Allman Brothers Band

Legendary Southern Rock guitarist Dan Toler died this morning, February 25th 2013, at his home in Sarasota Florida. Dan passed away after a long battle against (ALS) Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis.Dan Toler was celebrated in the late 1970s for his astonishing guitar work as a member of the Dickey Betts & Great Southern band. He was featured on the two albums with Dickey Betts & Great Southern and later become a member of The Allman Brothers Band in 1979 and remained until 1982.

The annual "Brothers' Midnight Concert Series" continues Saturday, March 9 when Flannel Church hits the stage at Lucille's Grill, located inside the B.B. King Blues Club, at midnight following the Allman Brothers concert at the Beacon Theatre.Flannel Church debuted in January 2012 when a few former Col. Bruce Hampton proteges (led by tenured Pharaoh Gummit drummer Duane Trucks) completed their rite of passage with Bruce and started their own band in Atlanta, GA.

Let's get it out of the way -- yes, we're talking about Gregg Allman's son. And there it is, think what you will.

Not that (Devon) Allman wants to make his career as his father’s lad. In the liner notes for his debut album, Turquoise, the artist’s folks are clearing trying to distance the kid (relatively speaking) from his old man: (Devon) grew up… surrounded by a humble life away from the rock and roll circus that was his father’s band. We get the point.

Despite coming from a bloodline rich in southern rock and roll history, Devon Allman has always marched to his own tune. The son of Gregg Allman and front man for Honeytribe and Royal Southern Brotherhood talks in depth about his new solo record, life in a supergroup, and his love of music.

Even if he’d never formed the Allman Brothers Band, Duane Allman would be a major figure in American popular music. Long before his name became known to mainstream audiences, he had already established his credentials as a once-in-a-lifetime guitar visionary, leaving his unmistakable stamp on a broad array of recordings.
