Hot Buttered Rum New Live Release/Tour

photo(s) by Michael Podrid- for the Grateful Web

In the Fall of 2006, itching to release their first live album, Hot Buttered Rum announced that it would be recording a handful of shows for official release.  Live in the Northeast (released May 2007) beautifully reveals the true core of live Butter: music that is forceful without being flashy, serious without being stuffy, intricate without being inaccessible, and diverse without being distracting.  The performances were professionally multi-tracked and later carefully mixed by Butter's long-time sound engineer, Josh Osmond. The result is striking, presenting the unique energy and improvisational spirit of a Hot Buttered Rum live performance in studio-quality sound.

Often described as a rock band playing bluegrass instruments, no prior Butter recording has so perfectly displayed the band's bolder and heavier side.  Their full sound permeates Live in the Northeast — from the reggae-tinged "Return Someday" and psychedelica of "Desert Rat" through definitive covers of the Grateful Dead's "Cumberland Blues" and Leo Sayer's "Feel Like Dancin'" — winding the listener through a robust and intense set of acoustic rock.

The band's current list of confirmed tour dates is as follows:

June 19 Tractor Tavern Seattle WA

The widespread appeal of Hot Buttered Rum 's music stems not only from the band's musical versatility and prolific songwriting, but also from the magnetic chemistry the group creates onstage together.  It is this chemistry that is propelling the band to ever greater success. The band has performed at festivals as diverse as the Newport Folk Festival, Bonnaroo, Grey Fox, High Sierra and the Telluride Bluegrass Festival, and has shared the stage with such artists as Phil Lesh, Bela Fleck, Ben Harper, Chris Thile, Mike Marshall and Peter Rowan, the last two of whom worked with the band on its critically-acclaimed studio release, Well-Oiled Machine

Toubab Krewe Summer Tour

Toubab Krewe- for the Grateful Web

Toubab Krewe kicks off its U.S. Summer Tour on May 25 at the Lowertown Art and Music Festival in Paducah, KY. The run continues into September with shows from coast to coast, including performances at the Summer Camp, Asheville Music Jamboree, Wakarusa, High Sierra, 10,000 Lakes and Wall to Wall Guitar festivals.

The band started 2007 at the legendary Festival of the Desert in Essakane, Mali, known as the most remote festival in the world. The Malian tour was covered extensively by Afropop Worldwide, which declared that the band has "set a new standard for fusions of rock 'n' roll and West African music."

Toubab Krewe followed the tour of West Africa with a spring tour of the U.S., playing several dates with Toots and the Maytals and shows at the Langerado Music Festival, SxSW Music Festival and Merlefest, where members of the band performed with Rayna Gellert (Uncle Earl) and John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin).

Since forming in early 2005, the magnetic instrumental quintet has been credited with bridging the gap between West African and American music unlike any group before them, winning a diverse and devoted following and international acclaim from the New York Times, Global Rhythm, Relix, fRoots, NPR and more. Members of the group developed their unique sound over the course of numerous extended trips to Mali, Guinea, and Ivory Coast, where they immersed themselves in the local culture and studied and performed with luminaries such as Lamine Soumano, Vieux Kante, Madou Dembele and Koungbanan Conde.

The band is currently working on their sophomore album with Grammy winning producer Steven Heller, slated for an early 2008 release.

Announcing The 9th Annual Taos Solar Music Festival

Todd Park Mohr- for the Grateful Web

Each year, through the universal language of music, the Taos Solar Music Festival celebrates sun and renewable energy, and continues to be the festival of choice for music fans around the country who share an environmental consciousness and zealousness about this community we call Earth.

Now in its ninth year, the Taos Solar Music Festival is quite likely one of the music industry's original Green events.  Hosting attendees from over 30 U.S. States and internationally reputed for blazing a trail in awareness for solar energy, the Taos Solar Music Festival honors the unparalleled contributive power of the sun with three days of eclectic music, interactive exhibits and activities, and much more.  Attracting over 5,000 people annually from all over the country, the festival's main stage is powered through the use of photovoltaic panels. As always, the Solar Village, located on Solar Fest grounds and free/open to the public, will feature booths and demonstrations designed to inform and expose alternative and renewable energy sources and solutions. Festival producer Dawn Richardson explains, "We're really proud of the Solar Village – and hope that it helps to inspire and nurture sustainable communities in the region and throughout the nation.  We think the Solar Village is what makes this festival stand out from so many others around the country." This year, the Solar Musical Festival's Solar Village will be one of only a handful of places to find Toyota's Mobile Hybrid Experience, which will be on site showcasing their Toyota Hybrid Synergy Drive vehicles. Stay tuned at www.solarmusicfest.com for additional details on Solar Village specifics.

The festival's complete musical lineup will be revealed in the coming weeks.  For now, let it be known that Big Head Todd and the Monsters will kick off the weekend on Friday, June 29. Front man Todd Park Mohr, a long-time renewable energy advocate himself, says, "We always look forward to playing Solar Fest in Taos.  It is a beautiful setting with a great lineup of artists alongside a much needed plug for solar energy and environmental awareness.  It is always a raucous celebration!"  Also on the bill, Michael Franti & Spearhead and John Butler Trio. Additional artists TBA.

A premier vacation spot for the entire Four Corners region and beyond, Taos can be accessed through some of the most scenic and majestic highways and byways of America. A fun road trip and weekend getaway for family and friends, the festival is just a four to five hour drive from the Denver area, just over two hours from Albuquerque, or a day's jaunt from northern Texas.

Umphrey's McGee On Tour Now!

Jake Cinninger- for the Grateful Web

Umphrey's McGee releases a double disc album – a spontaneous and intriguing follow-up to their highly touted spring 2006 studio release Safety In Numbers.  Titled The Bottom Half, disc one features ten songs that did not make it onto Safety In Numbers, while disc two offers outtakes, alternative versions of songs, a cappella recordings, and other bits from the band's 2005 studio sessions. As with Safety In Numbers, famed album artist Storm Thorgerson has designed the artwork for The Bottom Half.

Safety In Numbers attracted mountains of attention for Chicago's rising stars during 2006.  The highly anticipated album charted on Billboard's Top 200 and on the coveted "Heatseekers" chart, and received a "4 Star" review in Blender magazine.  Also in 2006, Umphrey's McGee sold out shows in theaters coast to coast, appeared at Lollapalooza and Bonnaroo, and made their late night TV debut on ABC's Jimmy Kimmel Live. In addition, Guitar Player Magazine recently featured the band's guitarists – Jake Cinninger and Brendan Bayliss – on their list of "Best Unsung Guitar Heroes."

Umphrey's McGee will tour this spring/summer in support of their new release.  The list of stops includes a few very special apperances in their hometown of Chicago.  The band will perform the National Anthem at U.S. Cellular Field for the Chicago White Sox home opener on April 2nd.  This marks the third time Umphrey's McGee has sung the National Anthem at U.S. Cellular Field.  Later in April, look for the band to headline the city's inaugural Green Apple Festival.

Umphrey's performed this Earth Day festival last year in New York City, and is honored to now bring the earth-friendly event to their hometown.  Umphrey's will headline the festivities at the Lincoln Park Zoo on April 22 nd, in addition to a very special intimate Vic Theatre performance on April 21st.  A portion of the proceeds for the show, and 100% of the sales from an exclusive show poster, will be donated to a Chicago environmental organization to be determined.

More dates to be announced.

It has been a quick rise for Chicago's Umphrey's McGee.  Their virtuoso playing and edgy songcraft recently compelled Rolling Stone to choose Umphrey's "a band to watch" in their annual Hot Issue.  Relix magazine put them on the cover of their December 2004 issue and the prestigious Chicago Music Awards bestowed upon Umphrey's McGee the coveted Best Rock Entertainer of the Year award. Booked coast to coast by the Monterey Peninsula Booking Agency, the band recently sold out three nights at Chicago's Aragon Ballroom, two nights at Irving Plaza, San Francisco's Fillmore Auditorium, and the list goes on.

Ratdog & Keller Williams Announce Summer Tour

Bobby @ The Fillmore in Denver- for the Grateful Web

Bob Weir and RatDog and Keller Williams will cross the country this summer, sharing a stage both separately and together, making music and doing what they do best.  The tour will begin in Atlanta on July 7th and end in Los Angeles on July 28th.

Bob Weir is a founding member of the legendary Grateful Dead.  He founded RatDog as a duo in 1995, and over the succeeding years he has enlisted Jay Lane (drums), Jeff Chimenti (keyboards), Mark Karan (lead guitar), Kenny Brooks (saxophone), and Robin Sylvester (bass).  RatDog plays not only Bob's various solo material but the complete Grateful Dead repertoire, and has evolved from an elegant duo to a snarling beast of a rock band that contains a jazz trio at its heart.

Keller Williams has been called guitar's mad-scientist and a one-man-band for the new millennium. Williams is considered by some, but not by himself, to be a master of the acoustic guitar, known for his ability to solo over layers of spontaneously created loops. He is a generous performer who plays down-to-earth acoustic music that defies any effort to find a convenient pigeonhole.  If pressed for a definition, Williams, as adept with language as he is with a guitar pick, calls it solo, acoustic jazzfunk reggae technograss – or simply - solo acoustic dance music.

Sometimes musicians tour together purely because of business.  These guys actually like each other, as evidenced by the tune "Cadillac" on Keller's recently released new album on SciFidelity, Dream, a duet between Keller and Bob.  Recorded at Weir's home studio, it also features an appearance from Weir family retriever Jackson (see the tour advertising design and notice who's driving the Cadillac!).  Or, as the inimitable Weir said of him, "Keller Williams is more fun than a frog in a glass of milk."  Keller seems to like the idea, too: "I love this tour because I get to get in for free."

That positive vibe will be felt across the country this summer.

Keller Williams New Album 'Dream,' Coming Soon

Keller Williams- for the Grateful Web

When singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Keller Williams scratched out a long and ambitious wish list of artists he'd like to collaborate with in the studio, he told himself "It can't hurt to dream." Today, with the release of his ninth studio album, Keller's dream comes true. For the release the usually one-man-band is backed by a dream team of musicians including Béla Fleck, Bobby Read, Bob Weir, Charlie Hunter, Derrek Phillips, Fareed Haque, Fleming McWilliams, Jeff Sipe, John Molo, John Scofield, Martin Sexton, Michael Franti, Modereko, Samir Chatterjee, Sanjay Mishra, Steve Kimock, The String Cheese Incident, and Victor Wooten. dream features 16 tracks of unblemished material: a cataract of electrifying musical alliances, and endless entertainment thanks to Keller's rapturous innovations and his earthy, barefoot-in-the-park presentation. Look for dream to be released February 6. 2007 on SCI Fidelity Records.

Keller Williams is a one-man band for the digital age. Using innovative looping technology and innate musical genius, Keller's live solo performances pack more music on one stage than a full fledge rock ensemble might. His inspired live shows sell out from coast to coast.
