Duane Betts

Duane Betts has released a new single from his full length solo album debut - Wild & Precious Life (July 14 / Royal Potato Family). “Saints to Sinners” captures a feeling of joy and triumph: guitar, slide guitar, piano, organ, crashing cymbals and percussion create a wall of sound, over which Betts meditates on the challenges of choosing the right path.

Today, Duane Betts releases the latest taste from his forthcoming album Wild & Precious Life with the epic, guitar driven “Stare At The Sun” featuring Derek Trucks.

Thursday, April 20th, was the first full day of music at the 2023 Skull & Roses Music Festival. Many in the crowd happily celebrated 4-20 in a smokey haze during the 12-hour musical marathon. The fact that cannabis is now legal in California made the occasion all the more celebratory. A strong wind picked up, clearing the sky of clouds, making for a warm afternoon and a crystal-clear evening.

Duane Betts’ debut solo album, Wild & Precious Life, brings a fresh perspective to southern rock with sharply-crafted songs and exquisite guitar work that capture the emotional release of overcoming struggle, appreciating the fleeting nature of life and the joys of being present. Recorded at Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks’ Swamp Raga Studio, it features guests including Trucks, Marcus King, and Nicki Bluhm. The album will be released July 14 on Royal Potato Family.

The Ogden Theatre is a 1600 capacity venue in the Capitol Hill district of Denver and although its surroundings leave much to be desired, the place still brings out the magic for those who enter its historic doors. Originally opened in 1917, it got it start as did many theaters of that era as a movie house and a locale for vaudeville performances. Cinema was its main draw for decades until its almost unfortunate end in the early 90’s, when it was slotted to be demolished.

The name Duane Betts is very familiar to anyone that is a fan of rock music and especially southern rock. He was born into the amalgam of two historic names in rock and roll. His father Dickey Betts and his band mate Duane Allman were pioneers of southern rock guitar driven music, namely the Allman Brothers Band. It’s not surprising that Duane Betts' early musical influences came from within his family. Betts has harnessed these influences and over the years created his very distinct writing and playing style.
