Charles Manson, Jim Jones, and David Koresh typically represent the idea of cults in America. Among the indie scene however, the word “cult” is gradually making an association with pop vocals and keyboard melodies entrenched in a darker noise rock thanks to the New York group, CULTS.

On Wednesday night, the Colorado Daily and the Grateful Web presented "Twiddle" & "The Heavy Pets" at the Fox Theater. The show opened up with a seven-man reggae group, "Policulture." The band members all seemed pretty young, and the drummer was clad in a gas mask and a rasta hat.

Opening up the show, the band Onward, Soldiers, fresh off recording their sophomore LP, Monsters, started us off with a tight performance that sourced heavily from their new album.  Rapidly collecting fans and critical attention, this young band from North Carolina gave concertgoers reason to jump on the bandwagon.  According to lead singer Sean Thomas Gerard, “We’ve been a band for three years, but only two years with the current members.”  Despite that fact,

Perpetual Groove has been a staple of the Jamband scene for almost 15 years now. Their studio recordings have been received with success, but it is really their live shows and dedicated fans that have kept P-Groove on top of the scene and riding that momentum into their sophomore decade. Last night the famous Fox Theater hosted a band that has been rapidly finding fame of their own.  Or should we say…infamy? Drawing in an audience from the blustery Boulder wind, The Infamous Stringdusters, warmed us up with a set that left us with no doubt why their ascension to the top of the bluegrass charts has been so rapid.

Jason Isbell is one of those artists able to magnificently personify a region of the United States through his performance; he and his band are undoubtedly from the South, Muscle Shoals, Alabama to be exact. On Thursday night at The Fox Theater in Boulder they treated the audience to some musical southern hospitality in the finest sense.

One of the most apparent struggles for the “core four” surviving members of the late Grateful Dead is how to follow up a musical career without going about continuing the music of their previous band. And as we all know, calling Grateful Dead a “band” is simply a misstatement. It was a way of life.
