Jerry Garcia Band  shows very happy.

Don’t miss your chance to catch The Garcia Project on Spring Tour 2023 as they perform a  different classic Jerry Garcia Band show recreation each night!

The Garcia Project is a must-see for anyone who had the good fortune of seeing Jerry’s band live. I was lucky enough to share the JGB experience with Jerry, John Kahn, Maria Muldaur, Keith and Donna. Being on stage with Mik, Kat, Dan and the crew is the closest thing to the original.  They are Jerry’s kindred spirits when it comes to making music. Even if you never saw JGB live, you can see and hear their spirit at a Garcia Project performance.” – Buzz Buchanan, Drummer for The Jerry Garcia Band 1977-1978
