Alongside Jorma and Jack is multi-instrumentalist and mandolin wizard Barry Mitterhoff and, when electric, defining the rhythm and setting the beat drummer is Skoota Warner.

Jorma and Vanessa Kaukonen will open the doors to The Fur Peace Ranch Center for Art & Culture, Meigs County, Ohio in a grand celebration bringing the country the Psylodelic Gallery and the Psylodelic Sit-In.  The event will shine a spotlight on the art and installations at the new Psylodelic Gallery and provide a prime opportunity for area representatives to echo the inspirations and goals of the psychedelic era. Big Brother and the Holding Company will perform at 8 p.m. Earlier, Jorma will host an interview with Big Brother and record their historical perspective, which will then be a part of the museum's archives.

The Psylodelic Sit-In will be a combination of booths from a variety of area vendors, merchants, artists, musicians, and activists who can shed light on issues, fixes, and improvements they would like to see happen. The Sit-In will also invite patrons to take part in family-friendly activities like tie-dye workshops, face painting, games, and contributing to an ever-changing art installation – painting “Darwin” the VW Bug.

Skip down the guitar neck sidewalk into the silo filled with posters, clothes, and history. Record your favorite 60's era memory (We know you remember...you just haven't been tellin'!) or paint what's on you mind. Saturday, June 29 from 11 a.m. - 5 p.m.

At The Gallery:

Permanent Exhibits – The gallery displays show posters from some of the best-known acts of the decade, clothing and jewelry worn at Woodstock, original photographs, art prints, guitars, and much more.

Video and Audio Storyboards – Patrons can record their own experiences

"Found Art" Projects – Allowing patrons to create their own unique pieces of art.

Guest Lecturers and Speakers – A series of events will include artist Wes Wilson known for his Fillmore posters commissioned by Bill Graham, musicians, writers, and other influences from the psychedelic era.

Collaboration with Local Schools  – field trips, projects and contests on the art, music, literature, clothing, and jewelry of the 1960's. Including using the beat of the songs and the combination of cornstarch, water, and food coloring over a plastic-wrapped speaker for a Psychedelic "non-Newtonian" liquid light transformation right before your eyes.

Community Nights – Films, concert footage, and a liquid light show for all age groups.

The fascination continues this summer with Hot Tuna as they tour around The States performing their music with appeal and alluring passion. Or please come sit back with them in the gently rolling hills of the Fur Peace Ranch Guitar Camp as they explain their thoughts on music, and perform at the Fur Peace Live Concert events with their friends who come to stay and play at Fur Peace Ranch in Pomeroy, Ohio.

Masters of music, acclaimed performers, Jorma Kaukonen and Jack Casady, defined psychedelic music in the '60's. Their music is intentional and heartfelt whether dredged from old-time blues or a passion revealed through electric rock and roll. They have loved performing together as Hot Tuna since their days as the Jefferson Airplane. As Jack celebrates his 70th year, they have played through six decades together. Starting as teenagers, to their current acoustic and electric blues shows, probably no one has more consistently led American music for the last 50 years than Jorma Kaukonen and Jack Casady.

All shows include multi-instrumentalist and mandolin wizard, Barry Mitterhoff. Compadres Leon Russell and Donna the Buffalo will join up with Hot Tuna's tour for several shows.

Bill Thompson, manager of Jefferson Airplane and subsequently the spinoffs Jefferson Starship, Hot Tuna and Starship, died of a heart attack yesterday, Jan. 12, in Mill Valley, Calif. Thompson was 70. "One of the more colorful managers in rock history, and a beloved figure within the Bay Area music scene, Thompson guided the various bands through both great successes and years-long personal and legal entanglements." Relix

Jorma Kaukonen, friend and member of Hot Tuna and Jefferson Airplane reminisces:

I was driving to Lexington, Kentucky this morning for a gig, when I received a sad call. My old colleague, Bill Thompson, passed away this morning in California.  At seventy four years of age, I have spent most of my life since my twenties on the road and in the beginning when Jefferson Airplane was starting to fly, our constant companion was Bill Thompson. He was with us when we started and wound up being our manager in the years before Jack and I left and the Airplane was retired to the hanger. Because of the way we did business back then, Bill was like a band member… his instrument were his phone, his desk and his voice.  He was one of us.

As the years slid by, we lost Spencer and Joey to mortality… and now another one of us is gone. I remember that little sneer he would have when he laughed… that curling of the upper lip, accompanied by something utterly inappropriate.

My heart goes out to his surviving family… Bill was younger than I and that makes it much, much too soon. Here’s to those and those like us… damn few left.

Fair wind and following seas brother … Jorma

Sometimes an acoustic duo sometimes a full-fledged rock and roll band, Jack Casady and Jorma Kaukonen always deliver music emotively and consciously to their audiences, creating an evening a fun and camaraderie.

From their days playing together as teenagers to their current acoustic and electric blues, Jorma and Jack, the core members of Hot Tuna, have celebrated over fifty years of playing together. The Rock and Roll Hall of Famers and Jefferson Airplane founding members create a propelling sound, cruising through new songs, old songs, traditional songs and instrumentals. With Kaukonen’s inventive finger-picking guitar work and Casady’s full-driving bass lines, Hot Tuna delivers soulful music bursting with creative energy. Rolling Stone declared, “Hot Tuna is a Psychedelic-Blues Institution.”

An artist from childhood who was painting in oils by the age of seventeen, Jerry Garcia in his youth thought of himself as “an artist who played music,” Throughout the years of his prodigious musical output he continued drawing and painting.

Around 1983 he began to spend more time studying art, and by 1986 he had completed five large acrylic airbrush compositions, which are among his best-known works. “Facets II” and “Blue Iceberg” were painted at this time. Jerry did not return to airbrush after 1986; he preferred to continue drawing and painting in watercolor, but he also made a number of images in the computer.

In the watercolors, buoyant shapes and saturated colors infuse sky, earth and water. The nature pictures have a welcoming richness and generosity of spirit. Organic and crystalline structures are rendered in spectral colors.

Jerry is often at his best in the ink paintings - his brush laying down short, animated strokes. The immediacy of ink suited his nature; he enjoyed the bold play of an unforgiving medium that allows no corrections. Serendipitous, automatic, uninhibited, playful or gloomy, some of his most effective work is in ink. He said “A line on paper is like a note in the air,” and once a mark is made, it can no more be erased than a note, once sounded, can be taken back. The ink painting entitled “Hunter” is a good example of the ink style. Brief and unhesitating, it is made of only a few lines.

Sometimes his brush or pen is just wandering, improvising. Jerry said he didn’t think about it much, yet he had great respect for the artists who had influenced him-- Picasso, Ernst, de Chirico, Klee, Van Gogh, and the Expressionists.

Jerry always had his sketchbooks with him. He filled them with the notes and drawings that have become some of his most familiar works. He wasn’t interested in attracting more public attention or painting for an audience but was doing it purely, uninhibitedly, indulgently, for himself.

And now we, the audience, have in our view the uncensored ruminations of a great musician whose consciousness and speculations interest and amaze us. To view a collection of art by Jerry Garcia is to be drawn in by his vision, his wit and the sheer abundance of his creative spirit.

Conceived in 1989 by Jorma & Vanessa Kaukonen, The Fur Peace Ranch is nestled in the rolling foothills of southeast Ohio. It is a place where both budding and seasoned musicians can immerse themselves and emerge with renewed inspiration and tangible progress in their music. Workshops are held throughout the Summer and into the Fall. Upcoming bass workshops are taught by master musicians Kai Eckardt and Bobby Vega.

Couples Weekend, July 29 - August 1 | Kai Eckardt, Universal Bass – The Next Frontier

Kai Eckardt's background in music as in life has been bi-racial and multi-cultural. The combination of being raised in my father’s native Liberia/West-Africa and my mother’s Germany have forced me to find the common denominators in very opposing worlds.

Kai share some of these discoveries with you in his workshop with fun exercises, listening examples and interactive studies. They will include how to build solid bass lines from scratch and various meters and feels, how rhythm and harmony works and how you can navigate through a song with confidence. We will also look at how to approach a solo over chord-changes and how to set up your own practice drills so you can evolve autonomously with enthusiasm and healthy self-motivation.

Going back to the “why and how” of things, we will be addressing not only the physical aspects of playing the bass, but also the psychological dimensions which ultimately decide over whether you stagnate or advance along your musical path. For beginners and masters alike – the path remains eternal. (http://bit.ly/1T8Yw51)

Pick n Putt, September 23-26 (includes motorcycle rides through the countryside) | Bobby Vega, Bass - All About the Groove

Bobby will take his 43 years of playing experiences and use that as a starting point to expand on your knowledge of the bass guitar. He has been blessed to accompany some great artists over the years; starting with my experience playing with Sly Stone as a teenager and then going on to play with such greats as Paul Butterfield, Billy Preston, Etta James, Bob Weir, Joan Baez, Tower of Power, Kitaro, Santana and Jerry Garcia......and of course my long term collaborations with Steve Kimock/Zero/KVHW. What I have found to be the most important part in my playing, through all styles of music, is the groove and this workshop will be ALL ABOUT THE GROOVE!

We will explore how to get a better pocket.....groove.....that will make your band mates smile. He believes one of the many jobs of the bass player is to accompany your fellow musician or musicians with a sensitivity for how to best help them tell their story. So, you will look at the importance of accompaniment.

In studying the groove you will look at chords, licks and harmonics. You will study tonal techniques and tonal qualities to add some feel to your playing. Other elements such as volume control and the importance of dynamics will be studied.

What Bobby usually tell folks is "I practice by playing.....running through major and minor scales and taking off from there. This workshop will give us plenty of time to play together and learn together and above all.... have some fun!" (http://bit.ly/1TFp0F7)

From their days playing together as teenagers, through their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame band, Jefferson Airplane, to their current acoustic and electric blues, no one has more consistently led American music for the last 50 years than Jorma Kaukonen and Jack Casady, the founders and core members of Hot Tuna.

Jorma and Jack certainly could not have imagined, let alone predicted, where playing would take them. It has been a long and fascinating road to numerous exciting destinations. Two things have never changed: Jorma and Jack still love to play as much as they did as kids in Washington, D.C. and there are still many, many exciting miles yet to travel on their musical odyssey. Hot Tuna will perform in their own unfiltered unfathonable fashion which makes each show its own experience.

Hot Tuna performs spontaneous, unfiltered music whether as an acoustic duo or as a solid power trio including drummer, Justin Guip. It’s unfathomable how Jorma Kaukonen and Jack Casady make each show its own experience, but they do ... and effortlessly!

From their days playing together as teenagers, through their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for Jefferson Airplane, to their current acoustic and electric blues sound, no one has more consistently led American music for the last 50 years than Jorma Kaukonen and Jack Casady, the founders and continuing core members of Hot Tuna.

The constant, the very definition of Hot Tuna, has always been Jorma Kaukonen and Jack Casady. The two are not joined at the hip, though; through the years both Jorma and Jack have undertaken projects with other musicians and solo projects of their own. But Hot Tuna has never broken up, never ceased to exist, nor have the two boyhood pals ever wavered in one of the most enduring friendships in music.

Earlier this year, Jorma Kaukonen and Jack Casady, founding members of Hot Tuna and Jefferson Airplane, were honored with a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.  They performed in a special PBS ‘Great Performances’ concert, The GRAMMY Salute To Music Legends® to be aired this Fall.

Hot Tuna, Jack Casady and Jorma Kaukonen (photo above) perform with a well-honed and solid power, always in the groove from their years of experience and mutual inspiration. They are heading west for the winter.

Tedeschi Trucks Band has announced the third installment of their wildly popular Wheels of Soul Summer Tour. The 12-piece ensemble led by husband and wife Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks will be supported on all dates by longtime friends and collaborators Hot Tuna (Jorma Kaukonen, Jack Casady and drummer Justin Guip) and masters of soulful folk, The Wood Brothers. The tour is scheduled to hit many of the country’s premier outdoor venues on the most ambitious Wheels of Soul tour to date July 1 through 30, 2017. For the latest ticket on-sale information, please visit: www.tedeschitrucksband.com.

With an incomparable live show that embodies the vision of a large touring family bound by music, the Wheels of Soul summer dates are a favorite among fans and critics alike. The Oakland Press deemed Wheels of Soul “the best musical hang of the season…a celebration of kindred creative spirits,” while Denver Westword calls TTB’s summer package “a wall of talent on stage.”

When asked about joining Wheels of Soul this year Jorma offered excitement and praise, “Tedeschi Trucks is arguably one of the greatest band in the world today. It is an honor for me and my Hot Tuna brothers to be part of this great tour.” Jorma Kaukonen of Hot Tuna crossed paths with Derek and Susan early in their careers and their mutual admiration and kinship grew as Jorma supported TTB on select shows this past year.

For more than four decades, Hot Tuna has played, toured, and recorded some of the best and most memorable acoustic and electric music ever. From their days playing together as teenagers in the Washington, DC area, through years of inventive Psychedelic rock in San Francisco (1996 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductees), to their current blues sound, no one has more consistently led American music for the last 50 years than Jorma Kaukonen and Jack Casady, the founders and continuing core members of Hot Tuna. At the 2016 Grammys, Jorma Kaukonen and Jack Casady were honored with Lifetime Achievement Awards. The two boyhood pals have never wavered in one of the most enduring friendships in Rock history. They are a force in American music.

The annual Wheels of Soul summer run has become more than just a fan favorite; it has become a highlight for the headliners as well. “It’s been great to develop this tour into an annual event where we get a chance to hit the road and share the stage with fellow musicians we love and respect. Each year we try to find bands that share our musical vision while bringing their own unique talents to this traveling circus,” says Susan.

Derek adds that this tour offers a unique opportunity for both the musicians and fans, “Every year as the tour rolls along the collaborations between all the musicians grow and grow. It inspires and challenges us in new ways and I think that really translates to the audience when they see how much fun we’re having with our friends.”

Fan pre-sale begins on Tuesday, January 24, and tickets go on sale to the public on Friday, January 27. Current Wheels of Soul 2017 dates listed below (Additional dates and on-sale information to be announced shortly).

Jack Casady is one of the most influential bassists of his generation.  He ranks among the Top 25 Bassists of all time says Bass Player Magazine and today his signature bass can be heard on tour with Paul McCartney, Jack White, the Stone Roses, and of course, Hot Tuna.

Epiphone and Jack Casady first released Jack’s signature bass in 1997. It was the culmination of years of experimentation by the bassist to create an instrument that had superb electric tone but also had the response of an acoustic bass. Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks's Wheels of Soul Summer Tour is heading out across America July 1st with longtime friends and collaborators Electric Hot Tuna (Jorma Kaukonen, Jack Casady and drummer Justin Guip) and masters of soulful folk, The Wood Brothers. The Tedeschi Trucks Band, a 12-piece ensemble led by the husband and wife master musicians, is scheduled to bring the show to many of the country’s premier outdoor venues on the most ambitious Wheels of Soul tour to date July 1 through August 2, 2017.

Electric Hot Tuna's music is unique, an expression of Jorma Kaukonen and Jack Casady's individual personalities who forge their improvisational sounds with a feeling of significance into a dynamic event. Their electric sound is complete with the addition of drummer Justin Guip,* whose "emphatic yet fluid timekeeping is a true complement." Starting August 25, Steve Kimock, the blazing psychedelic guitarist versatile enough to touch almost all aspects of American music, will join Hot Tuna on tour.

"With Steve Kimock on board for this Hot Tuna Tour you can count on a multidimensional dialogue between musical friends. There’s never a dull moment when Steve is part of the conversation!" says Jorma.

Steve Kimock will join Electric Hot Tuna this summer

Dubbed “The Guitar Monk” by Relix magazine, Steve Kimock is driven by the knowledge that there is always more. While one can say that his genre is rock, no one niche has ever confined him. From the 80's Jazz/Rock band Zero (regarded as one of the marquee Bay Area bands and architects of jam band genre), or the 90's KVHW through to his latest Steve Kimock recording Satellite City, he has explored various sounds and styles based on what’s moved him, whether it’s blues or jazz; funk or folk; psychedelic or boogie; gypsy or prog-rock; traditional American or world fusion. (www.kimock.com)

"Musicianship, chemistry, history, Jack and Jorma are the real deal on every level. It’s an honor to hang with those guys and play that music," says Steve.

It has been an amazing 50 years for Jorma Kaukonen and Jack Casady.  Their band, Hot Tuna, invokes as many different moods and reactions as there are Hot Tuna fans — millions of them. To some Hot Tuna is a reminder of some wild and happy times. To others, that name will forever be linked to their own discovery of the power and depth of American blues and roots music. To newer fans, Hot Tuna is a tight, masterful act who define the cutting edge of great music. For five decades, Hot Tuna has played, toured, and recorded some of the best and most memorable original electric rock and soulful acoustic music.

From their days playing together as teenagers to their current acoustic and electric blues, no one has more consistently led American music for the last 50 years than Jorma Kaukonen and Jack Casady, the founders and core members of Hot Tuna. Three-time Grammy winner, drummer and percussionist Justin Guip is all about the groove, the heartbeat at the essence of all great music.  Justin lets the song — delicate or driving as the music needs — dictate his drumming style providing the perfect dynamic for Hot Tuna to electrify their trademark sound.

2019 brings Hot Tuna jamming with their many friends on tour, including Dave Mason, David Bromberg, Larry Campbell & Teresa Williams, Rob Ickes & Trey Hensley, and Dark Star Orchestra!

Members of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and Grammy recipients Jorma Kaukonen and Jack Casady, were at the forefront of popular rock and roll, founders of the San Francisco sound and progenitors of Psychedelic Rock. For over 50 years they have continued to play dynamic original music as Hot Tuna! The dynamics of their music feels alive in the present and alive on a continuum from the moment the music percolates in their minds to the time it explodes into the theatre. When Acoustic, the duo seems to speak a language of their own at once both intimate and forthright. When joined by the dynamic, three-time Grammy winner, drummer Justin Guip, Electric Hot Tuna is major force. Imagine something bigger and and more dynamic than the obvious, Hot Tuna in concert!

For over 50 years Hot Tuna, Jorma Kaukonen and Jack Casady, has brought a wealth of emotions to their music through deep perceptions and tremendous talent.  Jorma Kaukonen and Jack Casady are always injecting fresh energy into their sound with constant improvisation taking their musical horizons further.

The acoustic duo seems to speak a language of their own at once both intimate and forthright.

Larry Campbell is an American multi-instrumentalist, who plays many stringed instruments (including guitar, mandolin, pedal steel guitar, slide guitar, and violin) in genres including country, folk, blues, and rock. He is perhaps most widely known for his time as part of Bob Dylan's Never Ending Tour band from 1997 to 2004. Larry produced Jorma's latest solo CD Ain't in no Hurry and is included as special guest with Jorma and Jack. (www.larryandteresa.com/)

March 28, 2021 - City Winery Presents Jorma Kaukonen’s March Medicine Music to Heal the Soul - A Virtual Zoom Masterclass

Still got the blues… and you will too if you join us for this class. I’m going back to the blues well. It’s a deep well that set me on fire as a young musician. From Muddy Waters to Jesse Fuller I was inspired to find my own voice which I did with the help of my old Gibson. Drawing from a lifetime of blues excursions, I will take you back to that place and break down a few of my favorite blues songs. Though this is a level 3 fingerstyle class, we will be addressing advanced technique and execution in addition to, “just learning the songs.” (https://citywinery.com/newyork/jormas-march-medicine-music-to-heal-the-soul)

Wed, 02/24/2021 - 6:28 am

When I moved to the Bay Area in Northern California in 1962 I settled in Santa Clara, where I was to go to school. San Francisco was a Mecca to me back then. The whole Beat headspace had been calling my name for years. Santa Clara was a backwater, but San Francisco was less than fifty miles away. As soon as I was able to find a like-minded spirit with a car, we saddled up and headed north up the 101.

North Beach had been calling my name for a long time. Coming back from the Philippines some months before, a stop at an English-speaking bookstore in Tokyo had outfitted me with some Henry Miller books… hard if not impossible to find in the States back then. At City Lights Bookstore there on Columbus Avenue in North Beach, all things were possible from The Rosy Crucifixion to Black Spring. That was 59 years ago, and at that callow age all things were still possible.

A couple or so years later in 1966, Jefferson Airplane would play a show at the Fillmore Auditorium. That in itself would not be that interesting. In some respects, the Airplane was almost like a band in residence. I lived up the street from the Fillmore in the Western Addition and the other band members did not live far away.

Anyway, the ‘opening’ act that night was Lawrence Ferlinghetti and the young Russian poet Andrei Voznesensky. Lawrence read, then Andrei read… then Lawrence read the English translations of the work that Andrei had just manifested. Hard to imagine an unformatted ‘rock’ show like that today. Bill Graham wasn’t into cookie cutter shows, that’s for sure!  Bill would die in 1991, Andrei in 2010 and Lawrence in 2021.

As Lawrence said, ‘The greatest poem is lyric life itself.

After working together in the late ’80 and early 90’s, including shows where John opened for Jorma or Hot Tuna, their friendship solidified largely based on musical interests and shared talents. Being close friends and neighbors John and Jorma have done, and do, a lot of spontaneous picking together. Jorma loves to provide lead flourishes backing up John’s signature vocals and rhythm guitar. So, while “staying in place” at the Fur Peace Ranch Jorma and John were able to capture their friendship on vinyl!

"Kaukonen provides distinctive accompaniment, flashing his versatility...his lead work is a revelation” – Living Blues

In a career that has already spanned a half-century, guitarist and vocalist, Jorma Kaukonen has been one of the most highly respected interpreters of American roots music, blues, and Americana, and at the forefront of popular rock-and-roll. A member of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and a Grammy recipient, he is a founding member of two legendary bands, Jefferson Airplane and the still-touring Hot Tuna. Jorma Kaukonen’s repertoire goes far beyond his involvement creating psychedelic rock; he is a legend and one of the finest singer-songwriters and master instrumentalist in music today. Jorma tours the world bringing his unique styling to old blues and writing new songs with insight and imagination.

"Hurlbut’s performance resonates with emotional sincerity; his singing sounds like it flows from a guy who has seen a few things, good and bad." – The Arts Fuse

John Hurlbut has been playing guitar since he was ten and made the natural progression from high school to college bands. There he started writing and interpreting songs with a folky/country vocal twang and solid rhythm, fronting several successful Ohio bands. The River Flows Volume Two is John’s second global introduction to most, but his many friends and local music lovers have celebrated his good vibes for years and more can be expected from him in the future.

Produced by Jorma Kaukonen & Michael Falzarano, this is an intimate Christmas recording featuring a nice balance of instrumentals and vocals delivered in Jorma’s signature style with longtime friend Michael Falzarano on guitars, vocals and sleigh bells. “Michael has been through the trenches with me. And traveling the globe and making records with him has been one of the highlights of my musical career,” says Jorma.  Few Christmas albums contain as many original songs as this one does. It is also the only time Kaukonen has performed keyboards on a recording.

“Who doesn’t love a Christmas record? Not many I suspect," says Jorma. “We had such a blast making this record. The comradery surrounding this project is what I remember the most...that and the side splitting laughter writing Christmas Rule.”  Only Jorma could make the holiday blues so appealing.  Jorma continues on, “Thanks so much to the folks at Culture Factory USA who specialize in quality reissues. Their projects are just so cool and we are happy that we found a home with them. Merry Christmas everyone!”  The digital release (downloads & all streaming platforms) is December 3, 2021.

In a career that has already spanned a half-century, guitarist and vocalist, Jorma Kaukonen has been one of the most highly respected interpreters of American roots music, blues, and Americana, and at the forefront of popular rock-and-roll. A member of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and a Grammy recipient, he is a founding member of two legendary bands, Jefferson Airplane and Hot Tuna, Jorma's band with partner, bassist Jack Casady. Jorma Kaukonen’s repertoire goes far beyond his involvement creating psychedelic rock; he is a legend and one of the finest singer-songwriters and master instrumentalist in music today. Jorma tours the world bringing his unique styling to old blues and writing new songs with an ever-flowing current of ideas.

For over 50 years Hot Tuna, Jorma Kaukonen and Jack Casady, has brought a wealth of emotions to their music through deep perceptions and tremendous talent.  They are always injecting fresh energy into their sound with constant improvisation taking their musical horizons further.  Come out for the music and the joy of life - Hot Tuna's on tour!

From their days playing together as teenagers in the Washington, DC area, through years of inventive psychedelic rock in San Francisco (1996 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductees), to their current acoustic and electric blues sound, no one has more consistently led American music for the last 50 years than Jorma Kaukonen and Jack Casady, the founders and continuing core members of Hot Tuna.

"Guitarist Jorma Kaukonen and bassist Jack Casady are without question in the discussion about who are among the greatest musicians; each has distinguished himself by developing a style that is easy to pick out and that others often try to imitate. But more importantly, Kaukonen, and Casady, have over time forged a partnership that’s as vital to their art as raw talent is. The duo use music to speak a language they seemingly invented, yet cannily allow the rest of us in on the  exhilarating dialogues.” -  The Art Fuse

In the latest issue of MOJO Magazine, Michael Simmons says  "[Jorma] the 80-year-old is an exemplar of the [60's] movement’s best ideals: an inquisitive open mind, a sense of justice, evolving creativity, irreverent wit."

Jack always adds musical excellence and understanding. As a feeling for a song grows within Jack it develops and deepens “It’s difficult to get it out precisely, that entity that is so hard to put into words… Music is the oddest art form," explains Jack.

Together Jorma and Jack have forged a way through the last five decades always expressing the emotions of the contemporary times.

Jorma Kaukonen's longtime partnership with Jack Casady as Hot Tuna displays their wisdom that to have a solid relationship is mind-expanding.

Get up, Get out! Jorma Kaukonen and John Hurlbut are releasing One More Life Time on Record Store Day!  Run to your nearest record store for this is a limited release of 500 vinyls exclusively for Record Store Day this Saturday, April 20.

"Being born in 1940, the first record I ever listened to was a 78 RPM album by Roy Rogers And the Sons of The Pioneers. In 1955, I got two more 78 RPM singles…  Rock Around the Clock by Bill Halley and His Comets and Earth Angel by the Penguins. Records were the lifeblood of my young life back then, and even though many formats have come and gone since then, my passion for vinyl remains.

To be a part of Record Store Day 4/20/24, where folks can actually go into a record shop and physically pick up One More Lifetime, the new record by John Hurlbut and myself is more than exciting… it is the stuff of dreams!" – Jorma Kaukonen, Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Inductee.
