Interviews

Grateful Web recently sat down for an interview with band members Gary Green and Kerry Minnear of the band Gentle Giant from November 10th, 2009.

The last two years for percussionist Jason Hann have been a roller coaster of musical endeavors.  His main project, the wildly popular String Cheese Incident, decided it was time to take an extended hiatus from performing due to some artistic conflicts within the group.  From the break, Hann and fellow Cheese drummer Michael Travis formed a dynamic jam-tronica duo called

In the burgeoning jamband era of the 1990s, one band from Minnesota set out to take the world by storm.  This of course is the Big Wu, one of the more unsung heroes of the jam scene who have arguably displayed some of the best songwriting to come out of rock in the last 15 years.

The Grateful Web's Nancy Levine recently had an opportunity to speak to Billy Kreutzmann, drummer for the Grateful Dead about playing again as 'The Dead,' his love for ocean and sea mammal protection, and what profession Billy would like to attempt were he not playing music...

GW: How has the tour gone?

It’s a curious sight; the art on the cover is by Stanley Mouse. The liner notes include songs written by David Nelson and Robert Hunter. The first song clocks in at nearly eight minutes. When I opened the envelope that contained “Where I Come From” I admit I was a bit puzzled. Surely this had to be a best of compilation or a live recording? When the Minneapolis-based White Iron Band released their latest CD, Devil's Sweet Revenge, the band offered up something quite unique and very unexpected for these frozen Southern rockers. The hard-driving rock sound is still ever present in the 13 tracks, but there is a richness of content that I know no one expected to come out of these guys.

Marco Benevento is smiling. Do you know why? Is it the thought of his infant daughter? Perhaps the continual climb upward he has made in his career since bursting onto the scene in the late 90's? Or maybe it's the culmination of his most recent musical phase, the release of Me Not Me, which gave him the chance to combine his original magnum opuses with interpretations of the masterpieces of a number of other artists. But, the real reason he's smiling?

On November 13th, I was all set to see the Toubab Krewe play the B.Side Lounge in Boulder.  I headed downtown early, hoping to catch the band after sound check.  I'd been corresponding back and forth with their tour manager for a few weeks, and after agreeing to review the band's new album, Live at the Orange Peel (due to be released on Nov.
